Nati Ice
so i bet a friend $50 i could do more continuous pushups than him and am currently looking for a workout plan to increase my reps over the course of the next few weeks. i have little reservation about him taking this seriously so i want to do the same and embarrass him even further. i am by no means the incridible hulk but from what google has shown me the only programs designed for pushup improvement were intended for 300 pound men with 40% body fat. i did a drunken semi-legit 68 if that matters. id prefer a routine someone has either already tried or can confirm works through someone else if at all possible. help, anyone? MULLY
Start doing sets with numbered reps. Do a set of 12 then 10 then 8 then 6 and finish it off with another 12. Take a 1 minute break between each set. When you get past the initial torment of those sets, say after a week or 2, then you can begin doing them with your legs up on a chair or something like that. Trust me, you don't need to do a billion push ups at once to get the benefits from them. Start doing sets like this and within a few weeks you'll probably be able to pound out quite a few at one time. I would also suggest having a day off between your workouts. Give the muscles healing time. You may want to do them Mon., Wed., and Fri. and take the weekend off. One of the most important parts of building muscle is giving them sufficient time to rest up between work outs. Think of your muscles like a building. When an earthquake (workout) strikes the building (body) gets damaged. The repair crews (proteins, rest etc...) come in to rebuild the building. If another earthquake comes along too soon the building will be compromised. Let the workers do what they need to do before that second earthquake comes along. The building will be much stronger the next time around. MULLY

Especially on the way down. It's amazing what that does for the effectiveness of the excercize. I did 100 jackknife situps the other day, so slowly that it took 10 minutes to complete the set. The intensity is crazy at that point. and the results can come quickly. If you then rest as Mully suggests. Good luck. let us know how it goes. The Scales
When it comes to a pissing contest involving push-ups, the barrel chested backstops with truncated arms have a deciided advantage vs. the long armed ectomorphs.

CatScratchFever
Since you made the bet while drunk, you should each have to do the push-ups drunk, too. Chug a beer after each set of 10 or something.
