Pollack Expected To Miss 2007 Bengals Season

While golfing in Georgia, Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis paused before one of the holes, and provided a health update on LB David Pollack, who played his college ball for the Georgia Bulldogs. "This year, David probably will not be able to play football this season but they haven't ruled out football in David's future," Lewis said. Pollack broke his neck in the second game of the 2006 season, missed the rest of the year, and required surgery to repair the damage. Fortunately, the Bengals 1st Round pick in 2005 was not paralyzed in the collision, and there's still a chance he might return for the '08 season. "At some point, he'll have a decision to make whether to continue his football future. But right now he's progressing great, working out like a maniac about 20 hours a day, so he's doing great."
VIDEO: Marvin Lewis-- David Pollack Unlikely To Play This Year
Coach Marvin Lewis speaking on the Bengals 2005 first round pick who broke his neck early last season.

The video lasts about 20 seconds and Marvin just says what he is quoted as saying above and nothing more . . .
Lewis doesn't look for Pollack to play in 2007

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told The Enquirer this week that he does not expect linebacker David Pollack to play football this season.

Even if Pollack were to resume his pro football career in the future, he will need the additional time to strengthen and rebuild his body. Pollack was incapacitated for several months after suffering a fractured C-6 vertebrae during the second game of the Bengals' 2006 season.

Pollack wore a protective halo device to stabilize his neck and underwent surgery.

Lewis said the Bengals would likely make an official statement about theirs and Pollack's plans and decision regarding the 2007 season once training camp opens later this month.
Kinda sounds like hes planning on coming back if he's really working out that much...could this be the reason Smith didnt get a long term deal? Maybe they plan on putting DP at end again? Didnt Pollack say somewhere that if he came back he'd prefer to play end?

I've read multiple times where Pollack keeps talking about DE... and then where Marvin insists he's a LB. I have no clue, and right now, heck, he can't even play football at all, so I think positioning is irrelevant at this time.
good, maybe we don't have to hear anything about him for awhile.
Someone piss in your cereal this morning? :P
He cannot come back and be effective as a linebacker IMO......mental hurdle will be too great. As a DE, he could be close to where he was before the injury so if he comes back, I would like to see him at DE.
the goal is to upgrade from justin, not downgrade. i wish he'd just retire.

You can still upgrade from Justin and have Pollack in as situational pass rusher/DE rotation to keep guys fresh. He's pretty cheap comparitvely and if he reaches close to his potential, he would be a nice pass rusher to have in there. He's relentless when healthy.

He will not be an upgrade, he is injury prone and just not that good anyway. He needs to start a church and preach and not take up any roster spot on the Bengals ever again.

Wrong yet again.

In the three games against pissburgh, he was easily the best defensive player on the team. Hell, he was the only defender who showed anything in the playoff game. On a team desperate for leaders, he was already one. Last spring, in addition to all of his other workouts, he hired himself a nutritionist. This spring Ahmad Brooks went and followed his example. Pollack was an excellent pick for the Bengals, and I expect him to prove it over the long haul. I not only think he will play in '08, but play very well.

I agree, he should quit wasting his and the Bengals time and hang it up.

Wasting his time?

David was one of the best pass all around ends in the SEC. David could bulk up to 275 and be a good pass rusher and could probably play the run pretty well...i don't see why they moved him anyways with that kinda quickness and that weight anyways. The guy probably loves football more then any other guy on the team and he probably wont give up something he has been doing since he was 6. He has one of the best motors on the team as well..he would be a good replacement for justin because he is quick and knows some moves i.e the texans game.

And he will be back next year.

Not wasting his time but wasting the Bengals time, even if he was to recover enough to play football he would be a broken neck and 2 years removed from playing, of course he wants to collect a paycheck as long as he can but the odds of him ever being effective are slim to none so he should just quit wasting the Bengals time.

I agree Storm. I see Pollack and Perry as the same, wasting roster spaces on the team. They are fragile and should be playing Madden not NFL football.
