1. Hilarious. I think I am at the point where I am starting to believe that Calipari is a little dirty, but I oddly find myself not caring much. I think he just happened to get caught (even if in reality he really didn't, the meaning is that an aspect of his program got caught under his supposed watch), and that's what I want to stop. If a coach is doing anything even remotely shady (Calhoun?), you keep that shit tight and under wraps. Otherwise you aren't an effective leader. There is no such thing as "playing within the rules" anymore, now it's "let's get creative with this rule". I have to be fine with that, otherwise, college basketball wouldn't be much fun for me anymore. But I blame the NCAA just as much as I do the coaches/programs (there can be a difference!) for not anticipating the unravelling of the game as it translates into pro ball. Some of their rules, like a player not being able to have a job, are positively draconian, and so are he punishments doled out when a program is found in violation of these rules, even if it's relatively minor. I just want to win. Kentucky basketball has suffered enough under the reign of a fool, it's time to get back to basics. And that means recruiting players that are worth a shit creatively.
 2.
What does that have to do with Coach K again? Cal is a slimeball. I'm sure every UK will come to his defense though..but fact is that he pretty much got Rose into college and catered to his needs to get him to Memphis. I'm sure the same situation will come up here in a few years..
Isn't it possible that someone (without Calipari's knowledge) helped Rose on his SAT? Like maybe an agent? A friend? An alum? I mean, he's taking that test before college, not after.
 3.
All quiet in Big Blue country... Color me not surprised... Calipari at it Again Apparently, he made sure Derrick Rose passed is SAT/ACT to become eligible.
Calipari is not being charged with anything. And in other news, I heard on the radio this morning that Billy G is suing UK for 6 million, claiming wrongful termination.
 4.
Fucking brilliant: Bledsoe made his grades, by the way.
I still can't tell if you actually like Kige or if you are continually mocking him by posting his videos. I can't stand his hick schtick stuff, but to each his own I guess. I wonder where this recruiting class leaves some guys currently on the squad? Guys like Liggins, Harris, Stewart, Miller, Harrelson, Galloway? We have to cut down on our scholarships, and some of these guys here have got to go. I can't stand Liggins' turnover prone style of play, but maybe Cal can get something out of him that Billy G could not. Who do you guys thinks get the axe in favor of the new blood?
 5.
UK is loaded. I disagree with anyone saying it's boom or bust. Cal put together the #1 class for UK in about 2 months. UK is national player again and will be for many years. UK is a top job in college basketball and now they just have coach that can get top players. They don't hand out national championships so that's not what I'm trying to say, but the days of UK being NCAA bubble team for 4 straight years are over.
By boom or bust I only meant with this current group of players. Meeks (if he comes back) and Patterson will certainly be gone after next season (not sure who actually graduates), as will guys like Wall that will probably only play a year. But no matter, because Cal will bring in other guys next year. And the next.
 6. We have some serious firepower now. I agree that this looks like a "next year or bust" scenario, but maybe we can get a few of these guys that aren't juniors or seniors to stay at least another year. Plus, Calipari is always going to be bringing in elite recruiting classes every year just like he did at Memphis. His name is out there in the bigtime now. Kids want to play for him because they know he's a winner and he gets them into the NBA. Watch out world, here we come! I am so happy for my Wildcats now.
 7. You Duke fans make me irretrievably ill. It's bad enough that you post in the UK Wildcat thread; do you have to post shit about your fucking team, too?
 8.
I tend to think that this kid is going to narrow down to UK, Miami, and Duke pretty soon. Words won't describe my glee if he signs with UK. It would be like having Lebron on a college team. Honestly, I'm not sure how his athleticism would work at FlopU. Miami scares me, though. Personally, I would rather live in Coral Gables than in Lexington for a year.
Pretty cagey reply to Mr. Scharm's post, Mr. #22.
 9. Vol- UK's football program is quite a bit more than an afterthought these days (after decades of pathetic play). I hope that both UK and UC continue to improve in this area. Watch out UT!
 10.
I think it's safe to say if you don't like Kentucky Basketball you'll find something wrong with this hire. Oh well. Did people actually think, Kentucky would just sit down and shrug their shoulders at being a bubble team/NIT team year after year? Sit there and watch other top programs load up on talent and be accepting of the bullshit reasoning that the college basketball landscape has changed? It doesn't matter who the coach is, that individual must get them on the path to No. 8 or move on with their coaching career somewhere else. Cal will be no different if he doesn't get results, he'll be a hero if he does.
I think he will. We may end up being a loaded squad next season. And if the SEC imitates CUSA's level of suckitude again next season, UK could easily end up with 30 wins. How cool would that be, Calipari extending his 30 plus win seasons streak across conferences/teams?
 11. The "Caliparication" vid was kinda cool, but PLEASE with the Kige Ramsey videos! That guy is the epitome of why people NOT from Kentucky make fun of people FROM Kentucky!
 12.
The '96 team will pale in comparison to what Cal is about to do at UK. I just hope that they don't get busted for it.
You know, it's funny...people go on and on how Calipari ruined UMASS and how Memphis was his "second chance" and all...and I'm sure there was some shit going on and all...but Wikipedia mentions none of it in his profile. Nothing. Not even a whiff of controversy. Interesting. And quite honestly, I think that all the big programs cheat (see: UCONN this year), it becomes a "how bad you cheated and do you get caught" kinda issue. I like it if Calipari is our new coach. He's a farsight better than Clyde and his womanizing, drinking, DUI's, inattention to detail (despite his self-proclaimed hard work ethic), inability to grasp the UK basketball fanbase and culture, and general dismissiveness of just about anything he didn't deem worthy of caring about. I think I will end up liking this better than if we hired Donovan, whom is seemingly pretty flaky, and whom is now probably shaking at the prospect of Florida being unseated as the top dog in SEC basketball.
