Pollack did like one thing and everyone thinks he is some stud now. madeiu has had more good games and we never hear his praise anymore. Also pollack isnt even smart enough to avoid tackling with his face/neck.
Brooks hasnt done anything worth noting yet, Hartwell has been injured as much as pollack as the past 2 years, Jeanty has less sacks or tackels than Landon Johnson. Odell maybe. So again, just stop. Your a known hater, objectivity on this topic isnt something you have shown you can do.

I thought you needed to read this again . . .

You`d think Bengals fans would be cheering for and supporting this guy with every striped
cell in their body. Not dogging on him and/or wishing he would retire. It costs us nothing
to root for Pollack. His success equals Bengals success. Anyone that wishes for anything
other than Pollack`s return, and to be the player the Bengals hoped he would be when they
drafted him, is just putting their petty personal preferences ahead of their desire for the
Bengals to be a great team.

But...

What has Pollack done worth noting?

He may be a hater, but he does have some valid points ...

EDIT: And i don't wish for Pollack to retire. I liked him as a player. I think if he could come back it would only be a bonus for this team. However, he did show promise of being good, but I dont think he ever did anything to say he was good... make sense?
he isnt better than justin and all we need is another overrated DE. no thanks. i dont want the guy to stay hurt or anything, i just really dont want him to play for us anymore. he can play elsewhere.
not only would it be classless to cut pollack after all that has happened, it would also be dumb... chances are that he will never be the same player, but if any player could come back from such a serious injury, they would have to have the personality and determination that pollack possess... in other words, there is a decent chance that he could come back... add on the fact that it would cost a lot of money to cut him in the first place, why would we cut him? not to save money... we can ir him so it won't take a roster spot...

it seems to me that if we drop him, there is no upside... and if we keep him we have a chance to get him back (and a healthy pollack should make anyone nut in their drawers) at little risk...

what reasoning do you have to cut pollack at this point?
because everyone in this thread is talking about him at DE. and there are 4 LBs on this team better than him.
he isn't just a linebacker, he is a SAM LB... jeanty and landon are his only competetion actually...

as a rookie, he showed that he had great moves to get to the qb, needs to work harder in pass coverage, showed that he was one hell of a tackler, smart enough to play a brand new position in the nfl, and he is a playmaker as he showed in the playoffs and the few games before that...

i'm not saying that he is a guarenteed star, but i think that he showed us enough to say that he has a massive amount of potential...
About as much as heartwell has the past two years.
Hartwell: 13 games played, 63 tackles, 1 sack
Pollack: 16 games played (was hurt on the 2nd play of the 16th game), 29 tackles, 4.5 sacks.
He didn`t start against the Cheifs and recorded no stats.

Pollack was a rookie who missed his entire training camp, and was switching positions.
Hartwell had already played 4 seasons in the NFL, and was playing a position that
racks up tackling stats . . .

Oh and just for fun . . .
Jeanty: 12 games played in the NFL, 59 tackles, 0 sacks.
Ahmad Brooks: 11 games played, 31 tackles, 1 sack.

The only thing that I don't get is that Marvin may be premature in this announcemnet (unless the doctor's are telling him to scrap Pollack for 2007). If Pollack is working out "20 Hours" a day, why not wait until the end of pre-season for this announcement. If Pollack thinks he can practice with the team during mini-camp, let him. Then see if he should go on the PUP list for 6 weeks, re-evaluate the situation at that time, and then let him play or put him on IR. He won't be taking up a roster spot at all in this situation, unless Pollack can play/practice starting in mid-October.

I think they are just being safe because of the type of injury.
comment_510441
Pollack has the heart and drive to make it back from his injury....

I would presume that AFTER he gets his body into shape he'll sit down with his doctor and family and discuss the ramifications of playing again....

If the injury is completely healed and he has no less a chance of hurting it again anymore than if the injury never occured I'd say his love of the game will over ride any thoughts of retirement prematurely.

At this point its hard to make a call of just how good he could be.. Never saw enough of him to really say.
He does bring an attitude that can be infecteous to the huddle though...
Regardless of his ability noone ever said he didnt play with passion or energy ..

Hope he continues to rehab and give it another try in 08.....

he showed he had great moves? a fuckin spin is a great move now? rudi does that a lot now, maybe we should put him on the defense (he does stuff at the line pretty well  )

also Reinard Wilson showed some great moves in 2001.

they played completely different roles. pollack cant cover anyone worth a shit and BLEW complete ass against the run. all they ever seemed to do was blitz him cuz it was the only thing he was capable of doing well. jeanty dropped in coverage a lot and if u really believe pollack is better than brooks then you should sell what you are smoking because it will give you some real nice profits.
ok and he has had a longer chance to do so right?
and one of those reasons is cuz he can tackle intelligently.

