*UPDATE* Ravens-Bengals game declared a sellout, no blackout

Recommended Posts

Not much of a dent was made in ticket sales for Sunday's game against Baltimore and the Bengals Ticket Office is saying that 5,000 seats remain available for the game, with only "hundreds" sold since Thursday.

Ticket manager Andrew Brown did say that the tickets remaining are slightly lower than the Denver and Houston games, which went down to the wire before they were sold out.

The game must be sold out by 1 p.m. on Thursday but it is likely if tickets remain that a 24-hour extension will be given by the league. Only one game was blacked out last week and 93 percent of all games have been shown locally (108 of 116). The eight blackouts have been in Jacksonville (three), Oakland (three) and Detroit (two).

I highly doubt it has any factor on it whatsoever, but is it strange that the two games that were sold out from the start have been wins and the two that came down to the wire and required assistance have been losses? Again, I am sure this has nothing to do with it. But it is interesting to point out. Now, I know alot more away fans were at the Pitt and Chicago games, so don't throw that back in my face. I am completely aware of that and I am just pointing something out. It is almost as if the fans aren't taking it seriously for those games, and then it rubs off on the players and they come out flat. Obviously I know its unrealistic, but its fun to speculate.

I abso-tively posi-lutely can't take this anymore.

It's a broken record.

Each & every week.

It's killing me!

The Bengals have announced that 4,500 tickets remain available for the Ravens' game on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009.

What the H-E-DOUBLE-GOLF-STICK is going on here?

You have a Super Bowl-bound team and you can't sell out? Gimme a break.

Sam Wyche's words are ringing in my ears …

It's the price for the 4-11-1 season last year. A lot of season ticket holders didn't renew, probably 5000 or more. Those seats have to be sold on a game by game basis. In a tough economy that's not easy, even with a good team.

You are right but the number is more like 15,000.

When your season is sold out or mostly sold out via season tickets people pay and also plan way before the season. To try to get 15K window sales with those prices is proving difficult for the Bengals. Especially when you consider the secondary market has good deals that cuts into the pool of willing buyers.

With the secondary market to sell 15K tickets you probalbly need 20K buyers because alot of people are stub hubbing etc for better seats.

The Bengals are going to have to resort to Cyclones marketing strategies soon. Student discounts, $1 beers (could you imagine the arrest numbers for that one), $1 hotdogs... Something to make bearable for those on a tight budget. Paying $50 per person (what does a cheap seat cost?) is tough, particularly when a beer, pretzel, and 2 coneys is another $20ish per person.

Hell, offer packages of seats that include concession stand vouchers or something. Haven't the Bengals or Reds done that in the past?

since going with my dad to the games, we eat on the way down, i have bought like 1 soda and a hot dog total all year,.. probably saved $150 so far this season..

but they already sell $1 hot dogs at all corner stadium concession stands.. its a kids dog.. and normal sized, not a dildo sized meat stick for $4.50

but they dont market these things..

if UC loses a game, theyll drop like a rock in the BCS and fans will bandwagon back..

if not, its a tough small market.. in a shit economy

Seriously who buys the outrageous concessions?

I've bought 2 beers out of the 30x I've gone to PBS.

And thx for the heads up on the $1 dogs.

I agree. I'm disappointed that they a first place team and can't get the corners sold. Reds were proactive in those type deals. All you can eat seats etc.

Sure, it isn't really "eatin free" but it gives the fan a price break or the preception of a price break.

Since being a NFL ticket buyer I've seen nothing but a steady increase in player's salaries, ticket prices, merchandise prices etc. It's disappointing that the price breaks haven't come and now a first place team has to do the weekly "are we gonna sell out" game. When times are good the NFL had no problem jackin up the price, times are bad and they are fightin to hold steady. IMO, that's a bad move. Get people out of the habit of going to many games and they'll find ways to enjoy the NFL without the spending.

Wish I had the money to make it out to this one. Unfortunately, I think this is probably where the streak ends because I don't see anyone buying out the tickets. If we win the next two though, I think the city might just sell the rest of the season out.

If there is any truth that the networks make more money by having on TV when buying up a few tickets the streak will continue.