 13.
It doesn't look like its gonna be Mr. Wall.. But with Meeks, Orton, and Patterson they should be pretty good. It's rumored Cal is bringing 3 guys from memphis with him and bumping a couple of UK players of a scholarship. Thats kind of shitty. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I love college ball and all the drama that goes into recruiting and such.
I don't think it's a given that Meeks and Patterson will be back, despite what they've been saying.
 14.
its for idiots?
Big beer drinker, are you? UK needs a fucking quality point guard, and now.
 15.
How in the hell was Donovan wishy-washy? He said he had no interest in the gig within an hour of it becoming available.
**Before Billy G** "Gee, I don't know, yea, I'm accepting the UK job", "no, I am going to be the Miami Heat's new coach, they are throwing ridiculous money at me" "NO. I'm going to stay at FLorida" "Wow, the UK job is available AGAIN? Sign me up!" "Damn, I can't take that job" Fuck Billy D and his indeciseveness.
 16.
From Lance McAlister's blog . . . http://www.1530homer.com/pages/lancesBlog.html
I don't think Izzo will come here.
 17.
what makes Kentucky such a popular job?
Money, prestige, history and being the God of an entire state. UK is the winningest program in NCAA history, and the oldest, and utterly dominates all the SEC conference record books. I sure hope UK ends up with a coach they genuinely want and that wants to come here. I think it's going to be Calipari now. Donovan is wishy-washy, and I think Calipari really covets the job, so I hope he gets it. He's a great recruiter and a good coach.
 18.
Thats true. I think the the interest is definately there. The talent at UK is there as well. Someone just has to put it together. Billy is a hell of a recruiter and has some killer classes coming into UF the next few years so he may stay put there as well. Hopefully something unfolds soon.
Billy G has a pretty good class coming in, too. I hope that whomever is selected to be the new coach that he can convince the players coming in to still come, and also to keep Patterson and Meeks around for at least one more year. I think both need more polish before they are NBA ready anyway, especially Meeks.
 19.
I'm reading that Billy D. is still a possibilty..
That and college coaches lie all the time.
 20.
Sounds like you've got a bit of wishful thinking going on there, Bung. from ESPN:
Billy D is COMING TO KENTUCKY!!!!! Stop saying otherwise! Because if it isn't Billy D, and we just fired Billy G, then we are begging...and UK doesn't beg bitch!!!!!!!
 21.
This just in, Alan Cutler is a huuuuuuge Douche.
Jesus Christ save me. I knew Alan was a Lexington douche, but not a LEXINGTON DOUCHEBAG!
I have a feeling you guys will end up with Travis Ford. Most people will be upset, but I think he'll do much better than Billy G. He'll make all the off-court inroads that Billy G seemed socially unable to do. I remember hearing something about how the UK coach has addressed some rotary club (maybe it was something else?) before every season since the 1950's and Gillispie just blew it off and downplayed its importance. Ford will be much more adroit at handling everything off the court, and I think he's a better basketball coach anyway. I guess the real question is can he consistently recruit, he's never had to do that at a "BCS," nevermind a school like UK, school for an extended period of time.
I'd be ecstatic with Travis Ford. UK boy comes home, etc. Storytime.
 22.
This is a dream come true if Billy D goes to UK. Hopefully Kenny B will now come to Duke.
I'd rather Kenny G went to Duke.
 23.
Sorry bung not laughing at you I wish Leakybengal still posted here, he kept going on and on about the "Tubby Appologists" and how Gillispie was the man and how he would turn UK around and make them a winning team again. Sometimes people should be careful what they wish for. (in reference to firing marvin)
I'm just stoked that they have the guy in place that they wanted instead of Billy G. I didn't want them to just fire Gillispie without having a successor already lined up. Weird how this all turned out. Got the guy we wanted in the first place, and their names are seperated by one letter. Goodbye Billy G, hello Billy D! This really changes the face of SEC basketball, too. And I bet a million bucks that we don't lose any of those top recruits Gillispie has coming in for next season. And Patterson said he was coming back, I bet Meeks comes back now too.
 24. Gillispie is Ghandi: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4021232
 25.
I just heard on teh news something is going down today, 3/27/09. Interesting stuff on the radio the other day. I do not recall all of it but it was a step by step breakdown of teh timeline w/Tubby/Billy G. Tubby will not recruit. Uk tells him to make changes. Tubby wants to hire son Saul. Uk policy does not allow. Tubby's agent seeks deal elsewhere. When deal is found both are a win/win. Tubby can go and do coach/recuit the way he wants to. UK does not look bad firing him. Uk knows Tubby deal is brewing and Billy D's agent is working on the UK deal. Billy D was a done deal. All it lacked was for Billy D to sign and the Heat stepped up. Billy D takes Heat job. Rick P and someone else both called Billy D and talked him out of the NBA. Uk now in panic mode as they are about to lose their recuiting class. Patterson and ????? Uk - something to do with Ricky Barnes and another coach. I did not hear the whole segiment to understand. In a panic from Barnhart ------- Billy G becomes the man, yet never signs his contract. Moving forward from the mess, the 3 most obvious choices ------ 1) Billy D 2) J Calipari (sp?) 3) Travis Ford Don't worry UK haters. They will be back. This is very simlar to what happened at NC just a few years ago. Doughtry made a mess and then what happened?
Why would the haters worry? THEY are happy! It's the fans like ME that are worried!!
