Why stop being snide now?

How in the fuck does them having an upgrade on the roster equate to them being the problem
with the passing game struggles? And how does them expecting a unit that had little experience
together, and in some cases, NFL experience period equate to that? Seriously. How does that
even make sense? You are talking about the future. Them getting better. That should be a given.
I was talking about last season. And how they didn't make any moves that wasn't already on
last year's roster to the "shitty" O-line.

Do YOU get it now?

Or are you going to call me obtuse again? lol

I said "being obtuse" meaning it was intentional that you were ignoring the meaning of the post.. Not that you were stupid.. I can see you didn't get my meaning with that, and I apologize for any offense.

I don't understand why you are confused, and why you seem to be getting so upset...

It's simple... The line wasn't very good at pass protection last season... They also have a first round pick from last year that didn't get to take over RT as they had planned. I believe the coached didn't sign or draft any replacements because the expect Andre to take over RT (an upgrade over last season) and they expect Cook and Mathis/Livings to get better (= getting better at C and LG).

Like I said, I think we mostly agree.. The only difference is that I think the line play from last year wasn't that great (especially in pass pro) and I don't think lack of drafting/signing new starters is not an argument against that belief.

Can we keep the argument civil please?

No hair up my ass, although I can say I've ever actually gotten a mirror out and looked up there so I could be wrong.
My problem is your insistence that Willie is somehow an upgrade over a player that started, and yes rotated out, on a playoff team.
Find somebody better to pimp as a replacement and I might get on your side of the argument.

oh, the misunderstandings that evolve on this board.

i thought i mentioned something along the lines of letting the offensive line coach make that decision. and yeah, personally i think he'd be a possibility
that could work.

and you brought that eva shot on yourself with that condescending attitude and suggestions of women football classes. i don't need that bullshit from you. you get what you give.

works for me big willie. i'm running a one man promotional campaign for you, and getting my head kicked in for it. after all the good years, it's hard for me to believe. i'd bet the staff still thinks much higher of you than some of these fans do. some fans are fickle that way. maybe you can take solace in that, big guy.

thanks. still pretty hasty on Willie's part. Your average fan doesn't know there's an active and inactive list. Most probably don't even know what the PUP list is. He as a player knows, and could have clarified it as "active". But I guess he got more attention this way.

Yeah..because the line was so good last year with that All pro tackle Whit on the blind side..It's a wonder we could never throw the ball!!!

Actually let me reword this. I do not believe Whitworth is a "franchise" left tackle..no matter what Carson says. He is a good left tackle but leaves a lot to be desired. He gives reach-arounds more often than a "franchise" left tackle should. The whole line was terrible at pass blocking last year.

And they were thinking about moving Whit to right tackle a year or two ago..so how is it fucking mornonic? Because he is the best player on old or undrafted free agent line?

Wasn't Whit only charged with one sack last year? In a year that we played the Ravens and Stealers twice, the Vikings, and the Jets? 1 sack in those 6 games would have been asking alot. He is better than alot of people give him credit for being.

I obviously know that. I was just joshing around, no offense intended.

I despair at Bengals fans arguing about bringing Willie Anderson here. He has the same issues Andre Smith has (being out of shape and lazy) in addition to Willie being old and done for. There's no wellspring of hope in that tank. He's finished and he knows it.

back strain I think.

Active PUP isn't really anything. Just saves a roster spot. All it means is he hasn't practiced yet. He could practice tomorrow morning if he wanted.

damn, bro...let it go. willie was gonna break this news (IN HOPES OF INFORMING CONCERNED BENGAL FANS) at the time he broke the signing of TO, but didn't want to bum everyone out, so he waited. there's no conspiracy going on, here, just a guy with connections trying to share news with the many fans that once cheered him on everyday. no more, no less.

yea, that's why he did the whole "BigWIllieTV" stuff. You think Chad and TO are the only players who want attention?

Willie's a bright guy. He posted something that he knew would get people's attention and cause concern. While what he stated was true, it also wasn't accurate, and he's someone who knows the difference between Active PUP and inactive PUP.

