Biblical Social Justice and Glenn Beck

by Jim Wallis 03-10-2010
Glenn Beck says Christians should leave churches that use the word “social justice.” He says social justice is a code word for communism and Nazism.
But since the Catholic Church, the Black Churches, the Mainline Protestant churches, more and more Evangelical and Pentecostal churches including Hispanic and Asian-American congregations all consider social justice central to biblical faith, Glenn Beck is telling all those Christians to leave their churches. Of course, Christians may disagree about what social justice means in our current political context — and that conversation is an important one — but the Bible is clear: from the Mosaic law of Jubilee, to the Hebrew prophets, to Jesus Christ, social justice is an integral part of God’s plan for humanity.

Beck says Christians should leave their social justice churches, so I say Christians should leave Glenn Beck. I don’t know if Beck is just strange, just trying to be controversial, or just trying to make money. But in any case, what he has said attacks the very heart of our Christian faith, and Christians should no longer watch his show. His show should now be in the same category as Howard Stern. Stern practices pornography and Beck denies the central teachings of Jesus and the Bible. So Christians should stop watching the Glenn Beck show and pray for him and Howard Stern.
Beck also said that if his church was about “social justice” he would report his church to the church authorities. What authorities? Church bodies as diverse in their theology as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Association of Evangelicals have explicitly endorsed social justice as a biblical imperative.
Your link might be the most sensible responses to the Glenn Becks of the world; fucking ignore them and the will go away once advertisers realize there is no audience.

Why does anyone care about Glen Beck? Or Keith Olbermann? Or Bill O'Reilly? Or John Stewart?

None of them have any political influence, despite what people say. Fuck them all. OP-ED pieces are not news. Everyone should know that.

Glenn Beck will say some things I agree with. Then he'll go off and say Ron Paul is a terrorist. He acts like he's a Constitutionalist but will still come out and support the Patriot Act, the bailouts, the phony war on terrorism. He's a neocon is sheep's clothing.

I repeat. Glenn Beck rocks.

Why? As a satire? Surely you don't buy into his outrageous non sense?

That would be baffling, because you seem like a rational person.. And Beck is insane.

Yes telling Christians to leave their church if they preach social or economic justice, which is just "code words" for Marxism (has beck even read the bible??), certainly "rocks". :glare:

I'm not even sure Joseph McCarthy took it that far.

Earthquakes rock, too. :dance2:

I was driving across town the other morning and was listening to his show. I don't have all that much exposure to the fellow, but he strikes me as having one overriding principle--to promote Glenn Beck. Not unlike Limbaugh and Olbermann. With all of these guys, there's an undertone of "to hell with the hindmost" that doesn't appeal to me. For some reason, they make me think of mudskippers.

Memphis Women and Fried Chicken??

Nation lets take a look at these code words....

Memphis Women
Fried Chicken

Now if we look just a bit closer

Fried Women
Memphis Chicken

You see Homer here wants to fry your women!! You know who else fried women? .... Hitler

And Memphis Tennessee is only 381 miles from Louisville Kentucky where the famous Colonel Sanders, father of Kentucky Fried Chicken is head-quartered. Colonel Sanders?? ...as in the Army?? ... as in the RED ARMY!!!!....THE SAME RED ARMY OF JOSEPH STALIN!!!!

There are also only 999 miles from Moscow to Berlin...999....666...

Homer is a Nazi, Communist, Satan Worshiper!!!!!!