LMFAO ! I can`t believe you brought Jeff Blake and Reinard Wilson into the conversation !
Then talk about people playing completely different roles . . .

Like I said, Pollack missed his entire training camp, and was switching positions.
Yet he STARTED in the Playoff Game, had 10 tackles, and 1 sack.

If he sucked as bad as YOU think he does, he wouldn`t have even been drafted.
This team has a great track record for drafting talent in the 1st round the past few years.
Give your hatred a rest . . . and sell me some of what you`re smoking . . .
Bengals: Pollack out for '07

July 13, 2007

Posted: 1:20 p.m.

The Bengals issued a statement Friday stating that linebacker David Pollack is not expected to play during the 2007 season as a result of a neck fracture he suffered September 17 in a game against the Cleveland Browns at Paul Brown Stadium.

He missed the remainder of the 2006 season, and he underwent surgery to repair the fracture on January 3 of this year. His recovery is ongoing.

“David and the team agree that he is not physically ready to play this season,” said head coach Marvin Lewis in the statement. “He is working extremely hard and will continue focusing his efforts on rehabilitating with our medical staff.”

No roster move is necessary at this point regarding Pollack. He currently is among 81 signed players on the team's offseason roster.

Pollack suffered the neck injury Sept. 17 as he made a hit on Cleveland running back Reuben Droughns. Pollack suffered no paralysis from the injury. He was quickly able to resume normal activities outside of football, though he spent much of the fall and winter wearing a neck immobilization device, which he no longer requires.

Pollack, from the University of Georgia, was the Bengals' top draft choice in 2005, selected 17th overall. He played in 14 games with five starts as a rookie, and was limited to two games last season.

“I'm grateful for my recovery to this point, and I'm working every day to get my full strength back,” Pollack said. “Any final decision on football is still down the road for me."
Jeff Blake had minimal success on a bad TEAM, nobody here has said Pollack is what is keeping us from winning a superbowl, simply that he had/has alot of potental to be our Peter Boulware, based on his measureables. Boulware was a pretty damn good backer.

A fuckin spin move gets Freeny all sorts of praise, hell they did a feature on it on ESPN. A feature on ONE SINGLE MOVE.

Odell is too small to play sam.

Nobody said Pollack was better than Brooks, they said to date that HE HAS DONE LESS than Pollack.

jeff blake made it to a pro bowl didnt he? i wouldnt call that minimal success.

bouleware could do more than just run at a QB.

freeney does it against teams better than houston, day in and day out.

odell can play it.

so you admit they think brooks is better?

Your hater nature gets the better of you on this topic.

Pollack had never played LB before, there is a learning curve, when it comes to learning coverage when you have never done that. Boleware in his rookie year had ZERO passes defended and ZERO ints. Pollack "who cant cover anyone" at least had one pass defended.

Do you even know what a sam backer does in Marvin's D? You really think Odell can put his arm down and act as a DE? Give me a break.

IF Hobson's articles are to be believed then Brooks would have been a top pick in the first round this year. I think he will be good, but he hasnt done more than Pollack has YET.

Just stop.

Okay, then you tell the basis for your dislike of POllack?

At 270 pounds he was still quicker than DBs.

He was the most dominating defensive player in nation playing against the toughest competition in the NCAA.

He has never been in trouble in his life.

He missed all of training camp, moved to a new position, and was still one of our better defensive players by the end of his rookie season. (6 TFL in last 7 games, 8 tkls and a sack against Steelers in playoff game)

So explain to me why exactly it is that you are so eager to write him off? His potential is unlimited. Why would ANY Bengal fan not be drooling at the prospect of seeing what he can do when he is 100% healthy with a full seasons experience under his belt. Your denial means nothing unless you can give another explanation.
comment_510656

I don't see that Pollack has any potential. He hasn't proven anything. And he hasn't shown that he was anything special playing in the NFL. We have seen him 100% healthy and he hasn't impressed me. He has never played at a extraordinary level and will not ever again play at the mediocre level he played at when healthy. He is done, over sit him out for pasture. Why you think that has something to do with race says something about you , was very telling.

You can't make anyone like Pollack, nor can you make him better than he was.. it don't work like that. I wish him well in life, and he may play football again, but not with the Bengals.
