i saw this sign once on someone's yard,
i want that sign, except i wouldn't put that kind of sign on my front yard, my neighbors would probably freak out!
but i do own a 9mm and i keep it in a safe. not even my wife can get in it. i won't risk shit, i have kids and i keep it locked. but i really think that their should be a gun control law, why would someone need to own 10 or 20 guns for ? or a bazooka, or an RPG ?

of course with my line of work I have guns, I am required to carry off duty 24 hours.

when I was new it was cool, I always had a gun concealed,,...but now its more a pain, because when I go to the grocery, I have to make sure I have my gun.

I still carry it, yes I have to, thats part of it, but also, I may have to act in asituation, and the gun is my protection.

My wife carries a gun, and I really dont see anything wrong with it. In 10 years of law enforcement, I have located many guns on criminals. But I have never had a problem with someone who has a legal CCDW license.

Banning guns in my mind is foolish, because criminals dont care about the laws, the only one who suffer from gun control are the citizens

I believe there should be gun control, but not the "round up all the guns and dont let people buy em" type. I am all for background checks (1,000%), a 48 hour (or more even) waiting period, and a bazooka being out of the question for a single citizen (that doesnt protect in the sense of self protection- Unless you are being invaded by a mob or small country)...

I am a concealed carry holder, and I think that the places where we are not allowed to carry pretty much covers the places I dont think people should be able to carry (public venues which serve alcohol, bars/restaurants that serve alcohol, federal property, etc...

I cant remember what all the questions were....

Owning a gun, and especially carrying a gun, means understanding the ramifications of your actions if you are to unholster it, as well as being a responsible owner while your gun(s) are at home (like RUmble said, keeping it in a safe). Its kind of a constant thought process. The worst thing you would ever want to have happen to you is to have to use your gun.

Having and carrying a gun is my choice to protect myself from becoming a victim, as you dont choose when someone decides to make you their latest victim. It happens all the time. Parking lots, parks, downtown, in a store, etc... Crime is usually random, and Im going to do everything I can to protect myself, and perhaps other innocent victims next to me.

The bumper sticker that says "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" is very much true, no matter what side of the fence you are on. As a CCW license holder, it drives me nuts when I go to a store, and right on the door is the sign that says no guns allowed. OK, fine, I dont shop there. But the problem is, is that the sign says to a criminal, "Oh. Since they dont allow the law abiding gun carriers in the store, I could get away with whatever I want in there, no one can possibly stop me"... It puts all of the stores costumers at risk. Those gay signs dont stop criminals with guns from coming in, they stop law abiding citizens from coming in and being able to protect themselves or others. Personally, I just dont shop there. Sofa Express in Rookwood has one of those signs. I went to that store planning on spending around $2000 on a couch set that I wanted to buy that day. I got to the door, sa w the sign, turned around, and they lost out on $2000 and perhaps a customer for life. Because they support criminals and do not allow customers the right to defend themselves in case of an attack.

I dont know about having guns in colleges, I tend to lean heavily towards not allowing it, but imagine there was one CCW holder in that first classroom, or dorm. How many lives could have been saved yesterday had ONE SINGLE person been able to defend themselves? That could happen in a theatre, in Sofa Express, etc... Its an illogical (except maybe colleges) stance by certain business owners.

OK, I remembered a few more questions...
I am all for semi automatic weapons. People misunderstand semi-auto. Except for revolvers, nearly every other gun out there is semi-auto. Save for certain rifles and some shotguns.

Automatic weapons, maybe they shouldnt be around. I dont know. That would only really go back to defending against a mob or small invading country

Clip size shouldnt matter. I can release a clip and have a new one in and ready in 2 seconds. Honestly, clip size doesnt really matter in the grande scheme.

# of guns allowed, I am against. People should be able to buy as many guns as they can. Many people own many guns as a hobby, every gun shoots differently, and each gun is a challenge on the range unto itself.

Registering guns with police... I thought this automatically happened, but I am for this if not.

Anyway, good poll and debate (if it gets going)... Some of the questions are slightly loaded, but the gist is there..

nope brother, I am really a laid back guy. I see alot in my job and over the years. I think more people should have guns,,..

to put it simply, not everyone needs to be packing, but I see no reason why the majority of "normal" u and I americans cant carry a gun,

a little off topic, but the shooting in Virginia tech, what if most of the students had guns?...there wouldn't be 32 dead, after he shot the first girl, he propbably would have been shot by others.

thats just a simplified version of the "gun control" debate, but nope, Im not for gun control. I do like the 3 day waiting list and I am BIG on background checks for guns, thats a must, but after that your good to go.

Why do most of these shootings happen in gun free zones?Because bad guys have no rules or regs or control stopping them. These zones makes for a rich target enviorment with no opposition..Gun control only hurts the good guys. Why is it when all these anti gun people get in trouble and need help, they call men with guns...
This poll was missing one interesting question, imo...

