I'll believe it when I see it. I'm not one to jump on the "fuck Mike Brown!" bandwagon, but this would be completely out of character. Reference: Mike Ditka's trade offer.

I would give our first for him. I think we would have to give a little more though. The Seahawks have 2 first and they are both higher picks. I hope we swing something to get him.

That really does not matter....

It is who Marshall signs an offer sheet with. That is Marshall's choice.

I have a feeling this thread is eventually going to reach 5 pages....

Guess I'll throw my opinion in there. It is really tough to both give up a 1st rounder and pay a guy 8 or 9 million a year. Especially since late 1st rounders only make 2 or 3 million per year. So the question isn't simply, Arrelious Benn (or whoever your favorite 1st rounder is) vs. Marshall. The question really is Arrelious Benn and 6 million per year for the next 5 years to spend in FA vs. Brandon Marshall.

All that said, he is the rare guy who is worth it. I say sign him up...

I don't believe this source at all. There are 3 reasons I don't think the Bengals will go after Marshall.

1) He will be EXPENSIVE to sign to a long term deal
2) He is a head case who challenges the authority of the coaches
3) He will cost at least a first round draft choice, and Mike Brown hoards them like gold.

We would be better off if we end up signing T.O., although with all the dropped passes he's had the last couple of years, he may end up reminding us of Coles...
Since this year is an uncapped year, they could put the majority of his bonus this year and the other 3 or 4 years, can kinda even things out when the cap returns.

Would Brandon Marshall want to be a Bengal vs. the other teams interested in him? If he signs with the Bengals, does he have a better chance of getting to the Super Bowl than the other teams interested in him? Those are questions he is interested in as he thinks where he wants to go.

Getting Brandon Marshall for the #21 overall pick would be a great move for the Bengals. WR is the Bengals biggest need right now. Not only is Marshall one of the top WRs now,but he will be only 26 years old during the season. He would be able to help the Bengals immediately and he would also be the Bengals #1 WR for another several years.Right now the Bengals don't have another potential, young #1 or #2 WR on the roster.
At this time , who knows who will be available at #21. The top WR prospect in the draft,Dez Bryant, will probably be chosen . The Bengals need to show some urgency with Palmer at age 30 and Chad at 32 .starting to close with these guys.
Today’s NFL news and rumors have conflicting reports on whether Brandon Marshall is heading to the Seahawks or the Bengals.

The Brandon Marshall saga should end in the next few days, but the major question mark remaining is which team the volatile wide receiver will end up with. The Seattle Seahawks were considered the favorite to land Marshall for much of the week, but now some NFL news outlets are reporting that the former Denver Bronco is meeting with Cincinnati Bengals’ officials at this time.

Marshall never got along with the Bronco coaching staff, but that won’t stop teams from going after him after the Central Florida product went for 1,120 yards and 10 touchdowns last year – his 3rd straight season with over 1,000 yards receiving.

Just as soon as rumors surfaced of Marshall meeting with the Bengals, opposing reports came about suggesting that he was only in Cincinnati to force the price tag on his Seahawks’ deal even higher. The Bengals are in need of another playmaking receiver opposite Chad Ochocinco, but Marshall’s price tag - a 1st rounder to get him, along with a potential new contract – might be too much for Cincinnati to afford.
By James Walker

Will the Cincinnati Bengals shock the NFL and pull off a blockbuster trade to acquire receiver Brandon Marshall from the Denver Broncos?

The short answer: Probably not.

There have been mixed reports about Cincinnati's plans to acquire a receiver. Names such as Terrell Owens, Kevin Walter and Marshall have all been talked about, and so far nothing has come to fruition.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Bengals are contemplating a play for Marshall, who visited this weekend with the Seattle Seahawks. But thinking about a player and actually making a trade are two vastly different things.

Considering Cincinnati's history, giving up its first-round pick and signing Marshall to a contract extension that, at the very least, would start in the range of $30-40 million would be completely out of character for the Bengals.

Cincinnati has expressed some level of interest in free-agent receiver Owens, who can sign at a much cheaper rate and the team would still retain its first-round pick to address other needs.

Although that move isn't a slam dunk, either, it's still more likely T.O. or some other free-agent receiver wears Bengals stripes next year than Marshall.

Marshall is bad ass, everyone knows it. Giving him the contract and giving up the first round pick just makes my stomach turn. It's like this must go right or we are fucked. But, it would be freakin huge if it happened.

I like the TO route more because you can walk away from it with little damage and still keep the first rounder.

kind of the way I feel. I just can't see giving up a #1 pick and a boatload of cash for a knucklehead who's reportedly one strike from a 1yr suspension.

I can just see the Bengals doing the deal, and then him screwing up a month from now and we're fucked. It's just the Bengals luck.

Brandon Marshall's name was bound to pop up eventually in connection with the Bengals, and it did on Sunday.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier Sunday that the Bengals have had some discussions about possibly making an offer for the Broncos wide receiver. Marshall has entered into the Bengals discussions, but only as an option if all others are exhausted.

