Ahhhh....bunch of crap.   chubb is a beast and THE  strongest RB in football.   Everyone and their mother takes out such an RB legs like that  or risk being trucked.

Fitzpatrick was in no danger of being trucked...he went low at an angle that would cause injury and it was unnecessary. He was probably tired of getting trucked and embarrassed by Chubb so we went for his knees when he was defenseless like the lil bitch he is.

  3. Vontaze was interviewed by Pac and this was what he said about the hit on Chubb

    Quote

As a defender, if you see somebody on the offensive [player]’s back, you would try to punch the ball out or watch him go down. You don’t go for a dude’s knee when he’s already top-down heavy and he can’t jump over you, he can’t defeat you. That’s the stuff the Stealers do, though. They kinda do like the borderline stuff.

If he does start I think it's more on Taylor & Callahan to put together a game plan he can run effectively.  The weapons are there but can the OL execute well enough to make them effective?

More to the point, if they can't, don't we have bigger problems than Joe's muscle strain?

They need to stop expecting him to be Superman out there. Sure he needs to play like an MVP but the rest of the offense has got to step it up around him. Shitting the entire bed just because he's at 75% is not acceptable.

The game plan and play calling needs to protect Burrow if they know he's only %50-75 healthy...don't call so many pass plays if he's showing you he can't plant and throw with accuracy and timing...run the damn ball. I was watching how Kyle Shannan, the best offensive coach in the NFL, protects Brock Purdy and puts him in manageable situations that make it easier for him to have success and wonder why can't we do the same for Joe.

imagine that, pacman being harassed and arrested for damn near nothing,

    this thread sure got quiet.

some real shitty humans in this place.

It was obviously something or he wouldn't have gotten arrested. Sounds like he was trying to move seats before take-off, which no airline will let you do, after take-off... sure have it...he doesn't have good conflict resolution skills and thinks the rules of society are optional, this is based on his numerous and lengthy arrest record for dumb shit.

Pacman has grown and matured, undoubtedly, but causing an issue on an airplane on 9/11 is fucking dumb...and if me thinking that makes me a shitty human then call me Shitty McShitface...

You are correct: every NFL player was top-line quality in HS—and many were near that in college. QB’s in particular are winnowed down as they advance.

    Put this in another thread:

    https://gohuskies.com/sports/football/roster/jake-browning/6762

Why wasn’t he drafted—with a bio like this? Who knows? My point is: experience a production in high pressure environments (like even the PAC 12) should give a fellow like him a leg up to at least keep this offense above tread water level.

    Or not.

If you look at the stats, it seems like he regressed from 2016 to 2018 and that could be the reason why he wasn't drafted. I don't follow Huskie football so I don't have any context but the numbers show a huge regression in TD passes and an increase in INTs.

Here's his scouting report per NFL.com

    Quote
    Overview
Accomplished four-year starter who is the school's all-time leading passer and winner of two conference championships. Even with those accolades, Browning is a college game-manager whose success is tied to his talent at receiver. Browning has moments where he can rise to the occasion, but he's failed to sustain it over the last two seasons and he doesn't have the size, arm strength or intangibles to fall back on. He is a late-round to undrafted prospect with an uphill battle to earn a roster spot.
    Strengths
    • Four-year starter with most wins in Pac-12 history
    • Throws with accuracy and hits receivers in stride when feet are set
    • Has some experience in a pro-style attack
    • Clean footwork in drop back and set-up
    • Mechanics and footwork are solid
    • Patient in allowing routes to develop
    • Throws with above-average touch to all three levels
    • Plays with adequate pocket mobility
    • Plays with relative calm once he's freed from the pocket
    • Experienced in inclement weather
    • Willing to play with pain
    Weaknesses
    • Unimpressive frame/build
    • Injured throwing shoulder in both 2015 and 2016
    • Play showed regression over the last two years
    • Foot quickness from the pocket is very average
    • Non-threatening arm strength
    • Doesn't have hose for target practice in tight windows
    • Windup release allows cornerbacks a head start on his throws
    • Short arms too many attempts
    • Dreadful decision making lead to interceptions
    Sources Tell Us

"He lost some arm after those shoulder injuries so that didn't help him, but John Ross really created that huge sophomore season for him. He's never had starting pro traits in my opinion." - AFC west coast scout

I feel like Zac is trying to live vicariously through these marginally talented backups he keeps bringing in here to play, physically Browning is eerily similar to Taylor... the Bengals' backup QB position is like reverse affirmative action for non-athletic white QBs...lol

You realize he has to make himself available to media right? He’s actually doing a damn good job of not falling into their trap questions by answering the way he did. The chick reporter  that kept asking about him being frustrated is the prime example of their attempts to create rifts when none currently exist. They do it selfishly so they can have drama to report on. They don’t give a damn about anything otherwise when it comes down to it.

I realize that, but he doesn't have to say what he said. He doesn't need to give play-calling recommendations to the coaches, let the fans and media do that. If he is going to do that, do it privately not in the media.

Sad.  Is a sport really worth assaulting and killing someone.  His family will probably sue the NFL, Team and City.  Just a hunch.

Sounds like it was a mutual fight and the guy got unlucky...but no, no game is worth fans killing each other over.

