INJURIES
CIN: LT Levi Jones (knee) has been practicing off and on this week, is questionable, and is probably a game-time decision. C Rich Braham (knee) is most likely going to miss his 13th straight game. Linebacker Andre Frazier (hamstring) missed the first two practices of the week and is questionable. QB Carson Palmer (throwing shoulder) missed practice Wednesday but worked Thursday and Friday and is probable.
DEN: The Broncos have listed all key players as probable and RT Adam Meadows (hamstring) could play again after missing a few games.

THE SERIES
Broncos lead, 15-8, 10-2 in Denver, 0-0 at INVESCO.

NOTEWORTHY
The Bengals haven’t won in Denver since Paul Brown was coach in 1975. They are 0-7 there since under five different coaches. Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway had a hand in all seven games ranging from 1983-97 … The Broncos always seem to play a significant role in Bengals history. Cincinnati’s first win ever came against Denver in 1968 at Nippert Stadium. Four Bengals coaches made their debut against Denver: Bill Johnson in 1976 (a 17-7 win at home), Homer Rice in 1979 (a 10-0 loss in his first full season), Sam Wyche in 1984 (a 20-17 loss in Denver), and Marvin Lewis in 2003 (a 30-10 loss at home) … The Bengals’ Corey Dillon set the NFL’s all-time single-game rushing record with 278 yards against the Broncos Oct. 22, 2000 on just 22 carries … In their first home Monday night game in 15 years, the Bengals beat the Broncos, 23-10, in 2004 … For the sixth time under Lewis the Bengals play at a new site. They are 3-2 with wins at Washington, Philadelphia and Detroit, and losses at New England and Tampa Bay … The Bengals take, essentially, two former first-round picks of the Broncos in linebackers coach Ricky Hunley (1984) and cornerback Deltha O’Neal (2000). The Bengals traded Hunley’s rights to Denver … When the Bengals played Monday night in front of 57,292 in the RCA Dome in Indy, it marked the first time in 50 straight games the Bengals played in a house fewer than 60,000 … The Bengals are 2-2 on Christmas Eve … The Broncos are 3-3, 1-1 in Wild Card games on that day.

NFL RANKINGS
CIN: Seventh in scoring, seventh in offense (22nd rushing, fifth passing), 29th in defense (13th rushing, 32nd passing), seventh in turnover differential; DEN: Tied for 17th in scoring, 21st in offense, (sixth rushing, 25th passing), 13th in defense (12nd in rushing, 22nd passing); tied for 17th in turnover differential.

COACHES
CIN: Marvin Lewis 35-27 (0-1 postseason) in his fourth season; DEN: Mike Shanahan 130-73 in his 12th season, 138-85 overall in 14 seasons.

THE WEATHER
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio is calling for partly cloudy skies in Denver, no chance of snow, and a game-time temperature of 35 degrees with a south west to west wind at about five miles per hour.

Bengals looking for a little help
By GEOFF HOBSON
December 24, 2006

2:50 p.m. DENVER _ The Bengals arrived a Mile High looking for a little help from a variety of sources in Sunday’s AFC playoff showdown here with the Broncos.

While they kept one eye on games going on in Buffalo and Jacksonville, the Bengals unveiled a starting lineup that again featured rookies Johnathan Joseph and Andrew Whitworth at left cornerback and left tackle, respectively.

The Bengals needed a better performance from their offensive line and secondary than those displayed in Monday night’s loss in Indianapolis if they wanted to take command in the chase for a Wild Card spot against a Denver team staring at the exact same 8-6 scenario.

Joseph again lined up in place of Deltha O’Neal, the former Bronco beaten for two touchdowns Monday night in his first game back in a month. Although Levi Jones dressed for the second straight week since undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery two months, Whitworth got his 10th straight start. He’s coming off the worst outing of the season, although he wasn’t at fault for all of Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney’s three sacks.

In order for the Bengals to clinch a Wild Card Sunday and make next week’s regular-season finale at home against the stealers moot, they had to beat Denver, the Patriots had to beat Jacksonville (or the Dolphins have to beat the visiting Jets Monday night) while the Titans had to beat the Bills.

So far, so good. The Pats and Titans had halftime leads.
Hobson updated it already. This is what he added...
Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis had no major surprises on his inactive list. Defensive tackle Shaun Smith, who sat down for the first time this season Monday night, again got replaced by defensive end Johnathan Fanene. In his second game of the year Monday night, one of Fanene’s three tackles went for a three-yard loss of running back Dominic Rhodes. With special teams performer Andre Frazier and his 13 tackles down with muscle problems, rookie middle linebacker Ahmad Brooks dressed for the first time in two games.

Also down were rookies Skyler Green at wide receiver, John Busing at safety and A.J. Nicholson at linebacker, as well as centers Rich Braham and Ben Wilkerson.
