  1. Fashanu/Fautanu/Fuaga - so weird (and confusing) that 3 of the OL names the Bengals could select in the 1st round sound so remarkably similar.
  2. One reason Jones didn't go higher was his advanced age. He was at least 2 years older than the average rookie WR.
  3. Guess that was always the most likely scenario. Tee plays one more year in Cincinnati, then the Bengals should get a comp pick for him in the 2026 draft when he goes elsewhere for the 2025 season and beyond.
  4. The draft is loaded with WRs, both top end and depth wise. The Bengals aren't going to get a 1st for Higgins, much less another pick. They could have gotten that last spring when Higgins still had a year left on his rookie contract and the WR draft class wasn't particularly strong. That opportunity has now passed them by.
  5. The Browns are paying franchise QB money for a non-franchise QB, yet are still extending numerous players with big money contracts. We've seen teams like the Cowboys and the Saints have to eventually pull back because of cap restraints, but the Browns seem to avoid this nightmare somehow. The money continues to flow. Maybe they employ the greatest accountant in all of sports, I dunno.
  6. As long as there is still a gaping hole at nose tackle, after struggling horribly against the run last year in a run-first division, it is hard for me to give the Bengals an A. But they have improved the team in some other areas, especially at defending the pass.
  7. "One of the best players I've had the privilege of playing with. I've endorsed him when I've been asked," Karras said. "He's a premier player. He knows what it takes to win. He's a super athlete to be so big and move like that. He's very strong. A guy who has played a lot football. Seventh-round draft pick. Made his way up in this league. It's always good to see an old friend again. A guy that you've done it with. It's exciting for me. And we're going into the draft with a full line"
  8. Yeah, they are not going to pay Scott that money to just do on special teams what Tycen Anderson can already do. Can't keep both safeties at the expense of another CB. Simmons seemed heartbroken when Anderson went down with the ACL. He had become a top core STs player. Safe to say that Nick Scott was big miss for Anarumo, who handpicked him last March.
  9. Can certainly pay him if they choose to - just look at the big money extensions the Ravens and Browns have handed out while having to pay franchise QB money. But you would have to hand out tons of guaranteed money to both Jefferson/Chase...something so far they have only done with Burrow. But I've seen no indication that the Bengals are going to diverge away from their standard contract structure (the one that is unlike the other 31 teams in the NFL).
  10. Kansas City has a lot of things going on besides a great QB and a HOF head coach. There are other areas where they were the league best or near league best this past season, and they needed all of it plus good health/luck to win a Super Bowl. A DT as good as any in football. The best pair of bookend man-to-man CBs in 2023. The best PK/punting kicking tandem in 2023 (both were huge factors in the low scoring playoffs). I didn't even mention the HOF TE yet (although I guess I am now).
  11. Araiza first has to adjust to kicking in the pros after being out of football for two years. As for holding, it isn't where he mishandles the snap, it's whether Butker has something else to think about when he's trying to kick. You just never know what can set a kicker back from year to year.
  12. Araiza was both a PK and punter at San Diego State. He has no placeholding experience at all. KC is taking a big gamble with him. Butker was was the best PK in the league last year with Townsend as his holder. So much of kicking is mental, even for the best place kickers. But the Chiefs are looking to save money. They might end up regretting not to sticking with the sure thing punter/placeholder.
  13. Townsend as a placeholder has been letter-perfect. Ask Harrison Butker. They were best kicking tandem in the league this season and a huge factor in the playoffs.
  14. They should do more than consider signing Townsend, they should make him a priority if they are serious about chasing championships. Poor punting hurt them in both of their deep playoff runs. KC just won a Super Bowl with a spectacular special teams performance. Townsend was also a great holder for Butker, held for McPherson at Florida one season. How could Townsend not be a free agent target? He has everything Simmons is looking for in a punter.
  15. Tommy Townsend would be a great free agent pickup for the Bengals. Punting is such a huge factor in low-scoring playoff games. Maybe KC is farther behind at halftime against the 49ers if Townsend hadn't kept flipping the field for the struggling Chiefs offense.
  16. The Chiefs basically just won a Super Bowl largely because of a tremendous special teams performance. The KC punter bailed out a struggling offense several times in the game. Butker/Townsend was the best PK/P tandem in the NFL this past season. Need someone great to pair with McPherson.
  17. This draft is top heavy with WRs who could give you Tee production on a rookie contract. Last year's draft had some good WRs, true, but they were more smallish slot guys. Higgins would have had more trade value in the 2023 draft than this one. Absolutely no way they get a top 10 draft pick this year in exchange for Higgins. Impossible dream.
  18. The Bengals only have one Georgia product currently on the roster, and that one is hanging onto the back end of the roster by his fingernails. Cincinnati puts so much stock into drafting character, and the Georgia program has been under a lot of scrutiny the last few years. The Georgia program has produced a top of ton of physical talent to the NFL in the last few years after back-to-back national championships, but some teams seem wary of their prospects. The whispers are there about character within the Georgia program. Always interesting to see where prospects are media mocked from mostly nothing beyond game film to where they are actually selected. In the 2023 draft Jalen Carter and Broderick Jones all went off the board a little later than projected. Nolan Smith dropped to the end of the 1st round. Darnell Washington and Kelee Ringo were getting 1st round mock buzz only be selected in the 3rd and 4th rounds. The 2022 draft also produced some curious Georgia prospects lasting longer on boards than predicted. Some teams seem to go out of their way to avoid drafting Georgia players while a few playoff teams (Eagles/Stealers/Packers) show no hesitation about drafting Georgia products. In fact, they often seem to move up in the draft to take Georgia players they deem to be falling below actual value.
  19. Houston isn't soft but they are pretty banged up. I do like Stroud though. Will be interesting to see if Baltimore gets off to a slow start.
  20. That mistake pretty much sums up the Carolina Panthers overall dysfunction. No part of their organization seems to ever have a clue what's going on.
  21. Lost the 3rd round Bates comp pick by signing Orlando Brown. Considered an even exchange. I believe the Bengals will get 2 picks between rounds 5-7
  22. The billionaire is like 6 ft tall. Of course she is thin. Give me the billionaire...mostly because she is a billionaire.
  23. Paul Dehner: Higgins will enter the offseason as one of the most sought-after free agents on the market. The franchise tag is available for one year and just north of $21 million. The deadline for the tag decision is March 5. The Bengals swung and missed on a long-term extension this past August, but could try again for multiple years. They could tag and trade in hopes of adding assets if a deal can’t be reached. They could pass on guaranteeing that much money for one season and let him walk. There are multiple options, but with Burrow’s contract extension not fully attacking the cap until 2025, the team has $54 million in effective cap space, via Over The Cap, currently sixth-most. There’s more than enough space to apply a tag and then proceed from there into the offseason priorities.
  24. The league likes to punish teams that play brutal schedules as much as possible. So of course Cincinnati will draft last among all 5 teams with 9-8 records. Will the Bengals draft the 18th pick in every round or just in the 1st? Do they rotate each round among the teams with the same records? I can never remember.