Willie wants attention. If he didn't, he would have let the team report it. Instead, he wanted the scoop and led a lot of fans to believe that a player was going to be out for 3 months when in reality, he'll be back much sooner.

well think about it. You say he's trying to help the fans. How? How is it better that he did it rather than the team? Only difference? It got Willie attention.

I know you have a soft spot for Willie, but is it possible you're seeing what you want to see, just how you claim others are apologists for Mike?

Bengals offered him a deal that would have kept him on the team to teach Stacey while allowing them to build for the future. Willie refused then took less money from a division rival and mentored their young guys. Who disrespected who there?

Willie was a great tackle. One of my favorites. He acted like a bitch when he left and I think he comes across a little bitter through his tweets or quotes. Just the way I read it. But that is often the deal with fans and the players. That said I'd still like to see him join the bengals if can still play. I'm just not sure that's really the deal there.

people makes mistakes. i'd bet one on one, willie would say he made one. you have to move on. you can't judge someone by one event in their life. i'm cool with willie.

IMO willie was playing "mr. newsbreaker" no more, no less.

no big deal, we just see this differently.

So the pissing match over Big Willie aside, is the general feel that Andre's is on PUP because it's not healed or it's because he once again isn't working hard and thus the foot is not in great shape?

the impression I get from reading peter kings comments from his talk with Marvin, its more about conditioning than his foot.

Before this year I've never heard a player failing a conditioning test be reported, and I'm certain Jeremi would have failed last year (and he didn't practice right away, but they never reported a conditioning test fail). So I'm guessing Andre didn't pass, or wasn't even close enough to test and the Bengals, like they did with Jeremi, just aren't pronouncing it to the world.

So I think there's 3 factors playing a part:

1) foot isn't quite 100%

2) his conditioning is an issue because he's been staying off the foot

3) He's making a boatload and slotted to start so they aren't going to rush him and risk re-injuring it.

The supposed plan is to have him back by the last two preseason games. If that happens, everything will be fine IMO.

Per Peter King's twitter:

"Marvin Lewis not happy with rehab that jillionaire OT Andre Smith did in off-season. Ought to be fully rehabbed from foot injury. He's not."

http://twitter.com/S...tus/19850421425

I interpret that as Marvin placing the blame squarely on Andre.

He's Jeremi 2.0

A fat ass that needs to get into fucking shape. They don't want him running around on a healing foot while he's 30 pounds overweight (<-- pulled that # out of my ass)

Or at least that's my take.
"Whitworth is the best tackle in football, AFC or NFC, and the fact that he's not on it (the Pro Bowl roster) is a joke." - Carson Palmer

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation, and then by deflation, the banks and the corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their father's conquered ... I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies ... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the Government, to whom it properly belongs." -Thomas Jefferson - January, 1815

“Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.”—Mark Twain, Chronicle of Young Satan

thanks. still pretty hasty on Willie's part. Your average fan doesn't know there's an active and inactive list. Most probably don't even know what the PUP list is. He as a player knows, and could have clarified it as "active". But I guess he got more attention this way.

lol

pathetic.

Mike Brown himself could post something on his twitter account, or on the Bengals home page, but if it didn't come from Marvin Lewis himself, 1181 would have doubts. I've never seen anything like it. It's comical.

That's how I'm seeing it too. If he proves us wrong, then awesome. If he's having other issues besides his weight that is keeping his foot from healing then I say oh well, We need this guy to represent. I hope he realizes that.

I think it may be more stamina than weight. But that's just speculation based on recent pictures.

just caught this in an ESPN article:

Quote

... OT Andre Smith, the team's first-round pick last year, will concentrate on conditioning the first few weeks of camp. Smith broke his left foot last Sept. 1, limiting him to six games, and had offseason surgery.

from the same espn article

CB Leon Hall did conditioning instead of participating in practice. Hall said he slightly hurt his lower back during a recent workout.

In the glimpse I caught of Andre on the NFL network video..he looked just as big as he did when he signed last year. He looked HUGE. A lot bigger than when Solomon took a tour not long ago.
