The Bengals on Monday added a college free agent to the offseason roster, signing running back Dan Burks of Alabama-Birmingham to a one-year contract.

Burks finished his UAB career as the school’s No. 2 all-time rusher with 2,277 yards. His best single-season effort came in his sophomore year when he gained 880 yards and earned third-team all-conference honors.

He battled through injuries his final two seasons at UAB, and in his senior season saw action in nine games, with seven starts, posting a team-leading 432 yards rushing on 108 carries.[/quote]

2005: Played in eight games during season as he battled late-season injury ... started four contests during campaign (Tennesseee, Rice, SMU and Marshall) ... rushed for a season-best 115 yards on 18 carries in one-point defeat at Marshall ... had a season-long 24-yard scamper vs. the Thundering Herd ... also ran for 78 yards on only 12 rushes with a pair of touchdowns against Rice ... because of injuries, his total of carries decreased to 67 during season with 321 yards and four touchdowns ... also had 55 yards vs. Jacksonville State.

2004: Finished excellent season for the Blazers as he totaled 880 yards with four rushing touchdowns … averaged 5.4 yards per carry ... earned third-team All-Conference USA recognition … split time with fellow RB Corey White … had a pair of games with more than 100 yards rushing (146 vs. Memphis and 110 vs. Army) … tallied 55 yards rushing and scored one TD in Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl ... also caught 15 passes for 160 yards … had a long rush of 69 yards in season opener against Baylor.

2003: Limited in preseason because of hamstring problems but played in season opener at Baylor, catching four-yard touchdown pass from Darrell Hackney … played in first three games of season before shoulder injury sidelined him for remainder of campaign … carried 23 times for 90 yards … had a long run of 17 yards vs. Troy State … was able to gain medical redshirt.

2002: Finished the season as UAB’s top rusher with 534 yards on 124 attempts … he amassed 400 of his yards on 90 carries in the last half of the season … averaged 66.6 yards in the final six games of the season … gained better than 80 yards in three contests (96 vs. Memphis, 92 vs. Tulane and 80 vs. Cincinnati) … played in all 12 games and made two starts (Tulane and Cincinnati) during season ... started two games during season … had long run of 23 yards in victory over East Carolina … caught five passes for 40 yards … also saw action as kick returner with eight returns for 21.4 average and long of 37 yards.

He's going to have a good run in camp and there will be a DeDe Dorsey talks all over again. People wanting Chris Perry's head and this guy as our kick returner or something. I've learned from the past you should hardly get excited over these types of guys.

There are too many people ahead of him, and even if he wanted to be a fullback, we don't usually carry a backup fullback on the roster.

This guy is DOA Bengal wise. But hey, someone can pluck him and have him on their squad.

Not to mention he'd be the 3rd FB. Stan White from OSU was picked up as well, if I remember right....
