Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin was fired this morning, following the team’s third straight loss on Sunday.

Philbin had been widely reported to be on the hot seat heading into Sunday’s game against the Jets. In that game, the Dolphins came out looking sluggish, like anything but a team inspired to play for its coach. And so it comes as no surprise that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross lowered the boom on Philbin today. The firing was first reported by the Sun-Sentinel.

Tight ends coach Dan Campbell is expected to serve as the interim coach of the Dolphins for the remainder of the 2015 season. It is unclear whether the rest of the coaching staff will remain to work under Campbell, but defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle may be fired as well.

Philbin has coached the Dolphins to a 1-3 record this year after going 7-9, 8-8 and 8-8 in his first three years with the team. That lack of progress has left Ross frustrated, and he finally decided to make a change.

This is the second straight year that an NFL team fired its head coach after a Week Four loss in London. The Raiders fired Dennis Allen at this time last year.
