fuck espn man, they dont even care what he did.
If they mention it at all, it will be to joke around with him that "he's still beating up the Bengals, even though he's no longer a Stealer"
they did mention it...he referred to what he did as "its like a speeding ticket"
What did the hosts say about it? I am not suprised at Joy "The Mouth" Porter's attempt to minimize it.
It sounded like Porter was hoping that Levi would drop the case so he wouldnt get in trouble with the NFL.
Yeah, Overall Porter was "trying" to be contrite. He did try to minimize it, no doubt. Also mentioned he was in Vegas for his mother's 50yr b-day. But he was definitely hoping this goes away and even offered his apologies, saying this will not help anyone, and he doesn't know how Levi's feels but its best just to let it go. Again offering his apologies.

Overall, it was trying to down play it as nothing happened - "speeding ticket" example. And at the same time being like oh fuck, I need Levi to drop this.

Just my take.

Wait till the commissioner gets a look at the video. No wonder he wants it to go away. How do you explain away a mugging?

He probably told goodell he was sorry and will try not to do it again, or if he does not on tape in front of a couple hundred witnesses.

Yeah, all those witnesses mean you have to give back the $40K in jewelry.

It was the headline story on espn.com just a little while back.

He mentioned the Pacman/Henry suspension a few times, and how he doesn't want to go down that road (or as he said, "go to the principals office"). This tells me that the players are afraid to fuck up now, furthering my belief that Goodell did the right thing. The word is out, the jig is up...it's time to act right.

I hope that Goodell DOES act on Porter. What he and his friends did was extremely cowardly. Levi not pressing charges himself certainly doesn't help though.

it wasnt a headline and it was only on the front page for half a day. meanwhile, chris henry gets a dui and maintains a permanent fixture on the front page of every news source imaginable.

It appears only a few of us saw the interview. Just to add, I think it was Trey Wingo (or whatever his name is) asked him had he called Levi. And he said no, but he would call to offer his apology. And then said (paraphrasing) 'I'm even saying on national TV that I apologize and want to put this behind us'. He said he was "embarrassed" as well.

But like I said, he was trying to make it out to be no big deal. He talked about his 'face being in the USA Today paper' and that it was 'just a citation..... speeding ticket'. But it was clear he recognized the consequences and had that oh fuck look and sound.
Porter 'sorry' about fight with Jones
BY MARK CURNUTTE | MCURNUTTE@ENQUIRER.COM

Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter said on ESPN today that he hopes to put his fight with Bengals left tackle Levi Jones behind him.

"I wish it never would have happened," Porter said on television this afternoon. "I don't know how Levi feels, but the faster we can get this behind us, (the better).”

Porter said he was in Las Vegas to celebrate his mother's 50th birthday.

Jones was jumped March 18 at the Palms casino by Porter and several associates, Jones said.

Today, Porter said he would like to apologize to Jones.

"I don't mind calling him. If he truly believes, if he feels like I was wrong, I'm sorry," Porter said on ESPN. "I can apologize. I am reaching out now."

The Bengals will end the 2007 regular season at Miami on Dec. 30. Jones has said he is not concerned with facing Porter on the field because he will be focused on blocking Miami defensive end Jason Taylor.

Jones did not immediately answer messages placed on his cell and home phones this afternoon.

“He (Porter) got my attention from the front, and wouldn't get near me until the six guys jumped me from behind, he took part," Jones said April 2, the first day of the Bengals offseason strength and conditioning program. "What started everything was the dude hit me from behind. From then on, I had to protect myself. I was attacked by seven guys. I don't know what man is going to withstand that, especially with an NFL player involved."

Porter was charged with misdemeanor battery and released. He reported to the Dolphins’ offseason program the next day.

Jones said he needed no stitches to close a cut above his left eye. He did not say if he would file a civil suit.

"We'll see how it plays out," he said.

Porter said, "At the end of the day, none of us is going to get anything good out of this."

Police in Las Vegas have yet to release the security tape of the incident because the investigation is ongoing.

On Tuesday, Jones said there was nothing new from his end to discuss about the case.
No doubt that Joey Porter was in full "kiss ass to avoid suspension" mode. I should have mentioned that in my first post. I don't believe for one second he is sorry or embarrassed. He's just saying what he's got to say to attempt to avoid the suspension that I full believe he should get. Even if it wasn't a Bengals player...you just don't gather up a posse and stomp someone. Really, this should be a criminal case as well, but with Levi not pressing charges, it may end up overlooked by the league.

What a joke.

"I wish it never would have happened"

If that's the way you feel, maybe you shouldn't have had your homeboys jump him. That's not something that "just happens."

If Goodell wants to take action against NFL players who are acting like thugs off the field he should start with this piece of shit. But I'm almost positive nothing is going to happen on that front.

I did not put it as eloquent as you did with "kiss ass to avoid suspension", but that sums it up very nicely.

Actually, I found it quite humorous to watch him squirm on national TV. After all he was dubbed "the most feared man in the NFL". What a punk and thug. To reach and mention "I was with my mommy" in that interview was beyond pathetic.

This quote says it all! He does not think he did anything wrong. What a putz!
Maybe, ...then again, ...maybe it was the "steroid fog" that got to him and he can't remember.
