A healthy DJ Reader under contract, a solid OL with the majority of them on rookie deals, yeah maybe it makes sense. Where they're sitting though, I see an extra early draft pick or 2 plus $25M off the books as more value for this team, To put that a different way, I think Higgins is worth more to other teams than he is to the Bengals. If that's the case it makes sense to capitalize on it while they can.

A lot easier to find an extra WR than an OT or NT.

No reason they can't make it happen with the amount of cap space they're sitting on. They're not going to have Pro Bowlers at every position but they can at least avoid making draft picks out of desperation.

This is why I'd be OK with trading Higgins. Extra couple picks and $25M or so off the books gives them an opportunity to refresh the roster. WR is also one of the few positions where they've built some kind of depth. I don't think they've exactly got a replacement for him, but they don't need one. There are guys who have shown they can make plays when given the opportunity. Absolutely crucial offseason & I don't think they can afford to wait on FA until after the draft.

Think once again they've got to do both. Right now they don't have the roster depth for long term success.

You're assuming that by not spending the money on Higgins they will reinvest it on other players. Also the cap just went up, more than enough to cover his franchise tag. This means they are still top 5 in cap space. Do you think they're going to approach free agency like a team with $50-60m to spend, or do you think we're due another press release about how they did the math and actually need to borrow ohhhh about $3.50?
