  1. This offseason they have demonstrated they really don’t care about trying to impose their will like the other north teams. Got smaller at tailback, aren’t willing to trade Tee, signed a tight end that lines up almost exclusively in the slot, signed a right tackle who excels at pass blocking, lost their best run defender, spent money on a split safety who doesn’t tackle well. Add it up and tell me if they’re gunning for the Ravens or the Chiefs.

Im not saying I don’t want them to get pieces to match up better. I hate losing to those three teams and not even being competitive in half of them. But at the end of the day - they play well against teams outside of the AFCN, so its not like it isn’t working.

  2. I’m not sure why that would stir anyone up. The Bengals do not match up well with the teams in the North. The teams in the north haven’t had the success in the playoffs the Bengals have had because they can’t throw the football and turn into mush when they get down two scores.

The Bengals are content to try and go 3-3 or even 2-4 in the north and dog walk the rest of the league. Might cost them a bye/home field but they’ve beat the Chiefs and Bills on the road so I’m not sure that phases them at all. The moves they’ve made have been to stop explosive pass plays and run their offense out of 11. They are gearing up to beat the Chiefs/Bills/Texans not the Browns/Stealers/Ravens

  3. I can’t find the final ADOT but he was not pushing the ball down the field. I can’t imagine the ADOT got much better post Vikings game. Probably hovered right around that 6.2 mark.

Could he be a dollar store Purdy? Maybe. But at the same time - there aren’t many teams in the NFL set up like the 9ers or Bengals offensively for that matter.

  4. Dan Jeremiah newest mock has us passing on Murphy and taking Latham.

Really tough to know what teams are going to value in different tackles IE: Bears taking Wright at 10 last year. I imagine Murphy/Latham have to be the odds on favorite at this point. Think Murphy would be the clubhouse leader if Brown deal gets done. G/T combo day two.

  5. They don’t necessarily have to get another big guy to hold up against the run. They just need guys who can shoot gaps and less Zach Carter honestly. He was on the field for some absurd amount of their long runs given up.

There was a graphic floating around today showing quite a few teams in the NFL don’t have a guy over 310 and were in the top 10 in stopping the run. They just need two more decent to good bodies to get a good rotation going.

  6. If they franchise him again next year I think I’ll rip my hair out. If you are going to guarantee two years in full - why not do it now and get an extra two years of control.

I think it’s certainly possible. But it will be frustrating and probably a signal that things are changing as much as we would hope or they’re cash poor.

And it's all patchwork and smoke and mirrors until they figure out the Oline. MAYBE they might get a RT that can be like Willie Anderson was in the running game, that changes the conversation. Until then or until they get some guards that can pull like Stienbach did, it's going to continue to be smoke and mirrors. Having Joe work on getting under center.....which they were doing before he got hurt last year.... would do wonders for not just the running game, but for protecting Joe. We don't have to make it the primary offense but we do need to do it alot more.

And that is fair, and I think that’s the next progression in the offense. The Chiefs run 12, the Bills run 12, and the Ravens run a ton of 12. The NFL is starting to see that shift and the Bengals are lagging behind, but they are still looking at the tight ends that could give them the edge to run 12.  12 gives you seven guys on the line and the ability to double up both interior and edge as well as getting big athletic guys to the second level.

Problem right now is they signed a tight end that has played 90% of his snaps split out and another tight end who doesn’t pose much of a receiving threat. It looks like another year of 11. They’ve done well enough with it, but you’re absolutely right. ADOT has fallen each year since they’ve signed Jamarr. They either get a slot who can burn that middle seam of T2 or they start running it more efficiently.

Reminds me of when Fisher went from guard to tackle to H-back to TE or whatever.  He might not have been good to begin with but he never had a chance.

Dax is cooked. He’s nothing more than Tre Flowers at this point and they got reluctant to play Tre because it showed their hand.

  9. Sure. But until they run the ball down the field better than they can throw the ball in chunks to Ja’Marr and Tee, they are going to see all kinds of T2 variations. It’s not going to happen overnight and signing a tight end like G shows they still do not care about getting bigger guys on the field to block. And really until they can get some athletic lineman to run outside zone, they’re going to be running into the teeth of the biggest guys on the field. You want to have the ability to run away from those guys and at light edges, corners, and safeties.

If they draft Bowers or Sinnot, it would signal a shift in philosophy. I think they’re content to run 11 and nickel and dime teams down the field and throw the ball to their new big slot receiver.

  10. Chew on this for a second. The Bengals don’t give a shit about running the ball. They have the most accurate quarterback in the league. They would probably throw it 100% of the time if they could.

Until they dedicate the appropriate resources to it, they are going to be running their offense out of 11 personnel and letting the short passing game and RPOs be their primary run game.