Should non-citizens be able to own/carry guns while in the US? I was shocked to find out that someone with a green card could legally own a gun, myself.
dont take this wrong UK, its not against you, but I dont think non US citizens should carry. IMO

as for the # of guns, there should be no limit, In my younger days I collected guns, I used to love to shoot, I have about 15 guns now, but they are too expensive, so I havent bought one in years

Yep... Its like all of the people in the bad neighborhoods always belittling cops for "harrassing them" or arresting them/questioning them, etc... But when something happens that they dont like, who are the first people they turn to when they are in need? Yep, cops.

But I dont want to get started on that debate, I want to stick with the gun control debate...

Four Combat Camera Sailors Awarded Bronze Star
Story Number: NNS070112-17
Release Date: 1/12/2007 6:02:00 PM

By Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Joseph R. Wax, Fleet Public Affairs Center Atlantic

NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Four Sailors attached to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) Detachment Combat Camera Norfolk were honored with the Bronze Star in a ceremony Jan. 9 for the unique things they bring to the fight in the war on terror.

Chief Mass Communications Specialist Tom Jones, Mass Communications Specialist 1st Class(SW/AW) Steven W. Harbour, Mass Communications Specialist 1st Class(SW) Jackey J. Bratt, and Mass Communications Specialist 1st Class David W. Hoffman, were awarded the Bronze Star by Rear Adm. James Barnett, deputy commander NECC, for the work they did while deployed to Iraq.

The awards were earned not only for the work they did with their cameras, but also for their ability to pick up a weapon or administer first aid at a moment's notice.

In Hoffman’s case, while involved in the security of a disabled vehicle, the Humvee he was in was engaged by an enemy sniper. After the gunner of the vehicle was wounded, Hoffman remained calm and helped administer first-aid. Despite the hostile situations he encountered, Hoffman was able to capture more than 172 hours of video from more than 25 missions.

“One of the things we look for them to do is to produce product that can be used operationally,” stated Barnett. “But they also have to return fire when they are under fire.”

This is exactly what Bratt did during an early morning dismounted patrol Aug. 13. After taking fire from insurgents, Bratt took immediate and responsive action, defending her fellow service members and Iraqi soldiers. Her actions enabled them to remount their armored vehicles and finish the operation. Bratt’s courage was evident as she continued to capture imagery of the combat action during this time period.

There is a fine line between when to shoot images and when to shoot bullets that Combat Camera personnel have to learn to negotiate.

“It becomes instinctive, when we need to drop our cameras and fire back,” said Hoffman.
Like a lot of people forward deployed, being under fire is just another part of the job for the members of Combat Camera.

“When you are faced with a life and death situation you find out what you are really made of,” said Harbour. “There is nothing glamorous or cool about combat. The feeling is intense and it is scary.”

Combat Camera Norfolk members attach to every kind of forward deployed unit. Whether it is with an Army infantry unit or a Marine reconnaissance team, their primary goal is to document anything and everything they can.

“You have to always think big picture,” said Harbour. “All these photos get looked at for training. The Military Transition Team would watch videos to critique how the Iraqi army was responding to training. We document the protection of civilians, and show the difficulty of the missions. We documented the Iraqi army providing assistance to the people.”

Specifically, Harbour recorded a six-day air assault of approximately 300 buildings in Baghdad, going without food or water for a period of 26 hours. In a separate incident, Harbour documented the Marine 2nd Air Naval Gunfire Liason Company as they coordinated an air strike. His footage of the laser-guided missile destroying the target was aired on CBS and the Pentagon Channel.

Mission effectiveness and strategic planning wasn’t the only thing getting documented.

“My sole job is to document the great things they (troops) are doing,” said Bratt.

The faceplate of the Navy is the fleet, but throughout the history of the United States, Sailors have been a part of the combat operations ashore.

“The Navy is about ships, submarines, and planes, but for more than 200 years we have had to project that power, that sea power, ashore,” said Barnett. “Combat Camera has been in some pretty hard places, doing some pretty hard things, under fire for some time.”

Combat is a large part of being in Combat Camera, but besides medals there are other rewards.

“One thing I will never forget is the relationships you form going out on missions,” stated Bratt. “I worked with Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, but they were all my shipmates.”

The troops that Combat Camera members end up fighting along side aren’t a part of the story; they are the story.

“I have seen incredible acts of bravery that you don’t even think could be in a person,” said Harbour. “The fight shouldn’t be glamorized, but the people should be.”

Ultimately that is what Combat Camera is all about, not only documenting for training or strategy, but also capturing the amazing acts being performed by Sailors, Soldiers, Airman, Marines, and Coast Guardsman on a daily basis. The awarding of the Bronze Star to Jones, Bratt, Harbour, and Hoffman allowed these particular camera wielding Sailors their rightful turn in front of the lens.
