Anyone watch the 4x100 mens swimming thing, french were talking shit to us, and then were beating us and our anchor came in and made a sweet comeback in the final like 10 meters and we won and went nuts.

I hate swimming but it was awesome, even i was jumping out of my seat.

I'm an olympics junkie, and that was a good a finish as I've ever seen. Stupid frenchie looked over to see how close the race was and lost concentration while the US swimmer beat him to the wall.

Amazing race, first for the finish... and the fact that in the first leg, the Aussie swimmer broke the WR for 100m by a chunk, and 3 or 4 teams *each* beat the old WR for the 4x100 overall. I think the US reset the WR by over 2 seconds. Truly an epic race.

Now if you'll 'scuse me, I'm watching women's beach volleyball B)

History repeated itself: you may recall that prior to the 2000 Sydney Games, America had never lost the men's 4x100 relay, and American Gary Hall, Jr was running his mouth, saying that the Aussies will be "smashed like guitars." And, naturally, the Australians won. Now, Alain Bernard says virtually the same thing with the same result.

Apparently, swimmers just love using the word "smash" in their pompous declarations.

I'm enjoying listening to all of the moaning and groaning about the fakery of the opening ceremonies. While we were watching I told the Mrs "that little girl lip syncs almost as well as Ashlee Simpson". Guess I was right ^_^
LIN MIAOKE, 9, the Chinese girl in the red dress who captured the world's hearts when she sang solo during the Olympic opening ceremony, is the hottest child star on the planet.

However, the voice the world heard singing so sweetly was not Lin's. It was a pre-recording of another child, Yang Peiyi, 7, who was dropped from the opening ceremony at the last minute in the "national interest". The switch happened at the behest of a member of China's politburo.
They're whining here on the nightly news about the CGI fireworks shown on TV, too, but I thought that was obvious. (during the "flyover", for lack of a better way of putting it)

They're taking advantage of any excuse to make the Chinese look bad, I guess. Every other minute it seems the local coverage is making a comparison to the Sydney games in 2000.. I guess they don't want the locals to think they've been shown up by the Chinese.

If those are the weight lifter, I'd rather not see them.

According to the local news today, the performers were required to train 16 hours a day for the Tai Chi routine, someone was paralyzed in an accident, and many of them had to wear adult diapers.

Yeah, apparently this woman fell and was paralyzed during rehearsals, and she had to lay in a heap on the ground for 50 minutes because they weren't allowing any medical personnel or ambulances through security since they would blow the precious secrecy of the opening ceremony. Then, naturally, they declared that the woman had broken her leg and was recovering well, and only changed their tune when outed again by a British newspaper.

Because we have human rights laws and such that will not allow such hard work. And last I read in a post on this forum in the Dubya threads, Democrats took credit for that one.
