looking to get a TV to put in the basement. Looked around the usual places, eBay, walmart, amazon, etc..

looking for:

55"-65" would prefer not to go under 60", but for a great deal, i can cope..

looking to spend $500-1100

I can get a solid LG or panasonic 60" for $779(panasonic) or $950(LG)..

I don't REALLY want to wait until black friday stuff, i won't be going to any black friday deals, and i fly out that day to go to florida for bengals game.. maybe its smart to wait until after black friday and sift through the leftovers...

Brands im willing to buy:

Samsung

Panasonic

LG

Sony

and really only looking for ultra thin models, LED, no plasma, nothing thicker than 2.5 inches...

any places to recommend looking? advice? deals? hookups?

This is right at the top of what you want to spend, but a pretty nice deal.

I bought the 50" of this tv and really like it..

The only  bad thing about it is only 3 hdmi ports.

the hdmi ports don't matter i run everything through a receiver and have 7.1 surround in the basement, so as long as it has 1 port.. I'm good..

book marked it, but i may fade away from it due to size.. pretty thick and heavy...but quite a bargain..

New Egg has this brand hongChong or something that I don't see other places. Its really cheap and the reviews are solid, for what they are worth. I don't know anything about the quality.

gonna have to stick to a brand i trust,, only have so much money, can't risk a dud...

Buy a TV that makes the commercials less loud than the show.  Buy a TV that makes the music scenes not 10000x louder than the dialogue.

Also, picture in picture is magisterial.

i have two TV's with that feature, unfortunately, i run everything through the receiver and surround sound, so the tv features is worth since the tv isn't whats playing the sound...

wonder if they make receivers that do that...

these two are the other two on the list:

65" ultra thin LED samsung LED - $1499

http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-60AS530U

and 60" Pansonic - $779

i need to create an equation factoring size, price and resolution but with % of max resolution used in time used of tv time total...

oh and factor in my broke ass-ness....

these bastards at Conns want to give me 24 months 0% interest on that samsung... which is the only reason its on the board at $1500

I have always been told that the best TV deals of the year are Black Friday and cyber Monday..

Do,you have your heart set on LED?

For the money plasma has a great picture and a lot cheaper

yes, led, plasma are thick, heavy and power hogs (by comparison) i rarely watch anything but netdlix or regular tv stuff.. so the benefits of plasma are mostly lost on me anyway...

So do you multiple devices into the receiver? Meaning hdmi?

A friend of mine has a Panasonic plasma, and it is neither thick not hot or power hungry. I was really impressed tbh...

they DO make some thin ones that are better than they used to be, and are 90% to the point of LED's, especially in weight.. i guess i shouldn't be as close minded.. i know there are some issues with altitude and them not lasting as long as well, but i don't think I'm quite high enough to be TOO concerned...

yes, direct, apple tv, xbox one, and blu ray player go into receiver via HDMI, one cdmi comes out, and goes into the tv..(with my handy in wall connections and cdmi cable run through the walls to behind where the tv hangs.)

Somewhere I still have a "plasma burn-in" dvd (the ISO actually).  It just fades between various colors very slowly.  Is this sort of thing even useful?  was it ever necessary?

It was needed on the early models, but burn in really isn't an issue on the new ones.
