i saw something like this is only the 17th stingray related death (edit: its in jamies article as well)

definitely a freak accident... but i still want to see the video
For a normal person, that would put the odds at around 35 Million to 1, but for Steve, I would have speculated at about 3 to 1.

No she is on a trek in Tasmania with locals. She has no cell service and she is on the top of a mountain and will not finish the trek until thursday. Which means she won't find out until thursday.

This is very sad.
He didn't do this for the money, he did it for the love he has for all animals. He wanted to teach us all about conservation and how important it is. Most of the money he made went to his conservation foundation...Wildlife Warriors Worldwide.
The Queensland police released a statement after veiwing the tape that he had not threatened or tried to touch the stingray at all. There was a camerman in front of it and Steve was above it...it felt threatened
and flexed it's barb up and it just happened to land in his chest.
It was a freak accident.
Yes, he was a daredevil but he made it fun for us all to learn about animals in the wild, the endandered species and that clearing land is taking their homes away from them.
I believe he was a wonderful father. I hope his children grow up to be the same as he was.
I hope his daughter Bindi will continue on with the new show she was going to be hosting, that's why he was there, to get footage for her show.

I guess God knew that he done the job that he was sent down to do and now he needed him for something else.
RIP Steve

i wasnt into rap that much then. i got into his stuff after he was already dead. I feel worse for Tupac becaue his life was takin away by another person intentionally and Irwins was because he put himself in a dangerous situation.

steve irwin was stabbed in the heart by a manta ray
tupac was shot

people get shot all the time, only 17 people have ever been killed by a ray... much less due to being stabbed in the heart

both u fuckers within seconds.

The point is...............Someone took Tupacs life and for Irwin, most people thought he would get killed sooner or later on the job because of the unpredicatability of dangerous wild animals. Im not going to get into the whole Tupac, east coast/west coast shit, but from what ive heard over the years from people, interviews, articles, VH1 shows about it, it seems as tho they made the East Coast/West Coast as more of a publicity stunt and then the fans took to it really bad and then certain people in the rap game got into it. Even if thats wrong. Tupacs life was taken by choice of another human which makes me sad and Irwins was something he knew every single day was a huge risk even when he started and when tupac first started rapping, his life wasnt in danger.

Because they both kept it gangsta and rumor was that the Croc Hunter had just signed to Death Row records a few days before the accident. I even read an internet rumor that the CIA had him killed because he was showing everybody not be afriad of dangerous animals and shit, the Croc Hunter was a real problem to the power structure.

Seriously though this Croc Hunter guy had it coming, common sense will tellu not to fuck with animals that will kill you if you give them the opportunity. He knew that he was putting his life at risk with every episode he made but that was his choice. It's sounds cold but it seems like natural selection to me, imo he's lucky to have lived as long as he did.

It's hard to have sympathy for someone to taunted death like he did, whether or not you found him entertaining it was a matter of time before did himself in by putting himself in a situation in which he could easily by killed by a wild animals whose natural instinct is to protect themselves.

Steve Irwin saved my life, says diver
By Peter Mitchell
September 06, 2006
AN American diver who owes his life to Steve Irwin says he was shattered to learn about the Crocodile Hunter's death.

"He saved my life," an emotional Scott Jones said today from his home in Iowa.

"I've lost a good friend."

Mr Jones was part of a tragic scuba diving expedition in the Sea of Cortez, off the coast of Mexico, in 2003.

Mr Jones' friend, 77-year-old Katie Vrooman, died during the dive after a sea surge knocked her twice against rocks. Mr Jones fought to hold on to her unconscious body for almost two hours and, while hanging off rocks and floating in the water, attempted to resuscitate her.

Eventually Mr Jones had to let Ms Vrooman's body go and he spent a harrowing night alone perched on rocks.

In a lucky twist of fate, Irwin and his film crew happened to be in the vicinity shooting a documentary and heard an SOS call on their radio that two divers had gone missing.

Irwin, who had never met Mr Jones or Mr Vrooman, decided he would abandon his film project to try to find them.

Mr Jones was precariously sitting on a rock outcrop dehydrated and scarred from being battered on the rocks.

Irwin, dressed in his khaki shorts and shirt, dived in the water and swam across to save Mr Jones.

At the time, Mr Jones did not realise Irwin was a celebrity.

The quietly-spoken Mr Jones said he had heard of Paul "Crocodile Dundee" Hogan, but not the Crocodile Hunter.

"After they got me on to the main boat, Steve helped me get my wetsuit off me and he went below to do something," Jones recalled.

"Somebody behind me said 'So what do you think of the Crocodile Hunter?'

"So I was looking around for Crocodile Dundee. I thought when the makeup comes off Dundee's looks must change.

"But, when I finally got home my daughter turned the Animal Planet channel on and I started watching his show from then.

"It was wild. He was jumping on crocodiles and things like that."

Jones and his wife Deborah sent flowers to Irwin's wife, Terri, and kids, Bindi and Bob.

They are also planning a trip to Australia to speak to his family.

"We'd love to go to Australia and tell his wife and kids just what a great man he is," Mr Jones, who declined to tell his age, adding it was a secret, said.

"He was a hell of an educator, from kids all the way up to old farts like me.

"He was a hero."

Mr Jones, an experienced diver, said he was surprised a stingray, "one of the most gentle creatures in the ocean" caused Irwin's death.
