WDR Invades Georgetown

As Brosef Stalin previously posted, Project Mayhem Task #9 was unveiled today in Georgetown, Kentucky at Bengals Training Camp. Around 10:10 am, a plane hauling a sign saying: "I CAN SEE ONLY 1 SCOUT FROM HERE!" flew across the entire Bengals facility on the Georgetown College campus, circling for over 45 minutes. The plane was impossible to miss, as fans, players, and even Bengals management all stopped to take notice. About 1,500 fans were in attendance, and the reactions varied from "Those are probably Browns fans ragging on us" to "Those Who Dey Revolution guys are at it again, that's awesome". As a devoted comrade to the revolution, I did my best to educate the folks that were in disbelief that the Bengals could only have one full time scout (they do, it's true).

In fact, it seems like we really got to the Bengals brass.

We received reports while the plane was in the air that the Bengals alerted Georgetown, KY police...who then called the Scott County Airport to ask them if a plane took off from their airport with a message in tow.

Minutes later, someone identifying themselves as the 'Head of Bengals Security" called the Lexington Tower to get the plane number and contact the pilot. This person then told the pilot "I'm going to be nice about this just once, but we have 1,500 people here and I would appreciate it if you didn't fly over the stadium. We want you to stay at least three miles away from the stadium. If you don't, I will have to file a TFR (temporary flight restriction)."

Looks like the Bengals got fired up over a little plane. Too bad they are more upset about this than a three-touchdown loss to the Steelers twice a year.

Basically, the Bengals want to shut down a small plane that has a completely benign message and infringe upon free speech. I'd love to see the just cause to satisfy the requirements for a TFR.

DO NOT let the Bengals win this fight. Help us keep the planes in the air by donating $19 (one for every year of Mike Brown's reign). The link to donate is the PayPal link on the top left of the page. The entire nation will hear our story with Hard Knocks in attendance, and the world needs to hear our cries for a General Manager and competent scouting department.

People are allowed to have their own opinions on the franchise. End of story.

its just a stupid way to do it, and a waste of money. You want to make a statement, sure, but do you really think some silly plane is going to change the mind of a fan who drove 2 hours to watch their favorite team? Those fans aren't getting swayed (and yes, this was more likely to try and get on Hard Knocks).

It's sad that with the economy as shitty as it is, people like this are so frivolous with cash that could be used for good. Moreover, they are trying to convince others to finance it.

Props...

I am honestly suprised they lasted this long....

I am sure MB did not like it.

...but like I said before, this is the best offseason for the Bengals that I can remember. There is only one thing I would have done differently and the effect would have only been marginal anyways....so props to MB as well.

big bad faggy website acting like they are proving a point over a ryan fitzpatrick season..

why would there be any scouts at camp? we already have these players...

none of it makes sense.. and its not even comical..

ill laugh if something is funny... its not..

are there really this many people in some fictional made up on their own head false reality that think this all makes sense?

just donate $19 and ill keep spending your money... some of it on a plane flying over...

the rest on a Jag.

so he isnt paying for the flight.. he paid for the message..... if more than 20-25 people are donating $19 he is pocketing a whooole lot of loot.... you know aside from the donations he takes all year round...

I agree with this. They should be allowed to fly the plane with the banner, the airspace over Georgetown isn't restricted, and they are practicing their right to free speech.

However...as Go points out, it's pretty lame and stupid. Why would there be scouts at training camp? These players are already on the team! It's the coaches job to evaluate the guys from this point on and decide whether they get jobs or not.

I don't think that is the point. I don't think they were trying to say they see "only one scout" actually at training camp. It was meant more as an overall sarcastic remark pointing out the lack of scouts in the organization.

Who said people aren't allowed to have their own opinions?

Am I not allowed to have an opinion of people?

And it isn't the end of story. These d-bags are flying a plane over the
team's Training Camp in hopes of being on Hard Knocks and getting
more attention and dumbasses to send them money.

1. Out of all of the pictures posted of people, I count 8 total people who might possibly be looking at a plane. The other 100+ are all watching activities at ground level.

2. Of the 8, it sure looks like three dudes in the first picture are WDR guys.

3. It's a lame message. Any message that requires explanation is poorly thought out.

4. This guy writes about the Bengals attempt to track down the pilot as some indication that WDR rocks, and successfully has incensed the Bengals. To me, it reads like a very real safety hazard to 1500 spectators on the part of the pilot... Do we have any pilots on the boards who can educate us on the righteousness of flying over a crowd for 45-ish minutes without permission/permit? I can't imagine it's acceptable.

5. I really do get the sense this guy is preying on disgruntled fans with his various "send me money" actions.

Even if people are looking at the plane it is still not a sign that they agree with the message.

I agree. My point was merely that all of these pictures get posted, seemingly as proof of how much they shook things up at Georgetown, yet most of the pictures don't even show people looking up.

To be fair, your thread title says that you'd like to punch them in the throat for having their opinion. I don't think Comment is running out to an ATM to grab $19. I think he's just not taking them very seriously.

This is the single greatest draft this team has ever had and they chose to push the scout message, ...not smart!
Based on what? These players haven't even played a game and you're calling it the greatest draft this team has every had? Hell, we don't even have our first rounder signed yet, good luck keeping Carson Palmer upright next season when Suggs, Harrison and Wimbley are coming at him.

Get real, I give kudos to WDR. The Bengals have been the worst team in pro sports since Mike Brown took over. They have amassed the worst winning percentage out of every single team in the big four sports in North America. They are getting their message across that they aren't happy with the way things are run and a couple of free agent signings don't change that. Also, Michael Johnson and Rey Maualuga were touted as first round talents and they fell to the second and third round respectively. I don't think you even need to hire a scout in order to know that you have to pick them at those spots, or maybe that one scout didn't know what 31 other teams knew when they passed up on those players.

It's safe to say that the "one scout" has been a joke and a main reason why we've been so bad for so long. I highly doubt that one scout can effectively scout college players as well as give us great reports on the Steelers, Browns and Ravens come game time.

Mike Brown will always be a cheap loser, he's an embarrassment to his father and personally, I cannot wait until he finally leaves the Bengals and Katie hires a football man to run the team.

I stand by my words. This is the greatest draft we've ever had.

Also, WDR has made themselves irrelevant with this message. It was a stupid choice and the GM argument would have been better.

I think you answer your own question there. Yes, we won't know how great a draft class 2009 will be for a few years. However, even you acknowledge we grabbed three guys who were touted as first round talent. It's totally not laughable for someone to be excited by that.

According to Rey...the Bengals never contacted him before the draft. No private workouts. No interviews.

Can the scouts really get credit if he turns out to be pro-bowl caliber?
Zimmer was our scout on that guy and it was a public workout.
