MIdnight came and went Friday without tight end Ben Utecht and his agent hearing from the Colts.

Indianapolis had until then to match the Bengals' three-year, $9 million offer, so the belief is the club didn't and that he is now Cincinnati property. No one is going to make it official until Saturday.

"He is really excited to join the team and make contributions to help make the Bengals a Super Bowl contender," agent Chris Murray said in a 12:11 a.m. text message.

The Colts were aparently still mulling it over all week. Utecht spoke with head coach Tony Dungy and quarterback Peyton Manning, but couldn't get a sense for a decision.

With 68 catches over the past two seasons, the 6-6, 250-pound Utecht would give the Bengals' their most prolific pass catching tight end since Tony McGee caught 52 balls for Bruce Coslet and Dick LeBeau in 2000.

It could also change how the Bengals use their roster as they come out of training camp. For the last several years under Marvin Lewis they have gone with two tight ends instead of three, anchored by the blocking of starter Reggie Kelly. The other tight ends are Dan Coats, who played a lot as a rookie last season, and Nate Lawrie, who played in three games last year with two starts.

Maybe that's one of the reasons that we signed him. We start to run off the bad karma by bring in some good.
Did you do his cards?

Huh? You lost me here.

What he's saying is that Utecht is a SuperBowl magnet...he's won one with Manning, now he's going to win one with Carson, and after that he'll go get one with Brady...
Beautiful ! Hold on to those draft picks. No loss of compensatory picks either.Big win for the Bengals.
Use some of the picks to move up the draft to #3 or #5. If that happens, we will get our big time defensive lineman, and we will beat Cleveland twice to take the AFCN Division Championship!

Hurray! :P

Moving up to 3 is bit of reach.Chiefs at 5 would be the best trading partners for bengals. They need serious upgrade at OL but clady would be a reach there and J.Long would be gone by then.We should throw in our 3rd rounder and I think that should do it to get one of 2 DTs.

Btw welcome to the Jungle Ben B)
