Podcast with Jess Phillips Jr!

It's been a long time but as I recall,Jess was a RB from Michigan State . A very good player . Paul Brown drafted him while he was in prison.Shortly thereafter(my guess is two weeks after the draft) he was released and became a solid citizen .Don't know what happened to him but you could call Paul the original redeemer.

According to records he was a DB, but whatever maybe he played both ways back then. I do remember that story, but I didn't know which player it was.

Wiki's got a nice Bengals Draft History chart including a key to show ProBowlers, HallOfFamers, and MVP's:

Thanks, esjbh. Lots of memories in there . Amazing how some drafts were home runs while others were a bust .I remember a lot of those guys and was surprised by their draft positions.

Phillips played his first year at SS, then Paul Brown moved him to FB, where he was an all pro in 1970
