Enemy Watch: Cleveland's defense tonight...

I only watched the Sportscenter highlights, but they made it look like Cleveland's defense totally fell apart against Eli Manning with no receivers?
If this is true, I can't wait to see what Palmer and the boys do to Cleveland's secondary this year.

Also, any word on how serious Derek Anderson's concussion is?

They gave up 30 points in the first quarter with their first teamers in. They looked a lot worse than us.

we'll be able to pass on them all day this year, even moreso than usual

we sweep them and the ravens and split with the steelers and we're in the playoffs... i like our chances

OMG, TheBeaverHunter making an uninformed statement to bash the Bengals? I never thought I'd see the day!

You obviously did not watch this game.

They did look bad. They had their starting OL (atleast Steinbach and Thomas which is all that matters) in the whole half and they were abused by the Giants. Their corners (McDonald and Wright) were in the whole half too and looked lost. Rogers was out but Williams (the other big addition) was stiffeld all half.

I'm preaching in the other thread not to take pre-season seriously so you can't read too far into it. Bringing Rogers back, adding Braylon and a couple scheme changes could right the ship pretty quickly.

But it was nice to hear the announcing crew immediatley turn on the Browns and wonder "is this a preview of whats to come in their 5 primetime games!?!?!"

I would put money down that it is ;)

I am not uninformed and I did watch the game, so you my friend, are uniformed.

If you think we have looked better than Cleveland you are wrong. If you think OUR preseason doesn't matter you are wrong. Teams like Dallas, Pats, and Indy can breeze through the preseason and not win a game and it doesn't matter because they still have their swagger and know what they can do. When you have had two seasons like we have and need to build continuity then you can use the preseason to kind of gauge your season. Right now it isn't looking too good, our cornerstones look weak.

So Wright & McDonald have looked better than Joseph & Hall? The crackhead has looked better than Perry? Anderson better than Palmer (ok, that one's debatable)? The clowns racked up 98 yds in penalties IN THE FIRST QUARTER!! I may be a bit of a homer, but it doesn't take much to realize that the clowns starters sucked to the highest degree last night. If that had been us instead, many on this board would be slitting their wrists and proclaiming the end of the world.

Kind of my thoughts as well. That was an aweful performance.

Also got me thinking that if our O-line doesn't improve it's play, we might as well play Fitzgerald against the Giants and let him run for his life instead of getting Palmer killed. :)

I think the Oline will be fine, the Lions were doing stunts and other things normally not done in the preseason. Ill worry about it once we start gameplanning against other teams. This week is dress rehearsal week. Lets see how things go then.

I mentioned this in another thread, but it bears repeating. Against Detroit, the OLine actually played very well with Bluto under center on the first 2 drives. The problems didn't start until Bobbie went under center on drive 3, and well they took their lumps with Bobbie seeing his first in-game snaps at center. The starting Oline lineup was fine when they were in.

The starting Olineup also kept Palmer virtually spotless against a better green bay D. They'll be fine.

BULLSHIT they even had a punt blocked by their own man.

I looked at both of our first half stats and compared. Their offense is better than our "high powered" offense and their defense is worse than our bad D. We will see if this carries through to the reg season.

Here is what the stats are

first half Off. points

Browns = 31
Bengals = 24

first half Def. points allowed

Browns = 40
Bengals = 17

I didn't know there would be so many whiney ass nitpickers when I said no worse than ours. What I meant by that is we are in no position to be talking shit about other teams, when our team looks like shit. That being said I really do think our team looks no better than the Browns. Only difference is they are coming off of a good season with no turmoil and we are coming off a bad season with a fair share of turmoil. I would rather be in their position than ours.

Not trying to nit-pick, but I have to disagree. Yes the browns have added talent via FA, but they also gave up allot (Leigh Bodden...draft picks) to get it. Their secondary is going to be their achilles heal, and teams will exploit this like Manning & Hixon did last night. I see the '08 browns allot like the '06 Bengals. The media is riding their jock (Kornholio called them the chic pick last night). They're flying under no-one's radar this year. They're expected to win, and they're going to get plenty of national exposure. I think that's going to be too much for them to handle ala the '06 Bengals. The Bengals OTH, aren't expected to do dick. Nobody's picking them to win anything at this point. There's no outside pressure, hence they can just go out and concentrate on playing football without having the distraction of all the expectations. Talent-wise, I think both teams are pretty equal. I just see the browns folding under the pressure.

I see where you are coming from and I think this is where we see just how good of a coach Romeo is. Marvin has proved to not be able to rally the troops when needed. Not bashing Marvin, it's just this team has the makings to be in flux this season with the grumblings going on.
(KFFL) Jamison Hensley, of The Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said there is a chance FS Ed Reed (shoulder) could miss Week 1 because of a shoulder injury. "I think it's a little more slow progress than we all thought it was going to be," Harbaugh said. "Maybe Ed had a sense of that at one time because he's the guy that feels it. We're still optimistic that he'll be there the first week but I don't think you can say 'definitely' right now."

CRIBBS HAS HIGH ANKLE SPRAIN
Posted by Mike Florio on August 19, 2008, 8:54 p.m.
An MRI has revealed that Browns receiver Josh Cribbs has a high ankle sprain, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cribbs likely will miss the final two preseason games. Syndric Steptoe will replace Cribbs as the team’s kick return specialist.

Whether Cribbs is ready for Week One remains to be seen. High ankle sprains can take awhile to come around, and less than three weeks likely won’t be enough time to get Cribbs back to 100 percent.
Its hard to rally the troops when they have broken legs and necks.

Sorry, I guess I completely missed where we gave up 23 points in the first quarter. Seriously.

Again the injury excuses. A 2nd year converted LB and a running back with these stats

279 Rushing Yards
328 Receiving Yards
2 total TDs

is the reason Marvin couldn't get the Bengal's into the playoffs?

I see your point thank you. It sucks being the only team in the NFL with injuries. One day we will get it right and be lucky enough to have zero injuries.

Damn, bro. Were you born a whining dickhead, or do they have "whining dickhead school" and you were the valedictorian?

1. Not whining, just putting it out there that people need to worry about OUR team and not bash other teams. The general population and professionals have picked the Browns to do better than us, so quit being such homers and face reality, plus you will look like dildos if they whip our ass. I am not saying they will or won't, just right now both teams look like shit. The injury excuse is SO USED up, so please quit using that as a crutch. Fact of the matter we were 8-8 and 7-9, without a playoff appearence.

2. If you are going to call me a whiney dickhead and try to be funny, at the very least be witty and call me a ValeDICKtorian.
