I've used MACs at work for over 8 years and had a PC at home for 15 to 20 years. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. The biggest problem with MACs, is it's a PC world. If I want software for my PC, I can download anything I want. If I want to upgrade hardware, there are a thousand companies competing for my money making it cheaper. If I spend as much on a PC as I would on a MAC, I can get a far superior machine. MAC made the mistake years ago of making everything proprietary and they lost the market. MACs rule the graphics industry because they needed a niche, and that's what they focused on, but I can do anything on my PC that I can do on a MAC, but not the other way around. They have such a small share of the market that a lot of companies don't even make software compatible for them.

I've known people on both sides of the fence, but having used both extensively, I don't plan on ever buying a MAC unless it's dirt cheap just as a novelty.

I can download any software i want for my tower or laptop.
they are simpler, easier, more elegant and virus free.
Tell me one thing a pc can do that a mac can't . I'll help you out. Get hacked, get infected with spyware, virus, trojan etc.....driver glitches, frequent crashes, hardware incompatabilites. so on so forth. I just state fact. Next thing is you'll tell me windows is better than OS X. I've read noble prize winners and certified genius's waxing poetic about os x. EASE, SIMPLICITY,ELEGANCE, RELIABILTY, SECURITY. Although I did like windows 2000 a bunch.

Whatever...

The only reason MACs don't have the same virus problems is because so few people use them no one bothers with hacking them or planting viruses. BTW, they aren't virus free. I use OS X and OS 9 at work and XP at home. I've been through all the incarnations of dos, windows and MAC operating systems over the years, so no need to "help me out". OS X is filled with glitches, just like every other operating system for either. It's just a computer. If you're happy with your MAC, that's great. Just don't act like everyone else is an asshole for using a PC. Like I said earlier, there are advantages and disadvantages to both, for the reasons I already stated. If you don't mind overpaying and you're concerned about "elegance" and what noble prize winners wax poetic about, jack off to pictures of G5's for all I care. I don't hate or love either one. It is a PC world though, like it or not. Get used to it.

You absolutely are not stating fact, so get off the soap box. Macs get hacked, infected, have their version of driver glitches, etc. They are fine machines, but only a fool would think them bulletproof.

I doubt anyone would say XP is better than X, but XP sure is the dominant OS. As for the Nobel prize winners, what OS do they do all of their research with? Macs are fine computers (I own two of them), but to make all of those claims you made is ludicrous. We live in a Windows world. Computing life is easier on a Windows box.

Any chance a mod could move this mac discussion to a new thread and leave the help thread to itself?

alt.binaries.mac will get you whatever your heart desires. alt.binaries.sounds.aac will get you an array of mp4's. alt.binaries.mac.games, alt.binaries.mac.osx, etc..

I've used mac for 3 years and have never had a virus, horse, etc. I'm not on a soapbox, it's just true. Let's see what i gots on my archive drive. Final cut pro, the macromedia suite, office, reason, pro tools, creative suite, canvas, quark, vectorworks. Final draft pro, after effects, mac the ripper, dvd2onex, 3000 mp3-4's , numerous games. whatever i want.

Now i did luck out on my tower and yes they are expensive. But they hold their resale value(FACT). Try selling an outdated pc on ebay. And P.C.s become out dated much quicker than a glorious macintosh. Check out my g4 tower specs---Dual 1.25 ghz, Four 180 Gig harddrives, 2 gig of ram, Geforce 4600 (Which has caused problems) Die nVidia. Cost 1300 bucks. ANd i have proof of it all. (For all the doubters) It's a pc world because most fools are sheep and have no idea what they are missing.

AND OS X KICKS THE SHIT OUT OF WINDOWS.(FACT)

Someone much wiser than i once said you get what you pay for.

And you can run virtual PC on a mac if you just have to use winblows.

DONT PUT WORDs in to my mouth, i never said they are bullet proof. Just better.(MONGO) And more reliable(FACT)

And if you need to update your mac, you click you mouse on the little apple icon. Go to software update and there it all is. No hunting around a mother board manufacture sites for the latest chipset drivers, then rolling over to your grapics card site to look for drivers, then back to windows update, then to you printer manufacturers site. so on so forth.

Ease,Stability,reliabitly and elegance.

Oh and OS X kicks the shit out of windows. This is the biggy. I have never seen a blue screen of death on my mac. I don't have to jump through hoops and go though restarts to add or remove software. I've had the tower lock up before, but i blame this on the shitty nVida card.

My Laptop has never, ever locked up. No program has ever crashed ever on it. (FACT)

MAC's rule.

Actually in XP you can do scheduled updates of the XP OS and most drivers...

Ive used both as well and there are somethings that OS X blow XP out of the water with ... and there are things that XP blow OS X out of the water with...

The best move Apple made in a long time is putting the OSX with Liniux, now if they want to work on getting out of just the graphics and entertainment nitch they can leverage Java and Linux.

But reguardless, I wolnt be developing for OS X anytime soon, just doesnt make ecnomical sence.

Os x is based on Unix.

Give me an example where xp beats os x.
And as far as your reasons for not writing for Os x your absolutly right. Because the majority use windows, the just don't know any better.

I already told you, Software development... windows destroys Mac in this area, its really a shame because if there were better development enviorments for mac, more might consider developing for it.

And I may be wrong but isnt the "unix" version your speaking of that OS X uses, Free BSD?.... That is a flavor of Linux.

That quote implies Macs are errorproof. Since the quote is also false, I took issue. Don't get all capital letter stressed out because I point out where your zeal eclipsed the truth.

I agree, because I could go on for DAYS as to why Apple failed when they had a chance to be the dominate OS and why they will still fail to that end.

Also could you call the new thread "Microsoft Owns Apple, both Figuratively and Literally" :P

Ha! One of my younger sisters is in that program. She loves her powerbook, other than the fact that the hardware is crap. And apple support is crap.

One of the big killers for macs is: Games. Unless you want to wait a year or 2 to play it.

I make my living dealing w/ computers/servers. The biggest security risk w/ any system(unix/mac/otherwise) is between the keyboard and the chair.

No, I'm using the best machine on the market.
Plus, as someone else posted, 99% of viruses are PC, so the Mac is safer. And, woth OS X, I NEVER crash. Not once since I bought it.
