Not wasting his time but wasting the Bengals time, even if he was to recover enough to play football he would be a broken neck and 2 years removed from playing, of course he wants to collect a paycheck as long as he can but the odds of him ever being effective are slim to none so he should just quit wasting the Bengals time.
since when do you care about the bengals time?

and him hagning it up and taking an injury settlement would cost the team more than his measly contract ever will, the way its going now is the best way for both parties, its only the fans that drub it up every few weeks.

as for him playing end, what he did in the SEC is all but pointless, he hasnt palyed end in several years, this is the nfl, he would be less successful as an end, he was switched to LB for a reason, he wont be playing end, he is a LB, he was drafted to be a LB, thats all he will ever be here.
I agree Storm. I see Pollack and Perry as the same, wasting roster spaces on the team. They are fragile and should be playing Madden not NFL football.
they arent using any roster spaces. what are you even talking about? they both count ZERO to the active roster. and are both cheaper to keep than settle with.

I can agree on Perry, but Pollack still has a couple of chances left IF he can come back in 2008 and IF the coaches think he can be effective.
Bengals' Pollack shelved for season
By D.Laurant on July 12, 2007 07:46 PM

The Cincinnati Bengals announced today that LB David Pollack, the team's No. 1 draft choice in 2005, will be forced to sit out the 2007 season to further heal a serious neck injury.

Pollack fractured his C-6 vertebrae while tackling Reuben Droughns of the Cleveland Browns on the second play of the second game of the 2006 season. He suffered no paralysis and was able to remove a protective halo in December, but team doctors and other physicians determined that it would be too soon for the 6-foot-2, 255-pound University of Georgia product to try to play this season.

Pollack said he would continue his rehabilitation with an eye toward 2008.

As a rookie in 2005, Pollack started five games for Cincinnati and perhaps peaked in the team's first-round playoff game against pissburgh, recording 10 tackles and a sack of Ben Roethlisberger.

Commentary: Another example of how the best-laid NFL plans can go wrong. Cincinnati saw Pollack as a leader on its defense for years to come, with a contract to match. Then, one fluke injury on a routine play, and it may have all fallen apart.

Fantasy Impact: Very little, because the Bengal coaches didn't hold out much hope of Pollack playing this year.
A guy puts everything on the line for the team you root for every day and gets hurt... and then you guys basically say can the guy and move on (without any time to even prove he could still play, he is STILL injured). This is not a Chris Perry deal where he has had multiple chances to prove he can stay healthy. Kind of shitty if you ask me...

Hopefully he comes back and makes a full recovery and you guys will be forced to cheer him on.

How quickly have you forgotten how good of a player he was and could still be... is the video of Pollack double spinning on a lineman still floating around here?

Yeah, this ain't the soup kitchen, if you can play then step up, if you can't then take your small fortune you made on your signing bonus and move on.

However I forgive him for holding out for more money
the goal is to upgrade from justin, not downgrade. i wish he'd just retire.
This is a guy that missed all of his rookie training camp, and was switching positions.
Keeping the above in mind, after 16 games, you have come to the conclusion that Pollack
won`t get or be any better than he was ? Ummmmm . . . OK.
He will not be an upgrade, he is injury prone and just not that good anyway. He needs to start a church and preach and not take up any roster spot on the Bengals ever again.
Injury prone ? I guess Carson is injury prone too then ?
I agree, he should quit wasting his and the Bengals time and hang it up.
Pollack was a 3 time All-American in College (only the 2nd player in Georgia`s history to do so)
and he won the 2002 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Award, the 2004 Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award, the 2004 Chuck Bednarik Award: given annually to the top collegiate defensive player, 2003 and 2004 Ted Hendricks Award: given annually to the top collegiate defensive end,
2004 Lombardi Award: given annually to the top defensive or offensive collegiate lineman who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi, and
2004 Lott Trophy: given annually to a defensive player exemplifying integrity, maturity, performance,
academics, community, and tenacity.

Yeah the the Bengals should quit wasting their time on such a player. Do I really have
to post a rolling eyes smiley ?

Pollack is the kind of player this team, let alone this Defense, lacks.
He is a leader, he has great character, maturity, integrity, tenacity, work ethic and heart.
Hell, he was hurt making a tackle for the Bengals !

You`d think Bengals fans would be cheering for and supporting this guy with every striped
cell in their body. Not dogging on him and/or wishing he would retire.

M`eh, to each his own I guess . . .

