|BlackJesus|
WEEK 1 POST-WIN THOUGHTS - by BlackJesus Game Balls (4): Andy Dalton, AJ Green, Brandon LaFell, Margus Hunt - First off, huge win! The Jets were clearly riding some of the 9/11 emotional hype to start the game and the Bengals withstood their charge without giving up too much of a lead. - It’s great to see Margus Hunt get a block on the FG (saved 3 points) and likely influenced the missed extra point as well, as the K was trying to aim it to the right away from his wingspan. The coaches made the right call to keep him on the roster as he also batted down a few balls on passes and I like his habit of dropping back and jumping on passing downs, it was clear that this unorthodox approach was bothering Fitz (always having a 6’8 guy shadowing you jumping up and down. Carlos Dunlap also had 2-3 tipped balls, one on the last big drive, and I think it shows how the Bengals emphasis on DL length and height can pay dividends. On passing downs when MJ, Dunlap, and Hunt (6’7, 6’6, 6’8) are in the game, it’s like an NBA front court to throw over. - AJ Green is the BEST WR in the game, bar none. He built a fucking luxury hotel on Revis Island and then gave out free rooms all day. Revis needs some cream on that toast for the burn. - Brandon LaFell is a strong #2 and likely will be better than either Sanu or Marvin Jones. Not overpaying for either of them was the right call, and again shows the strength of the Bengals roster management. I also like how Iloka and Shawn were laying wood and roaming in the secondary and after watching the Raiders get toasted all day by Drew Brees, it is clear that letting aging Reggie Nelson walk was the right call too. Really, the Bengals front office doesn’t make many mistakes anymore and that explains the playoffs 6 out of 7 years. - Dalton is one of the smartest QB’s in the game, and the NFL is starting to take notice. On NFL Prime on NFL Network AJ Green spoke about how on the long TD, Andy noticed the coverage and changed AJ Green’s route at the last second and told him where the opening would be. AJ said Andy does this all the time and that he always has a great grasp of what the defense is going to do and is responsible for the big plays because of this. Sure his arm may not be the best, but even Lafell said he is accurate and throws on time, and best of all, he has the mental aspect down that is needed to succeed. We can thus put all the AJ McCarron talk to bed … he is the backup until this offseason when he will be traded for a high draft pick and Andy won’t be losing his job to anyone. - Jeremy Hill looks slimmer and faster than years past, and on several runs he turned a 5 yard loss into a 4 yard gain. Also on the TD run, he showed good footwork and put 2 hands on the ball as he went in the end zone. I look for him to have a strong year and think the Bengals need to get back to him being the feature back so he can work up a rhythm and use Gio more for 3rd down and dump offs (where he excels). - The OL does need to improve on pass blocking and it’s hard to know how much of the sacks were a result of the Jets having the best DL in the NFL, but hopefully that will get cleaned up. And importantly, the sacks seemed to stop near the end of the game when it mattered most. - On the game winning Int and ensuing late hit, I liked seeing Michael Johnson (new team captain) run over to the sideline with Kirkpatrick and grab Shaw and pull him back onto the field … sort of as a way of saying, “we don’t need any extracurricular activities like in the past”. I also liked seeing Adam Jones yelling at the DB’s to cover better on that last drive when they let Brandon Marshall go right down the middle open (but dropped the ball). It’s clear PacMan is taking a leadership role as I saw him getting on lots of the DB’s when they weren’t doing their job and his play showed he is still a top 10 DB in the game. - It’s pretty damn impressive when you think how the Bengals team has been poached in the past several years of coordinators, players, etc and still it seems like they improve from year to year. That is because the one constant is Marvin Lewis. All the (real) BlackJesus haters need to give it a rest, and realize how lucky the team is to have him at the helm. - Get your vaccinations, because the Bengals are 1-0 and on to Shittsburgh (the land human decency forgot)! I can’t wait for some playoff revenge against these degenerate cheating low-life motherfuckers!

Hooky
Strong work as usual, BJ. My favorite description of Shittsburgh is God's Blind Spot.
|BlackJesus|
Addendum - I liked how Uzomah ran down the middle and to think he’s actually the 3rd TE. Once Eifert and Kroft are back at full speed the passing game will really open up. - And to think, the Bengals won yesterday without their BEST PLAYER and the HEART & SOUL of the entire team in Vontaze Burfict. Some of those gashing runs by Forte will get cleaned up once the junkyard dawg is back in there and rocking bitches. - Nugent still does concern me a little bit. Yes he hit the game winner in the clutch, but I still don’t trust him on anything over 42 yards or so generally … and I always want to almost cover my eyes when he kicks a FG. Not sure if there is a better replacement out there, but it is a little worrying. - I’m not sure I would have Pacman returning kicks or punts like yesterday until later in the year or in the playoffs. He is too valuable as a CB right now to risk to injury and got lit up a few times yesterday on returns. I can see putting him back there in a must win in December or in the playoffs, but not in September.

Dautcom08
Nice to see they still have the rushed FG attempt routine down pat just like last year against Seattle.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
jhowdy54
My favorite quote from Phil Simms was after the Iloka personal foul. "I know the slow motion replay doesnt show helmet to helmet contact, but in the end he hit him high and its going to get called everytime". Special teams was the difference yesterday. They have that quick FG down pat (no pun intended).

I usually save that one for Cleveland, but it also works for Shittsburgh. Both cities really are black holes of humanity that should be nuked and salted over. Rumble In the Jungle
Loved it BJ. I agree 100 on the Pacman returning kicks. During the game I was like why is he doing that? I get that he's good but I don't want to lose him at DB. Also agree on the Nugent thing. I have to close my eyes with any FG attempt with him. Glad he made the ones that mattered though.
