happyrid Posted August 30, 2014 Report Share Posted August 30, 2014 Looking at our roster, I think we are one of the deepest teams in the league at most positions. Which means we probably won't be picking up any cuts from other teams. But there's still always a chance we could grab a player or two so worth keeping an eye on at least. Figured we should have a thread to discuss some options... A few I've noticed so far: 1. Terrelle Pryor, QB- Rich man's Josh Johnson (imo). Not sure Hue was still there when he was picked? Probably won't happen because Campbell is more experienced and probably a better fit. I do like Pryor as a backup because I think it's a real advantage having a backup who can make something happen with his legs and provide a different look from the starter. 2. Brandon Harris, CB- Recent 2nd rounder out of Miami, played for the Texans where Vance Joseph was his coach. No idea if Joseph likes him or not, but if we keep 6 corners I guess it's possible he could beat out Lewis-Harris who is suspended to start the year. 3. Greg Jones, FB- I assume we are set with Hewitt at FB, but it's possible we could look at a veteran and allow Hewitt to concentrate on TE full time. 4. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB- Wasn't a fan of keeping him at a $3M cap number. But on a non-guaranteed vet minimum contract signed after week 1, it's an okay option. Especially if Burkhead is out for a while. 3rd RB won't see many carries and BJGE is a great leader. 5. Mike Brewster, C- Young guy with some starting experience, played well at OSU. Possibly an upgrade to Trevor Robinson and insurance for Bodine? Robinson knows the system already though which is a huge advantage and you have to assume if the Jags cut him he isn't all that great. That's all I've got. No positions stand out as need areas with the possible exception of backup OL which is one where I think some of our guys struggled in preseason. Figure Pollak and Newhouse are locked in as backups. Hopkins would make it but for injury (I had heard he'd go on IR-Recall). Who knows about Svitek, Robinson and Hawkinson. Depending on his salary demands and his present health (he missed a good chunk of the season the past 2 yrs), I would think Pat Angerer would fit the bill. If claimed off of waivers...you are stuck with his contract. If clears waivers, old contract is void. Dennis Roland was cut. Please oh please bring him back. If he makes the squad I'll be scratching my head, because I'll wonder how you can give the guy a spot when he's had two years to start, you know, catching the ball -- and hasn't shown he can do it yet.
