They are if you're more of an "effect drinker" than a "flavor" one....and even then, American microbrews are accomplishing in twenty years what the famed breweries of Europe have been doing for centuries...this is one area where American ingenuity has certainly taken a foothold and therefore lessened the prices of imported beers that we can now readily imitate.

They're just not as expensive as I have to pay, I guess <_<

Are there any Austrian beers there? Stiegl, Ottakringer, Edelweiss?

Beer is for the most part "regionalized" in Germany. I can get a few national brands (Bitburger, Krombacher, Becks), but local brands from other regions aren't easy to come by -- especially so for imported beer. I have had Stiegl in Austria, though, and it's pretty pleasant.

If you ever see Augustiner beer anywhere, buy a bottle. Any style. Fantastic stuff.

Truer words were never spoken. However, when buying beer in the US that isn't BudMillOors, always, always, always hold the bottle up to the light and look for sediment (I call it gark) on the bottom. With some beers this is normal (Weissbier, for example), but usually this means the beer is too old to be enjoyed.

You can be both, Bung -- I certainly am! As much as I advocate these European brews, it is more environmentally and economically responsible to drink/eat locally produced products. This means you should run to the Party Source right now and pick up some Barrelhouse beer. Last time I had their Dortmunder it was exceptional.

I was totally thinking of bumping this thread the other day.

Did I really just use totally? What am I, in a John Hughes 80s film?

WHAT CAUSES ARTHRITIS????

A drunken man who smelled like beer sat down on a subway next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and
a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading.

After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked,’ Say Father, what causes arthritis?'
The priest replies, 'My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol, contempt for your fellow man,
sleeping around with prostitutes and lack of a bath.

The drunk muttered in response,’ Well, I'll be damned, 'Then returned to his paper.

The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. 'I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?'

The drunk answered, 'I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does.

Tebow a Jet. N Korea hates us. And Manti Te'o is gay.

That's about it.
A man escapes from prison where he has been for 15 years. He breaks into a house to look for money and guns and finds a young couple in bed.

He orders the guy out of bed and ties him to a chair, while tying the girl to the bed he gets on top of her, kisses her neck, then gets up and goes into the bathroom.

While he's in there, the husband tells his wife:

"Listen, this guy's an escaped convict, look at his clothes! He probably spent lots of time in jail and hasn't seen a woman in years. I saw how he kissed your neck. If he wants sex, don't resist, don't complain, do whatever he tells you. Satisfy him no matter how much he nauseates you. This guy is probably very dangerous. If he gets angry, he'll kill us. Be strong, honey. I love you."

To which his wife responds:

"He wasn't kissing my neck. He was whispering in my ear. He told me he was gay, thought you were cute, and asked me if we had any vaseline. I told him it was in the bathroom. Be strong honey. I love you too!!"
