CINCINNATI —Ken Griffey Jr. will switch from 30 to 3 next season.

The Cincinnati Reds said Friday that Griffey will wear 3 on his uniform in 2006 as a tribute to his children — all three wear the number 3 when playing sports.

Griffey wore 24 while playing for the Seattle Mariners, then switched to 30 when he joined the Reds. His father, Ken Griffey Sr., also wore 30 when he played for the Reds.

Next season will be Griffey Jr.'s seventh as a Red. The 36-year-old center fielder batted .301 with 35 home runs and 92 RBI in 128 games last season.

wow its really been 7 years since he came to cincy? it sure as hell doesn't feel that long (maybe its becasue he hadn't been fully healthy for a full season yet). haha its crazy that i can still remember exactly what i was doing when i first heard griffey was traded to the reds. i was in like 3rd or 4th grade and i was out on playground for recess and i looked up and a plane was flying over head with a banner behind it that said "Griffey is comming to Cincy" or something of that sort, and all the kids started cheering. there was soo much buzz about how we were finally going to have a good team but that idea got shot to hell pretty quick after he got hurt

Maybe before he starts honoring anything

he should try to stay healthy for just one season...damn

I was so excited when he came...i probably wet my pants that day...but now its like how many games can griffey go without tweaking a old nagging injury.

Heres to the winning season the reds deserve so much!! :headbang:
