With Andy Dalton taken care of, the Bengals are moving on to other business.

The next in line is weakside linebacker, who has agreed to a multi-year extension with the team, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN. Adam Schefter says it’s a four-year, $20 million deal, with $7.6 million this year.

He was entering the final year of his contract, but would have been a restricted free agent next year.

While many were scared off of Burfict before the draft because of off-field concerns, the Bengals rolled the dice and found a consistent performer after signing him as an undrafted rookie in 2012.

Now he’s been rewarded, and they continue to lock up the core of a good, young team.

Vontaze Burfict gets 4 years, $20M

CINCINNATI -- The Bengals signed outside linebacker Vontaze Burfict to a four-year, $20 million contract extension Wednesday, league sources told ESPN's Adam Caplan and Adam Schefter.

The extension will pay Burfict $7.6 million this year, a source told Schefter.

Burfict was not at Bengals practice Wednesday due to what defensive coordinator Paul Guenther called a "stomach bug."

The linebacker, heralded as the unquestioned leader of the Bengals defense -- a unit that finished 2013 ranked third overall -- was due a contract extension with his rookie deal expiring at the end of this season.

Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State, Burfict was set to make about $570,000 this season.

As part of his Pro Bowl second season, Burfict led the league in tackles last season with 171. He becomes the second Bengal signed to a contract extension this month, joining quarterback Andy Dalton, who agreed to a six-year extension that will pay him up to $115 million.

ESPN.com Bengals reporter Coley Harvey contributed to this report.

I think its a great deal for both.  LB is an easy position to end your career or greatly diminish your NFL value with one play.

Taze has to take that deal before the season starts.  Dude hits crazy hard.

Good to hear Burfict got a new deal as it was a major priority this off-season and the Bengals had plenty of cap room. Sounds fair to him and the team and his performance on the field certainly warranted it. Much like Andre Smith, he will still be under 30 when his next deal comes around. Now lets just hope Burfict continues to be the leader and playmaker that this defense needs.
