*UPDATE* Ravens-Bengals game declared a sellout, no blackout

Recommended Posts

Chick can kiss my ass. He hasn't paid for a damn ticket in years, if he has ever paid for one here. Anything he purchased when he did go was on his expense account. He was paid to see a team he doesn't even like. Must be nice. Hypocrite
We planned on going this year but circumstances are making food for my kids a much higher priority vs paying big bucks to watch millionaires play a fucking game. I know if we are having the financial problems we are having there are many many more out there in the same shape.
Fuck You Chick.

Seriously who buys the outrageous concessions?

I've bought 2 beers out of the 30x I've gone to PBS.

And thx for the heads up on the $1 dogs.
I do!!! Seriously , I don't get to games very often (though I will be going to Cleveland or Detroit this year) but when I do, I don't worry so much about the cost of concessions. If I want a beer, I'll have one. Now if I went to several games a year, I would treat it different, but right now it's special to get to go, and I'm not going to let a the cost of the beer and a hot dog ruin that.

That's because Chick created his own directory and nobody else is allowed in it. It's called the "I'm Awesome Directory"

But in all seriousness, there is no place I'd rather be than at their games but since I took a huge pay cut this past year, it will have to wait. I am 4 of those 4,000 unsold tickets and it's a damn shame.

I was listening to 1530 on the way home from work yesterday. Someone called in and said the Ticket Office was only selling tickets to the lower section if you bought a 4 game pack.....

I think you could still buy single tickets for section 300+

the amount of seats they are "holding onto" is getting smaller and smaller, ther were lower level endzone seats at ticketmaster for this game a week ago.. single game.. which was odd as previously there were only upper level.. so i assume they released some of the lower level to get the numbers rolling on sales, then capped it off at a certain point.

losing to the texans set sales back a little, especially losing so badly.

if we had scored on that drive where palmer threw a pick, people would be more hyped.. lose by just a few points instead of a few scores..

i think it will take another company pitching in and buying a bulk of tickets and donating some again to military and police, etc..

i ahve no doubts that they get it done..

but fans who can afford it should be out there watching the game live, its not that cold, and its a HUGE division game for the first place bengals..

the steelers could easily lose monday night, giving us a 1 game lead going into pitt, where even a loss would leave us in first place(i think)

hopefully they get beat up in denver, late monday night, geting home at 2-3am tuesday morning, short practice weak, some jet lag and hopefully some bumps and bruises with a day less to heal..

go broncos... and go bengals..

*ends rambling on and on*

I honestly don't care if the steelers win vs the broncos, we need the broncos to lose 3 games, because i think we're going to beat the steelers and ravens anyways.

Blackout looms: Are the Bengals crying wolf again?
By Ken Paxson | Thursday, November 5, 2009, 10:50 AM

Are the Bengals crying wolf again?

Once again the team is saying it is thousands of tickets short of a sellout for a home game — 3,500 to be exact for Sunday's game against Baltimore at Paul Brown Stadium.

Will fans step up and sell it out in time for the game to be broadcast on TV? I'm sure some will, but put your money on a combination of factors to come together to sell the game out.

Last time it was Motorola and Chad Ochocinco buying up the remaining tickets and giving them away for free.

Or perhaps the Bengals will actually be blacked out for the first time since Nov. 9, 2003, ending their streak of 48 consecutive sellouts.

Expect a 24-hour extension of Thursday's 1 p.m. sellout deadline to be granted sometime in the very near future.

We should know sometime Friday afternoon whether you'll be able to tune in Sunday … or not.

For the third time this year, the Bengals have received a 24-hour extension to avoid a local television blackout.

The Bengals have 3,000 tickets remaining for Sunday's game against Baltimore, which is the same amount of tickets they had at this point for the Oct. 18 game against Houston.

If the game is not sold out by 1 p.m. Friday, the game will be blacked out in Cincinnati, Lexington and Dayton. The game will be aired in Columbus. The Bengals have a 48-game regular-season and playoff sellout streak.

Through seven games, Bengals ratings locally are up 36 percent with a 33.9 rating and 58 percent market share (it was 25.0/49 last year). That is the second biggest increase in the league with Arizona leading at 37 percent.

After not selling out either preseason game for the first time since 2005, the Bengals went down to the wire in order to sell out the regular-season opener against Denver when the team, Kroger and WKRC-TV (Channel 12) bought the remaining tickets.

For the Houston game, Motorola bought the remaining tickets.

The last Bengals regular-season game not to sell out was on Nov. 9, 2003, when the Bengals hosted the Texans.

Through eight weeks this season, 93 percent of NFL games have sold out (108 of 116 games). The eight blackouts this year have been in Jacksonville and Oakland (three each) and Detroit (two). The Jaguars are home this week to Kansas City, which will be blacked out.

The Bengals extension is the 10[sup]th[/sup] issued this year. Besides the three here, extensions were granted in Arizona (three), San Diego (two), Oakland and Detroit.

None of the Bengals remaining four games are sold out.

Bengals get 24-hour blackout extension
Posted 15 minutes ago
Posted: 2:10 p.m.

The NFL today extended by 24 hours the deadline by which a sellout must be reached to permit local television coverage of Sunday's 1 p.m. Bengals game vs. Baltimore at Paul Brown Stadium.

Games normally must be sold out 72 hours prior to kickoff for lifting of the local TV blackout, but the deadline for this week has been shortened to 48 hours, giving the club until 1 p.m. tomorrow (Friday).

"We still have approximately 3000 tickets to sell, so it's by no means assured we can avert a blackout," said Andrew Brown, Bengals ticket sales manager. "But we are pleased to have the chance for some great closing sales to keep our sellout streak alive."

The Bengals have sold out their last 48 consecutive regular-season and postseason games, breaking a franchise-record streak of 43 that was set at Riverfront Stadium between 1988 and 1992.

If the game is sold out by 1 p.m. Friday, it will be televised live in the Bengals home market on CBS affiliates WKRC-TV (Channel 12) in Cincinnati, WHIO-TV (Channel 7) in Dayton and WKYT-TV (Channel 27) in Lexington, Ky.

To purchase tickets for Baltimore, fans may call the Bengals Ticket Hotline at 866-621-TDTD (8383) or click here to order online. The Hotline will be open every day this week from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m

it is certain that we will have some blackout games this year. Browns, Chiefs, Lions......
I would say it is certain. Ecspecially if we still only have 2 losses
when those games roll around.

But yeah, we would have already had a couple of blacked out games
if it weren't for bailouts by Kroger, Channel 12 and Motorola.

From C Trent's blog . . .

I'm sick of the will-they, won't-they thing on the blackout. At this point, it might be best for the Bengals to let there be a blackout.

Now it seems people are expecting a bail-out -- at this point maybe the bluff needs to be called.

I understand, from a business perspective, why the Bengals didn't want a blackout of the Broncos and Texans games -- they thought an act of goodwill would help out -- and the bandwagon would fill up. Well, it apparently hasn't filled. Oh well. Let it be blacked out -- maybe it'll work to sell tickets to the rest of the games.

Now, that said, I'm not judging those who don't buy tickets. Tickets aren't cheap. Parking ain't cheap. None of it is cheap. The DLP was hoping to go to a game because she's never been -- but then she saw the pricetag and it wasn't worth it. In this day and age, we all need to look at what we're paying for -- and I'm not sure a ticket is the best use of $64.

But if you're a Bengals fan and want to see the game, it may be the only way.
