Let's talk about the 2017 Draft

What's our #1 biggest need? Who are the best fits in the first?

I have watched a ton of college football this year but haven't paid attention to any of the prospects. I'm assuming we end up picking the mid first round. I'd like a pass rusher in the first. End or LB.

Tim Williams seems a perfect fit. He is an explosive pass rushing LB in the mold of Khalil Mack. He needs work in run defense and pass coverage. He also has a recent arrest for illegal possession of a firearm.

I also like the other Alabama LB Reuben Foster to replace Maualuga or Dansby.

I'd kill for a decent SAM backer. I don't think we've had one since I've been watching this team. David started to come on before he broke his neck. Right end would be a nice get as well.

I really think we need a speedster for the X receiver. LaFell has been good, but I think this offense could go to the next level with one. Josh Gordon would be ideal from the redeemer standpoint.

Good to see you around. I was wondering if you were still on here not too long ago.

I've not been on much. Maybe once every few months.

After watching that first drive tonight on defense, we need to draft LB for every pick.

After today's loss and injuries, I'm guessing we end up in the top third (depends if they go full-freefall or they right the dinghy to some extent).  I consider picks in the first four (especially top three) rounds as premium picks. As of now, I'd say we may be looking  Our first four picks plus maybe third and fourth (or fifth) comp picks.  I'd love to see them squeeze another second out of someone for McCarron too.  Another move, though it might not be popular at all here) that I'd consider would be dealing Eifert if someone would give me a high enough pick (or in-kind talent).  My reasoning?  Love Eifert, but with his injury history, I'm gonna be leery about giving him big money on a second contract.  Not gonna cry at all if they keep him though even if they just get a high comp for him.

Targets (with 7 picks in the first four rounds - 1 1st, 2 2nd, 2 3rd & 2 4th)?  At least two front seven pick in the first two rounds (DE, OLB, DT - best available), a WR with the other, an OC & a DL in the 3rd, an OC & a RB in the fourth.  I'd also be looking at CB's, DT's, WR's, OL's & RB's in FA too.

And RT. And passrushing end

We wont draft a T any time soon, I think Ced will get another year to put on weight and get stronger, after that if he is still stinking it up then yes, also wont touch DE with Dunlap and Johnson under contract, even if I think Johnson is vastly over rated.

It seems likely we will pick in the top 10. Here's a top 10 ranking from CBS:

1. DT Jonathan Allen, Alabama

2. CB/S/LB/ETC Jabril Peppers, Michigan

3. DE Myles Garrett, Texas A&M

4. RB Leonard Fournette, LSU

5. CB Marlon Humphrey, Alabama

6. QB Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina

7. DT Malik McDowell, Michigan State

8. QB Deshaun Watson, Clemson

9. OT Cam Robinson, Auburn

10. WR Mike Williams, Clemson

Don't need a DT with Billings waiting in the wings. So eliminate Allen and McDowell.

No QB or RB most likely.

Peppers would be a good guy to plug in anywhere. He seems more like a safety to me. Can probably play nickel too.

Garrett would be perfect but probably won't last past the 3rd pick.

Corner would be disappointing given our complete lack of pass rush and just having drafting WJ3.

Drafting Robinson is pointless unless we fire Alexander. Offensive line definitely needs something. Ogbuehi already looks like a bust. Fisher is unknown. Whit isn't going to last forever and there's nobody on the roster I would trust at LT.

WR is certainly possible. Clearly we've struggled to find a #2. Williams is a monster.

Ogie is terrible.

Guys who fit the Bengals like a glove, especially given our needs, and should be on your list (and every one of them might be reachable, as I think we are guaranteed a top 5 and likely top 3 pick, so bear in mind that our picks will go that high in all rounds, and should be seen as such (i.e. 2nd round pick you use on 1st round talent that's fallen):

Round 1

DE: Myles Garrett (elite talent at a position of immense need)

DT: Jonathan Allen (maybe the best player in the draft at a position of immense need (he can do it all, but would provide us snaps all along the D-Line, and instantly stop the run as well as provide interior pass rush; Andrew Billings was a 4th round pick who showed nothing in camp, Hardison and Williams are more 3-techs, and neither can find the field anyway)

LB: Reuben Foster (can't miss banger with range and smarts), Zach Cunningham (may have the most upside of any LB in the draft); Tim Williams may be a bit more of a specialist rusher that we can no longer afford given our team-wide collapse, but I could see the argument with taking him if we don't get one of Garrett or Allen and we want to address pass rush in the first.

