Don't know if this has already been posted... but the Lions released Az Hakim and Brock Marion today. Marion might be a good pickup at S if the price is right, or at least he can tutor some of the younger guys.

Marion (5-11, 200) joined the Lions prior to last season, signing with the team March 25, 2004. He finished second on the squad with 112 total tackles and three interceptions while starting all 16 games for Detroit in 2004. Before joining the Lions, Marion spent six seasons (1998-03) with the Miami Dolphins and was named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad three times (2000, 2002-03). Marion was originally selected in the seventh-round (196th overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys, where he was a part of two Super Bowl Championship teams. He has 1,133 career tackles (774 solo) and has played in 182 games (154 starts) in 12 NFL seasons.

i mentioned him in the thread about the free agent rookie we signed at Saftey...hes get up there in age but looks like he can still be productive based on his stats from last year

We looked into signing him last year i do beleive

I've always loved Az. Hakim ever since he played for the superbowl rams. He's fast as hell and can make some unbeliveable catches, he's just too inconsistant. it would be nice to have someone that fast but im good with Chris Henry for right now, we don't need Az.

I wouldn't want Marion because he is too old and too slow.

I would take Marion but im not sure if Marv would since we kinda already have an older safety in Herring... I think Marvin is wanting to get younger but I would love to have Brock laying wood at safety for us

I wouldn't mind if we signed him, but I wouldn't be dissapointed if we didn't.

If the Lions are cutting a guy on defense, how good is he?

If Marvin sees fit, I'll buy it, otherwise I am quiet on this one.

Yep agreed. If you want someone to help the young guys then hire him as a coach, but we don't need any slow, worn out dudes on the field- Thurman would probably just run his ass over anyway

No!! I cannot stress that enough, we do NOT want to sign Brock Marion to any type of deal. My roommate is a huge Lions fan and on Sundays I'd glance over for a couple minutes at a time from the Bengals and have a look. Marion was bad, sure his numbers look ok but other than Shaun Rogers, that front seven was pretty weak. It's no wonder he had a good amount of tackles but I saw the tackles he did not make and lots were simply embarassing and due to his age now. Three or four years ago I'd have really wanted this guy and even last year when we went after him I thought it would be a value signing. Thank God we didn't ink this guy because the Lions need defense in the worst way and when they cut him it has to tell you something. I'd take my chances with some youth like we have done already than sign a has been.

Brock would be nice,we do need some depth at the right price.If we get injury ridden like last year,and have to move player's around like william's and so on.I would fill good with brock in there.

the guy was a probowler two years ago... the lions have a young guy on safety they want to come in and play. They basically just used Marion to teach thier young guy (the same thing i would want to do here!)
