Bengals considering Brandon Marshall?

The Broncos will not settle for less than a first-round pick in Brandon Marshall trade talks, according to the National Football Post.

"It's either an offer sheet or he plays in Denver next season," Michael Lombardi writes. The Broncos will not negotiate. Lombardi also expects the Seahawks to have competition for Marshall shortly, although he doesn't say which team would jump in. The Patriots, Falcons, and Bengals make sense.[/quote]

I would give our first for him. I think we would have to give a little more though. The Seahawks have 2 first and they are both higher picks. I hope we swing something to get him.

You wouldn't have to give more. Once he signs your offer sheet, other teams are out of the picture and the Broncos can decide to match or take your 1st round pick. They can't demand more at that point. At least that's my understanding.

Of course a trade could be worked out before Marshall signs an offer, but I believe once he signs there's only 1 choice for the Broncos to make... match or say goodbye.

I thought he had the first and third round tender and Denver was shopping him for a first. I was wrong.

Brandon Marshall and Chad would make up the best WR duo in the NFL. Aside from that both T.O. and Antonio Bryant would be big upgrades and improve the offense. The easiest fix to me is this scenario:

1. Sign T.O. or Bryant
2. Swing a trade for Chicago TE Greg Olsen who is available.
3. Focus on O-line in the draft

I don't believe this source at all. There are 3 reasons I don't think the Bengals will go after Marshall.

1) He will be EXPENSIVE to sign to a long term deal
2) He is a head case who challenges the authority of the coaches
3) He will cost at least a first round draft choice, and Mike Brown hoards them like gold.

We would be better off if we end up signing T.O., although with all the dropped passes he's had the last couple of years, he may end up reminding us of Coles...

i didnt realize shefter was on the mass mailing list the bengals send out on who they may be interested in going after.. :bengalscheer:

id say the list of teams not interested remotely in marshall is much shorter than the list who is...

great receiver.. tho some attitude issues off field issues and baggage...

the cost is likely high for his services.. he may be one oft he last guys out there unless someone overpays...

the broncos dont want him and everyone knows it..

he isnt geting any more expensive and teams arent beating down the door for him..

I'd do a First ONLY
At least its better than drafting someone and hope for the best, we KNOW what he can do and it would help us...and cost about the same money

Though Id rather have T.O. AND our 1st

i'd give them our 1st and 3rd for him since we have an extra 3rd round pick.

Is it official that we have 2 3rd round picks? Or is this based on a projected compensatory pick? Just curious...

Seahawks are in a better position to get him.

I think they're actually in a worse position. Their picks are too high and they likely don't want to give those up, yet there second round pick isn't enough for the Broncos. I think if Marshall signed an offer with them, they'd have to give up the 6th pick. If they wanted to give up the 14th, it would have to be through a trade which can make things more complicated.

I'll insert my input before we do the whole "we didn't need him anyway" thread.

I'd break the bank for Marshall. We need a wide receiver in the worst way, and instead of drafting one and hoping he develops, just trade for one that's already proven himself as an elite. It would be the perfect counter to Baltimore getting Anquan.

I'd trade whatever was needed to get him.

no it isn't. They aren't announced until the end of March at the league meetings.

well my fault, i really though for some reason someone posted that we are getting a 3rd compensatory pic.
