BALTIMORE _ After returning him to practice Monday, the Bengals decided to replace right end Antwan Odom with Frostee Rucker in the starting lineup for Sunday's opener against the Ravens.

In an effort to load up against the Ravens running game, the Bengals opted to dress seven defensive linemen and just eight defensive backs. Rookie safety Corey Lynch didn't dress and safety Chinedum Ndukwe is still nursing a knee injury.

Also down for the Bengals were injured rookies Andre Caldwell and Pat Sims, as well as newly acquired offensive lineman Frank Davis. Rookie defensive tackle Jason Shirley also was shelved in favor of Orien Harris, picked up on waivers earlier in the week.
THE SERIES
Ravens lead, 13-11, 8-4 in Baltimore, 7-3 at M&T.

NOTEWORTHY
For the first time in 10 years the Bengals play a Ravens team not coached by Brian Billick. Billick went 10-8 vs. the Bengals, but 1-6 in the last seven games ... Former Bengals right tackle Willie Anderson agreed to terms with the Ravens on Thursday after playing in 22 games against them. During his first 11 seasons he missed two games and one was against the Ravens in 1999 ... In the last game in Baltimore, Shayne Graham set a club record with seven field goals for all the points in the Bengals 21-7 victory. He needs to hit 15 straight to become the most accurate kicker of all time ... In the eight seasons the Bengals have gone to the playoffs, they've won the opener seven times (only loss in 73, 28-10, at Denver) ... Sunday is the 100th anniversary of Paul Brown's birth. As coach of the Bengals, he was 1-1 in Baltimore, winning 24-14, in 1974, and losing a 1970 AFC playoff game, 17-0.

NFL RANKINGS (2007)
CIN: 11th in scoring, 10th in offense (24th rushing, seventh passing), 27th in defense, (21st rushing, 26th passing), tied for eighth in turnover margin at plus 13; BAL: 24th in scoring, 22nd in offense (16th rushing, 23rd passing), sixth in defense (second in rushing, 20th in passing), 32nd in turnover margin at minus 17.

COACHES
CIN: Marvin Lewis 42-38 (0-1 postseason) in his sixth season; BAL: John Harbaugh making his head coaching debut.

THE WEATHER
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio is calling for game time temperatures in Baltimore in the mid 80s with a high of 86 degrees and a 10 mile-per-hour wind out of the northwest on a mostly cloudy day. The remnants of Hurricane Hanna are supposed to hit Saturday and Saturday night with gusts reaching 40 miles per hour, but it is supposed to be cleared out by game time.

Rucker starts

BALTIMORE _ After returning him to practice Monday, the Bengals decided to replace right end Antwan Odom with Frostee Rucker in the starting lineup for Sunday's opener against the Ravens for Rucker's first NFL start.

Former Bengals right tackle Willie Anderson, who was not active, has been assigned No. 79 in a Deep Purple irony. That's the number of Stacy Andrews, the man that replaced him in Cincinnati. No. 71 wasn't available since it's being worn by the Ravens starting left tackle, Jared Gaither.

Bengals inactives

UPDATED: 11:43 a.m.

BALTIMORE -- No real surprises in the list of Bengals inactive players for the game. Jordan Palmer is the third quarterback. Inactive are safety Chinedum Ndukwe (knee), safety Corey Lynch, offensive lineman Frank Davis, rookie receiver Andre Caldwell (foot), rookie defensive tackle Pat Sims (toe) and rookie defensive tackle Jason Shirley.

Linebacker Keith Rivers' number has changed from 58 to 55, which he wore at Southern Cal.

The former Chad Johnson's surname has changed to Ocho Cinco.

Changes in listed starting lineup:

Daniel Coats will start at fullback in place of Jeremi Johnson, who was placed on injured reserve this past week with a knee injury.

And Frostee Rucker will start at right defensive end ahead of Antwan Odom, but Odom is active.

For the Ravens, right tackle Willie Anderson will not play; he is inactive. Other Ravens inactives: corn erback Evan Oglesby, linebacker Tavaras Gooden, tackle Oniel Cousins, offensive lineman David Hale, wide receiver Marcus Smith and wide receiver Demetrius Williams.

In a bit of a surprise, Ravens safety Ed Reed (neck) was active.

so is odom just not starting, or not even dressing?
He doesn't appear to be on the inactives list, so I assume he's just not starting...

Anyone think his weight issues had anything to do with Jeremi injuring his knee? I'm not sure if I've read anything about this...
