Posted by: davidWith the Cincinnati Bengals having clinched the AFC North crown for the second time in five years, I think it's time to head off to Costco to buy a case of Sugar Frosted Crow Crispies and a dozen gallons of milk for all the "experts" who assured us that this outcome was absolutely impossible.

Why was that?

"[Cedric] Benson played well at the end of '08, but trusting him as the primary ball carrier is worrisome. The other options on the roster are either unproven or less than dynamic. Few teams are in such bad shape at running back. Consensus finish: 3rd.

Fox Sports: 8-8, 3rd in the division. Actually, they were about the closest.

SI? 3rd (and wrong) again.

Peter King? Ha-ha.

And a gem from The Sporting News: Bengals go 5-11 while the Pittsburgh Steelers finish 14-2.

In defense of the experts, they did really well. Having us at 7-9 or 8-8 was realistic. Let's just say for fun we spilt with Pittsburgh and Baltimore. We would be in the 8-7 boat. And they should have thrown a shout out to the guy who has been pimping us all season. Don't remember who....Pat Kirwan or something like that?

I had 9-7, looks like i may only be a game off. (and who knew 9-7 would get teams in this year)

You said this was not a Playoff team. And said they were a year or 2 away.
Today's Special is Crow, how would you like your's cooked?

I remember I had some asshat post the Jim Mora Playoff rant from You Tube

I don't think so. I think it was someone that hardly ever posts.

I remember I responded with a picture of Smokey (Chris Tucker from Friday)
telling him to write it down, take a picture, I don't give a FUCK!

Ummmm, this team isn't 9-7.

And they won their division.

No it isnt, its a 10-6 maybe 11-5 if they dont lay down (or 10-6 if they just get beat) I was one MAYBE two games off and in the AFC most years 9-7 doesnt get you in.

Of course you predicted they would have the division locked up leading to not playing their starters in wk 17, bringing them within one game of your prediction.. right?

Oh....

You have said that already. And you are acting like you were "so close"
to prediciting what really happened. You weren't.

Fact is, I had to watch you say over and over and over
(and did I mention over?), that this was not a Playoff team, all offseason.

Regardless what "usually" happens. Regardless how many games you say you
were off, you were wrong. Now eat it!

In fairness to you though Jamie, you weren't the only one. I just wish I would
have kept track of all the others. I just remember you because you said it so much.
Now eat it!!!

I love it. We havent decided one way or the other if we are laying down yet either.

And even if they do, two games off isnt bad. ;)

If your always a homer you will be right at some point...

If you are always a pessimist about your team you will be right at some point....

I think possibly being 1 game off the total with one game to go is a pretty good prediction...

*sigh*

It isn't about the win totals. The first link in the original post doesn't have
anyone prediciting wins at all. They had the Bengals finishing 3rd in the
division, which is basically what Jamie and a few other were doing all
offseason. I had to read it for months. At least they can do is admit
they were wrong for one fucking day.

Instead, you have Jamie not saying he was wrong, but saying I was
right and saying it with a backhand. Fuck him and all the other asshats.

Whether you believe it or not....

You CAN be a fan of a team without being a complete homer....
And you can be optimistic and hopeful about your team without
being a complete homer.

I am so sick of people throwing it around like a derogatory term.
Saying "blind", saying people are "wearing glasses".

I just prefer to stick my neck out and believe in the team.
It is a lot harder to be that way towards this team than it
is to be negative. Like I have said before, I would rather
be optimistic about this team and be proven wrong than
be negative and be proven right.

But hey, I always got to be right, right?

That's actually what pisses me off.. I'm not blind, stupid nor gullible. I predicted 11-5 this year, and thought we would win a wild card. People with a negative outlook want to label those who prefer a more positive outlook as "Homers".. Dismissing their input as if their opinion is somehow less valid due to some delusional fantasy.

I have been told I am a blind homer many times here, but in all reality, I have been right about the direction of this team since Marvin took over. I don't predict good things because I am stupid, or less "realistic".. It's because I see things I feel validate that opinion.

Does that mean my win/loss predictions are always right? NO, of course not. Just as in life, things don't always work out as it looks like they should.

That doesn't mean I need to start expecting that to avoid looking foolish.

I think that's what it really boils down to. There has been so much losing here that people are afraid to look gullible if they voice optimism for the team.

Me, I could give a shit what anyone thinks about my ability to analyze a football team.. I do this for fun, not validation.

How is this any different having to listen to people that think were going to the superbowl every year? The unrealisticness is just as annoying.

But fine I was wrong. Happy?

Wrong by one game. :on_the_quiet:
