I rarely even read this forum because I'm not a smack talker by nature, other than a little jab here and there among friends.

From what little I've read (or remembered) here, bam and oft seem to be good fans, and for the most part keep their shit talk as respectful of boundaries as shit talk can be.

Congratulations.

It's not hard to be a fan of a perennially good team though. I don't know how you became Steeler fans, but most likely you guys got lucky. I grew up with The Big Red Machine, because I was born in Dayton, so I experienced being a fan of one of the greatest teams of all time. If I had been born in Pittsburgh, and I had been a Pirates fan, I would have hated the Reds. I also would have been a Steeler fan and hated the Bengals.

Most of us form our loyalties between the ages of, say 8 and 15. For some (like me) it's always the "home team", for others it's something like the uniforms, or it was their Dad's team, or whatever. If you're a fan of other sports, I'm sure some of "your teams" disappoint you regularly too. But you stay loyal. If you're really a fan. Right?

Sorry, I'm rambling. Just saying being a Bengal fan doesn't make anyone an asshole, and being a Steeler fan doesn't make anyone an Einstien. If you must gloat, please gloat as humbly as possible.

^_^

I became a Steelers fan, strangely enough, because of Mario Lemieux.

I live in Maine (born and raised), and I have played ice hockey since I was 5, so that was my favorite pro sport growing up. Mario Lemieux was my favorite player...so the Penguins were my favorite team.

I didnt follow football much until I was a junior in high school (93). I felt no loyalty to the Patriots because despite the fact that they are called the New England Patriots...they are a Boston team, and I dont particularly care for Boston (or many people from there).

So, I decided that since I liked the Penguins...I would see what the Steelers were all about. I became a fan almost instantly and have been ever since. It was the defense that hooked me. Rod Woodson, Levon Kirkland, Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene, Chad Brown....it was a hell of a team to watch. It still is.

I grew up and still live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. About an hour west of DC and Baltimore. Around here it is pretty much Redskin country. Some Ravens but you really have to get close to Baltimore to get into the Ravens big time. Back in the late 70's when I was about 7 or 8 we only had like 13 channels. 1 CBS, 1 NBC, 1 ABC, etc... my whole family of course like the Redskins. No one really liked the Colts. When football was on it was Redskins, Redskins, Redskins.... I wanted to be different and like someone else. The local NBC station had the AFC back then but they would never play the Colts because they sucked and were blacked out a lot so they played the next closest team. The Steelers. Of course they were in the mist of 4 Super Bowls in 6 years and Terry Bradshaw became my favorite player (still is). So at that point I gravitated toward the Steelers. Started following them big time back then and it stuck. I have liked them for probably 30 years. Stuck with them thru the 80's thru Weegie, Malone, Abercrombrie, David Little, Mike Merriweather. Losing to Marino in AFCC when we could have had him. Starting out one season at 0-2 and being outscored like 3-90 and then making the playoffs the same year and being a Bubby Brister fumble away from going to the AFCC. All the heartbreak with Cowher and getting so close. The run in 2005 and now this. Seen them play in person in my life around 20 times. A few times at 3-rivers. once at Hienz (Sunday night in the rain versus the Bengals last year) Many, Mnay times in Baltimore, a few pre-season games in DC at the old RFK.

Hoping for number 6.

:D

Actually when I signed up I was trying to be a smartass. The actual name I sign in under is Stanleywilsongotmehigh

It was changed by a clever moderator to Bam and I actually like it better. Nothing like wasting a career on 40 1bs of weed in your car.

A touching Steelers story....

A young man was very excited because he just won a ticket to see the Steelers in the Super Bowl. However, his excitement lessened as he realized his seat was in the back of the stadium, but as he searched the rows ahead of him for a better seat, he found an empty one right next to the field.

He approached the man sitting next to the empty seat and asked if it was taken.

The man replied, "No."

Amazed, the young man asked, "How could someone pass up a seat like this?"

The older gentleman responded, "That's my wife's seat. We've been to every Steeler Super Bowl together since the day we were married but she has passed away."

"Oh, how sad," the man said. "I'm sorry to hear that, but couldn't you find a friend or relative to come with you?"

"No," the man said, "They're all at the funeral."

Unless it's my team, I could not give a shit.

Even then, I'd still rather see the ratbirds or stains win one than the stealers...