I've been to a few sporting events in my life and every time there is some dumb shit happening it's normally between two drunk people. The NFL especially has a problem with alcohol abuse at its events, mainly because of the tailgating culture in which people get drunk hours before the game and then drink more when get into the stadium.

If we sit Joe this week, then we need to add that extra lineman and just run the ball down the Rams throats. They are near the bottom of the league in run defense, and despite what @High School Harry may think Mixon is still a good RB when there are holes to hit. Add the extra linemen and give Mixon as many chances at a hole as possible

One problem, our HC who also calls plays is allergic to running the ball. Taylor is notoriously pass-happy, even in a downpour with an injured QB and a RB averaging 5 YPC

Browning was—in most evaluations—the best HS QB in the nation his senior year. He was, arguably, one of the better passing QB’s in the NCAA during his time at UW. He played in many big games. He has the bonafides.

If he has to play, it may not be as automatic a loss as one might think

There are plenty of guys who were "the best HS players" at their respective positions that can't play in the NFL, that title is vague and politically driven...Andrew Brown, former Bengal, was also considered the best HS player, and won a Gatorade award...he can barely keep a PS spot in the NFL.

I'm not saying that Browning has no chance, but if he were good he would have been drafted and gotten an opportunity to throw more than 1 pass in his NFL career.

His preseason play was uninspiring and his practice play was as well...Hopefully, I'm wrong, I would love to see him light it up like Brock Purdy or Cooper Rush.

  11. Just put him on IR already, eat the frog...

We aren't winning with him limping around, throwing passes all willy nilly...I would rather lose with Burrow on IR getting healthy than lose with him getting beat up or playing like crap(our current situation).

This could be a blessing in disguise as it can show the Bengals they need to take the backup QB situation more seriously and stop letting Zac Taylor pick guys like Ryan Finley, who is now a Pro Pickleball player(seriously), Brandon Allen, who took a demotion to leave the team, and now Jake Browing, who only had to beat out Trevor Seiman for the job.

This season is just starting, so putting Joe on IR will not automatically doom it...in theory.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that he is not. Not what any of us want to hear but there's no point in pretending otherwise.

The serenity prayer would help a lot of Bengals fans this week....

Not expecting him to save the season, I just want to see him make contributions.

He needs more than 11 snaps on average to make an impact, expecting him to contribute in any meaningful way with only a handful of snaps is not a realistic expectation. Murphy wasn't overly productive in college when he started against college kids who are not in the NFL, to expect him to blow doors in the NFL with 11 snaps is setting yourself up for disappointment.

He seems like a Sam Hubbard type of player, decent in every aspect of the game but not overly proficient in any one area. Besides the Bengals seem to want to ease these rookies recently, Dax Hill barely played early in his career with the Bengals and now he's flying all over the field making plays.

  14. 11 minutes ago, Jamie_B said:

    Murphy has logged

    13 snaps in week 1

    10 snaps in week 2

Has he recorded even a tackle yet?

Can we log this as a concern yet?

If he was getting more than a handful of snaps a game then yes, but right now he's the least of my concerns with this team. The backup rookie DE isn't going to save this season, the captains of this team have to elevate their play and the coaches have to put them in positions to be successful.

The character of this team is being tested and we will see how they respond.

  15. Ja'marr Chase was right, the Bengals should have kept Burrow out until he was completely healed and then rested him another week just to make sure. If Burrow had sat the first two weeks the outcome would have been the same instead of playing him and furthering the injury and now the season is in jeopardy.

The silver lining is if we get a top 5 pick we can hopefully snag Marvin Harrison Jr in the draft and have Chase and Harrison Jr for years to come.

This really showcases how fragile an entire NFL season can be 😩

Especially when you don't care about having a decent backup QB, not sure why the Bengals only brought in Trevor Sieman and kept him around when it was obvious he sucked.

There are more talented guys available but the Bengals went all in on inexperienced or washed-up backup QBs because it's not like having a good QB is needed to win in the NFL.

Right. Just because he's not Alexander of Turner, doesn't mean he's good.

I'm not educated enough in talent evaluation, scheme, any of that stuff. It seems like the only one who is not getting his ass kicked is Brown. Maybe Karras. The others just don't look great.

D-Line - BJ Hill is a backup. We should be getting pressure up the middle, but Lamar just ran freely straight ahead. Even Hendrickson looks meh on the edge. And it's like we weren't covering anyone in the middle of the field.

I don't think the Bengals could get anyone better than Pollack or they would have, they tried to replace him with Jim Turner and that was a clusterfuck.

  18. 1 minute ago, Cat said:

Not directly. But you know hoe Mike Brown is with former long time coaches - they become consultants. But still, you're absolutely right, it is a Tobin/Zac/Pollack problem.

Don't forget the clown Taylor originally hired, Jim Turner, who was most recently fired from Texas State for "an incident where he was "doing or saying something controversial,"  https://footballscoop.com/news/texas-state-reportedly-making-changes-on-the-offensive-side-of-the-ball which is very surprising given his track record....

Taylor seems like a good guy and all but if not for Burrow he would be exposed as one of the worst HCs in NFL history, which is what he was before Burrow showed up.
