Who's #41 (thats newman for dallas) and he's gotta be better than Tom Nelson

Newman isn't a FA. He is still on the Cowboys roster.

Maybe he is just coming along for the ride?

I guess Marvin and Zimmer really meant no one was out there better than Hamlin in the later rounds. It would be a pretty good battle with him and Williams/Ndukwe/Crocker...I like it.

I dont think he could start but would be a much better option as a spot starter than Nelson was. Him, Crock, Roy, and Duke with Hebert for special teams would be more than fine with me

I think Hamlin's contract had alot to do with Dallas releasing him..
that and the fact that he's not a good cover guy anymore....doesnt make any big plays outside of the big hit..
He takes a penalty for those big hits sometimes too...
He looks like another SS in the mix to me.....

Number 41 is Duke. Probably his host who picked him up at thje airport or something would be my guess...

be ironic if he picked him up at the airport then lost his job to him later on..
so goes it in the NFL

hamlin wouldn't be taking a spot from chinny, he would be taking nelsons spot at backup fs to crock. Chinny would still be the backup to roy. That would leave us in a pretty solid position at safety.

So its not possible that Williams could start and backed up by Hamlin with
Crocker as FS backed up by Jeremy Miles??? no possible???

If you're worried to this extent about Crocker and Williams being injured, I can't see you getting rid of your veteran backup and going with 2 rookies.

Oops - Hamlin's not a rookie. Still don't see them getting rid of him at this point.

Hamlin would make a lot of sense as the #4 Safety (or #3 if he's ahead of Chinny). He fits so well with the type of guys the Bengals have had success bringing in:

1. Cheap vet with something to prove.
2. Very low risk signing because there's probably not much in the way of a signing bonus.
3. Vet, but not ancient. Will be 29 next season. (Near the same age as guys like Roy Williams, Dhani Jones and Chris Crocker when we got them.)
4. The Zimmer connection. (Like Tank and Roy.) Edit: Just looked it up and it appears he never played for Zimmer in Dallas. He arrived the year after Zim left. Still, I'm sure Zim has a lot of contacts there and can get the inside scoop on him.
5. Has had some off field issues in his past that may scare other teams away, but not necessarily the Bengals (like Tank and Matt Jones).

Add it all up, and this is just the type of guy we need and just the type of guy the Bengals usually sign. Could be great bang for the buck and really shore up the last spot on the team where many of us are worried about the depth.

I agreee on all counts.......I see some competition at safety and wouldnt surprise me if a vet was cut ..

same with all the units on this team this season..

well lets see...hamlin is a fs, and played fs most of if not all of his career. We have two solid ss and a glaring weakness at backup fs behind crock. Is it possible hamlin would replace chinny? I guess but it's highly likely he is being brougt in to replace nelson so I'm very confused by your post...

Exactly. As long as the price tag is reasonable, it would be great to have 4 veteran guys with starting experience at Safety: Crocker, Williams, Chinny and Hamlin. Especially since 2 of those guys have made Pro Bowls (Hamlin and Williams) and none of them will be older than 30 so none are really slowing down too significantly.

I really, really hope this happens.

In their bid to add possibly another veteran safety, Ken Hamlin said on his Twitter account that he is visiting Cincinnati tonight and tomorrow. Hamlin was released by the Dallas on April 2 following three seasons there.

Hamlin came to Dallas after spending his first four seasons in Seattle. In 2007, Hamlin earned his first Pro Bowl berth after having a career high in tackles (102) and interceptions (five). After that season, the Cowboys gave Hamlin a six-year, $39 million contract. Since then he has had only one interception.

Last year Hamlin missed four games with a high ankle sprain and was replaced by Alan Ball. After seeing what Ball did, coach Wade Phillips lauded his leadership and playmaking ability, the Cowboys have decided to go with the younger and less expensive Ball.

The Bengals love nothing more than a Dallas Cowboy that has recently been released.

Safety Ken Hamlin said on his Twitter account he is visiting Cincinnati Tuesday night and Wednesday. If he signed, he would join Roy Williams in Cincinnati as an ex-Cowboy safety that was once vastly overpaid by Jerry Jones.

Williams' issue is that he can't cover well. Hamlin struggles with tackling, but can play a "centerfield" role, so a possible signing makes some sense for what the Bengals need.

The Bengals surprisingly didn't draft a safety over the weekend.

he might not beat out one of the starters, but I'd let him think he has a chance to.