David Pollack's contract guaranteed $7.65 million. The guy drafted before him made 7.8 and the guy after him was 7.6, both signed way before Pollack. He was slotted, there was no way around it. I don't think it was about the money...

Also,

I found this here:

"At issues wasn't necessarily the dollars, but certain contract language Cincy considers standard issue, including Marvin Lewis' 100-percent off-season attendance clause."

haha i wish i knew that.

But i no a relative of his, believe it or not. And she told me earlier that he was working his way back to playing. So take it with a grain of salt if you would like..but im pretty certain davey will be wearing 99 again.
comment_510256
He will be wearing 99 while sitting on his couch playing Madden. Keep this thread, but Pollack has zero % chance of playing for the Bengals ever again. No matter how much the Pollack apologist ant him out there, it ain't going to happen. Just like come week 8 Perry won't be playing. He gonna have a cramp that moves him to IR for rest of the year.

Lewis not expecting LB to be ready to play after neck injury
BY MARK CURNUTTE | MCURNUTTE@ENQUIRER.COM

As the Bengals await word on linebacker Odell Thurman's eligibility, the 2007 status of linebacker David Pollack is becoming clearer.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis told The Enquirer this week that he doesn't expect Pollack to play football this season.

Pollack was incapacitated for several months after suffering a fracture of his C-6 vertebra during the Bengals' second game of the 2006 season. Pollack wore a protective halo device to stabilize his neck and underwent surgery.

Even if Pollack were to resume his pro football career in the future, he would need the additional time to strengthen and rebuild his body.

Lewis said the Bengals probably would make an official statement about the team's and Pollack's plans regarding the 2007 season once training camp opens July 26.

Meanwhile, a league spokesman on Thursday said no timetable would be announced related to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's decision on Thurman.

Thurman, who led the Bengals with 148 tackles as a rookie in 2005, was suspended for one season for three violations of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. The third offense was a DUI, and Thurman completed extensive alcohol rehabilitation during the offseason, admitting in a Hamilton County court that he was an alcoholic.

During Thurman's rehab in South Carolina, Lewis, linebackers coach Ricky Hunley and assistant strength coach Ray Oliver all visited.

Thurman has been working out and took a construction job in his native Monticello, Ga., to support his family. He weighs 238 pounds, just two pounds over his listed playing weight.

He remains under contract for the next three seasons, at original contract base salaries of $406,250, $478,750 and $551,250 - all of which will be slightly higher to meet NFL minimum salaries adjusted during March 2006 when the collective bargaining agreement was restructured and extended.

Additionally, word from the Bengals this week is not to expect any rookie draft picks to sign before the weekend. Those contracts, especially with the later-round picks, should start trickling in next week.
Kokaine, I know it makes you bitter when the white guys who don't get into trouble get some love, but if you are gonna be a hater please state some basis for your argument. There is absolutely NOTHING to back up what you are saying other than your hopes that one of the most physically talented players ever to wear the Bengals uniform will fail. Other players have returned from serious neck injuries to have good NFL careers. Travis Henry had a spinal cord contusion in college and it never slowed him down. I've seen other cases cited in threads like this also, but I can't remember them all right now. Pollack is no more "injury prone" than TJ or Carson.

Pollack is a physical freak. At the NFL combine when he still weighed about 270 he ran the short shuttle FASTER THAN ANY DEFENSIVE BACK. As has already been mentioned in an earlier post he was one of the most decorated defensive players in NCAA HISTORY. As a rookie he moissed all of training camp, learned a new position and still was the best defensive player on the field for the Bengals at the end of the season. He had 6 tackles for loss in his last seven games and was the ONLY Bengal defensive player to show up in the playoffs (8 tkls, 1 sack). Pollack could be the key to the Bengals success on defense for years to come.

There is absolutely NO EVIDENCE that Pollack won't return and be a star player. Anyone who wishes otherwise is just putting their petty personal preferences ahead of their desire for the Bengals to be a great team. Marvin moved Peter Boulware from DE to LB when he came into the NFL and got 53 sacks out of him in his first five seasons. Pollack is about the same size as Boulware and MUCH quicker. So who WOULDN'T want a player like that on our defense?

Brooks, Thurman, Hartwell, Jeanty. Pollack did like one thing and everyone thinks he is some stud now. madeiu has had more good games and we never hear his praise anymore. Also pollack isnt even smart enough to avoid tackling with his face/neck.