The only scenario where Marshall would become a more viable is if their top two targets of Antonio Bryant and Terrell Owens were to come off the market. Right now they both remain available with the Bengals being the only team reported to have an interest in Owens.

Marshall, who is a restricted free agent, visited Seattle over the weekend but the Seahawks have not signed him to an offer sheet yet. Denver has tendered him for $2.521 million and a first-round pick. The Seahawks remain the favorite to land Marshall due to his familiarity with offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates and that he is represented by the same agent as T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Seattle also has money, which carries significance since whoever gets Marshall would have to sign him to a long-term deal.

Wow, we aren't really doing anything in free agency, and yet we are mentioned in connection [albeit slight] with two of the better WR's that are in the league. Go figure.....

Pair either one with Chad, and give Carson some protection, we could see our offense from 2004-2007 return to form, and combine that with our borderline-elite defense, the sky's the limit.

Personally, I like the Terrell Owens possibility. We could get him for one year, we all know that T.O. 's gonna be in excellent shape, and that other teams will still have to play him honest. Despite being with a QB challenged team, he did play pretty decently. Put hime with Carson and Ochocinco, and I could see him put up numbers like TJ did when he was here. Not to mention that it would take significant pressure off of Chad. And always in the first year with a team, T.O. is not a complete jackass.

On the other hand, you can't help but love to have Brandon Marshall. Big, strong, sure hands, in his prime---what else could you ask for. I understand that he has significant downside as well as far as character issues, and has a knucklehead streak. But then again Cedric was considered a knucklehead too, as was Chris Henry [RIP young warrior]. But they turned it around. Marshall could be here longer as well...I know that if we could swing MArshall, it means giving up the no. 21 pick in the draft, and considering the depth of the draft overall, we could be easily giving up a potential All-Pro and pro-bowler for a proven one. That draft pick is valuable, but if you feel that you are close---and I think that despite how we played the Jets in the playoffs, the front office feels that we are close---you should swing for the fences. Don't leave any shadow of doubt or regret.

I liken this to hitting on a girl that is a possible 9 or 10 at a club. What's the worse that gonna happen if you actually take a shot? She'll say no. So what? What if she says yes?

I say take the shot, then worry about the crabs and genital itching later. [Yes, this image is fucked up, but hopefully you get my point] BRING ON BRANDON MARSHALL!!!!!!

It depends on how far out the Bengals are looking. Short term, bring in T.O. But if they want a more permanent solution, go after Brandon Marshall. Ultimately, I think either move has more reward than risk, because they are know quantities, unlike a draft pick.

I don't think Marshall cares about Super Bowls. I think he will go to a high end franchise (City that is) and continue to demand the ball be thrown to him. I would be interested to see how he and Chad would get along but I don't think it will happen.

The Cincinnati Enquirer calls Brandon Marshall an option for the Bengals "only...if all others are exhausted."
Beat writer Joe Reedy confirms the team has debated Marshall, but indicates that unrestricted free agents Terrell Owens and Antonio Bryant are likelier targets. In order to get Marshall, the Bengals would have to surrender the No. 21 overall pick. Signing T.O. or Bryant would cost only a contract.

The Bengals believe they need a wide receiver.

Antonio Bryant and Terrell Owens are two free agents they are considering, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reports there have been internal discussions about going a splashier route.

Cincinnati has talked about going after Brandon Marshall. How serious the Bengals will be in their pursuit is a "matter of discussion within the organization."

The Bengals pick No. 21 overall, but giving that pick up would strongly go against Mike Brown's history. The Bengals grand poobah has used his first-round pick every year since 1989, and there is great value in contracts that late in the round.

The Seahawks hosted Marshall over the weekend, but it's unclear if they are willing to give up one of their first round picks to get him. (They own No. 6 and No. 14 overall.)

It remains unclear if there will be competition for Marshall's services, which this report could be aimed at doing.

The Broncos have taken the position that they will only take a first-round pick for Marshall, as they should. It still would be a stunner if the Bengals were the team to do it.

Not only that, but I think if this deal goes down by the end of it and considering all that you gave up, you need to have a 2004-2007 Chad type production from Marshall. He will need to become the next face of this offense with Palmer/Benson.

There can't be this questionalbe production for as high profile it is for this franchise, the money, and the pick. There can't be any grey area if you want to add Marshall and then talk about Superbowl, IMO. It's got to be unquestioned pro bowl years.

The decision for Seahawks’ brass at present essentially boils down to, do they want to give up the No. 6 overall pick in this year’s draft and spend in the neighborhood of $30 million to $40 million for one of the league’s most talented receivers who comes with a lot of baggage?

The Seahawks are going to give up that much money for a draft pick that could be a bust.

Denver and Marshall are ready to part ways. The Broncos reportedly offered Marshall a multiyear deal last season, worth in the range of $9.5 million a year, and the 25-year-old rejected the offer because the contract had little up-front money, and he wanted to play elsewhere.

If this is true, I don't see Marshall going back to Denver. And if he is forced, I think he will be
an even bigger headache for McDaniels than he was last season.