S: Jamal Adams (the guy I am so far least convinced belongs for us as a first round pick, even though the position is one of great need).

WR: Corey Davis (a true #1 receiver with outstanding speed, contested ball skills, agility/route running/acceleration, and YAC ability). Reminds of AJ Green. I'm dreaming we'd get him at #35 but I can envision trading back with a team looking for a QB in 1 or trading up to get the deep threat #1/2 WR that is an imperative for this team.

RB: Leonard Fournette (an elite runner); Dalvin Cook (will go in round 1 but I could see not being able to pass him up if he fell to 2).

OL: Of course the need is great, but I'll shoot myself if we take another OL in rd 1, especially if Alexander is still the OL coach (hell, I'll shoot myself if Alexander is the OL coach period).

And to keep it going:

Round 2

DE: Derek Barnett will never fall out of the first but I consider him a top 20 pick at a position of need.

DT: Vita Vea is worth a look; another 1-tech that can provide pass rush; I also like Jaleel Johnson, although he may be more of a top of the third guy for us

LB: Jarrad Davis, Florida; like Foster, he arrives angry and with a wallop.

WR: John Ross; some have him going as high as the first, and he may end up that way (and I'd consider him), but he doesn't have the size and all-around game that Davis does. That said, he's a legit KR so he's a guy I'd be happy with in later rd 1.

S: I haven't done my homework here yet.

RB: Dalvin Cook falling would be amazing. Alvin Kamara, love his game: Christian McCaffrey, may go lower than many think because of his slight build and lack of 3 down utility. I also love Booker from Utah, who I think might be a consideration now that Gio is going to be a question mark for PUP next season (of course, FINALLY getting an offensive coordinator that took better advantage of a pass receiving talent would be nice too).

OL: I still can't even stomach having to think about this disaster. Did I mention how badly I want Alexander gone?

I know things are subject to change between now and the end of April but as of right now guys with a good chance to be there and have value to the Bengals would be:

Marlon Humphrey CB Alabama - The Bengals love CBs, and the guy is long. And DQ and Adam haven't gotten it done this year and we don't know what we have in WJ3.

Leonard Fournette RB LSU - Would they do this with Hill on the roster? Could they trade Hill? In the end I doubt he would be the pick.

Cam Robinson OT Alabama - The O-line has been bad, but I don't think the Bengals are ready to give up on Obueghi. And IMO the greater need is at G and C.

Malik McDowell DL MSU - Can play inside or out. Would they consider him at LDE and Carlos at RDE?

Mike Williams WR Clemson - A big body. I haven't watched Clemson so I have no idea how fast he is, but at 6'3" 220 I doubt he is the burner I prefer, but it gives them another big body red zone threat.

Honestly I'd love to trade up or down for either Garrett or Ross, respectively.

Other guys I like at later points in the draft:

TJ Watt.  He has impressed me every time I watched Wisky.  He's probably more natural as a 3-4 OLB, but I think he could be a SAM in a 4-3.

Either Pocic or Elflein in 2 or 3 to replace Bodine.

If we don't get a DE in 1, Taco Charlton in 2 is a guy I'd look at.

Daniel Carlson K, Auburn, at the top of 4 would make me happy.

Not sure he fits their mold, but Zach Banner the RT/OG from USC could be an earth mover at RG or RT in 3 or 4.

Ced is so bad at RT and Whit likely only playing another year, we almost have to go back to the well and try again at T. There is no way our offense improves until we address RT. If, and it is a big if, there is a new HC he would be a fool to not consider replacing Ced with the best T available in the draft.

I'd like to see Fisher get some snaps at right tackle. I thought that fit his skill set better coming out. He can't be any worse than Ced.

6. Cincinnati Bengals

Reuben Foster , LB, Alabama: There could be plenty of shakeups in Cincinnati Bearcats (?) following a disappointing 2016 season and adding explosiveness and enthusiasm at linebacker could be among them. Foster possesses the athleticism and awareness in coverage to play outside and is arguably the most feared hitter in college football.

I would love this

Can he cover a TE or Speedy RB on 3rd and 2? Becuase if he can't it's a terrible pick.
