CINCINNATI (Oct. 31, 2005) -- The Bengals put safety Madieu Williams on injured reserve Oct. 31, ending his season a week after he had shoulder surgery.

The second-year starter played in the first four games, then hurt his shoulder in practice Sept. 30.

The Bengals activated guard Steven Vieira to take his roster spot. The undrafted rookie from UCLA sprained a foot in minicamp last April and was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Ohalete is making some progress... I think getting accllimated with his new teammates and the schemes made him do more thinking than reacting.....Hopefully he's comfortable enough back there now that he'll be productive.....

to add to that, KK is also getting used to playing free safety... they will only get better playing together... ohalete can definately hit and is close to equivalent to madieu on run defense....

Actually KK is having a pretty decent year.. He had 10 total tackles against the Pack...
I think Body is a project in the making ......

KK led the team in tackles against GB..

That is far from sucking...

Do i want him startjng ? No?

But he is a valuable player off the bench to have. You can't have 52 starters. He is only playing due to injury.

Surgery ends safety's season

By Kevin Goheen
Post staff reporter

Safety Madieu Williams' season is officially over.

The Bengals placed Williams on injured reserve Monday afternoon as the result of surgery last week to repair a torn left labrum. Williams injured the shoulder Sept. 30 during a non-contract drill two days prior the Bengals playing Houston and has played just once, at Tennessee Oct. 16, in the last five games.

Williams and Kim Herring were the safeties at the top of the depth chart at the start of training camp, but they are now two of the five Bengals placed on IR this season. Running back Kenny Watson (elbow) and offensive linemen Larry Moore (knee) and Adam Kieft (knee) are the other three players on IR.

"We were aware that once he decided that surgery was the course of action he wanted to take, that would be season-ending surgery," said head coach Marvin Lewis. "But you don't ever do that until the surgeon actually opens up the wound and sees the injury."

Lewis said Williams' recovery process could take up to six months.

Kevin Kaesviharn and Ifeanyi Ohalete are the starting safeties, with Anthony Mitchell the primary backup. Kaesviharn led the Bengals with 10 tackles in Sunday's 21-14 win over Green Bay.

Offensive lineman Steven Vieira takes Williams' roster spot. Vieira was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Linebacker Caleb Miller remains on the PUP list and the Bengals have one more week of evaluation left on him before they must make a roster decision.

TIME CHANGE - The Nov. 20 home game against Indianapolis has been switched from a 1 p.m. kickoff to 4:15 p.m. in order to accommodate a request from CBS. The network will broadcast the game as part of its national doubleheader.

"It shapes up as a very attractive game between teams with two of the league's best records, and this switch will allow it to be shown to as many fans as possible across the country," said Greg Aiello, NFL vice president of public relations. :headbang:

INJURY REPORT - Lewis said linebacker David Pollack would still be listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Baltimore with a sprained knee. Pollack started against Tennessee and Pittsburgh on the strong side but was injured in the first half against the Steelers. He did not play against Green Bay and was replaced in the lineup by Landon Johnson, who came up with eight tackles against the Packers.

Center Rich Braham (ankle), defensive end Robert Geathers (quad) and kick returner Tab Perry (back) are probable to play against the Ravens.

"Everybody else will be free and clear," Lewis said. "They're a little bumped and bruised, but that's where we ought to be after eight games."

STARGAZING - Chad Johnson wasn't switching allegiances, but he couldn't resist the opportunity before him. In pre-game warm-ups Sunday, the Bengals' wide receiver met up with Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre and got the Packers legend and future Hall of Famer to throw a pass to him.

"It was fun. That's why I was out there," Johnson said. "I probably won't get that close to someone else of that stature until Carson gets old. I don't want to say I was star-struck, but..."

This wasn't the first time Johnson took advantage of playing against one of the NFL's all-time greats. Two years ago in a game against the Oakland Raiders, Johnson made sure to meet up with Jerry Rice, the league's all-time leading receiver.

MORE CHAD - This Sunday's game at Baltimore gives Johnson a chance to meet up with a secondary that is regarded as one of the league's best.

"I'm ready for Samari Rolle, Chris McAlister, Ed Reed and Will Demps," said Johnson. "This is the game that I can't wait for. I'm excited like, remember when you were little and the night before Christmas that feeling you used to have? That's the feeling I have when it's time to play the Ravens."

McAlister and Rolle, Johnson's cousin who joined the Ravens this offseason as a free agent from Tennessee, are named jointly on Johnson's "Who Covered 85 in '85" list hanging in his locker. The Ravens are no different than any other team when it comes to the attention they give Johnson. They routinely have a safety, usually Reed, helping the cornerback.

That didn't keep Johnson from catching 10 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns in Cincinnati's 27-26 win last December in Baltimore. Fellow receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh also had 10 receptions for 171 yards and one touchdown as the Bengals scored 24 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 20-3 deficit and win in Baltimore for the first time since 1996.

Johnson's 48 catches this season are second best in the NFL and he is fourth with 717 yards. He's scored five touchdowns and produced 38 first downs with his 48 catches.

WEEKLY STATS - The Bengals have the No. 4-ranked offense and the No. 19 defense through the NFL's first eight weeks, not including Monday night's game between Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Those rankings are based on total yardage gained and allowed. Cincinnati is No. 11 in scoring, averaging 23.6 points per game. The Bengals are fourth in points allowed with an average of 15.6 points per game.
