Lately, I have been on a bit of quest to find some new bands to enjoy, and quite frankly, a ton of what I've sampled just sucks. I will admit to be incredibly picky though and the list of bands I like is incredibly short.

Right now I listen to a ton of Otep, a ton. Great stuff. I really enjoy the debut efforts (so long ago nowadays) from Slipknot and Mudvayne but both bands have gone completely downhill with every release since. Both bands have pretty much become intolerable. Do enjoy almost all the efforts from Coal Chamber.

I like the screaming, but not constantly. Show me a little vocal range instead of just growling through an entire song. Throw in some melodic type stuff. I love the heavy riffs but don't just play palm muted power chords the whole song. With a lot of these bands I've tried to listen as well, it seems like the vocals get drowned behind the instruments.

Throw some bands out there. I'll at least give it a shot. I have tried to get into these bands, but just can't: Flee the Seen, Inked in Blood, In This Moment, As Blood Runs Black, Emmure, Between the Buried and Me, Kidney Thieves, SyBreed, Stuck Mojo, Mastodon, Soil, Unloco, Nmemic, Nonpoint, Dope, Arch Emeny (how anyone can listen to that is beyond me), and many others.

As well as:
The Agonist - Just can't get into them, have tired. Just to much growling/rasping vocals and one of the bands where the vocals seem to get lost in the music. I think they are calling stuff like this "metalcore" or something.

Mesuggah - Actually kinda dig the music, quite a bit. Very defined sound, very well executed. And then the guy has to open his mouth and ruin it.

I have a very limited number of things I've enjoyed while searching...

Found a band called "Level-C", an all female band from the Cleveland area. Pretty raw production quality, but still pretty good and more of what I'm looking for. Link to their song "No Control": http://www.youtube.c...h?v=2Xb6MT3PuLY. They have some other songs that I like a little more like "Suck a fist" and "Ignite Us", but this song is solid. They do have a myspace, but not many songs are available, they did have an "official" site, up until a few days ago apparently.

I also found a pretty interesting French Metal band. A band called "Eths." Female fronted as well, pretty badass. Check this fuckin' sweet ass song out: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=S97oUM_fjs8. Actium, I have a feeling you might be into this band. Has pretty much everything I really look for musically and lyrically.

Godsmack is the last heavy band I got into. I've found that since passing 40 I just can't listen to hard rock/metal for too long anymore. I can tolerate about 5 minutes of something and then I'm perfectly content putting in something like Clapton Unplugged. Getting older sucks.

I've grown preferences in metal genres over the years, growing out of the death metal and black metal phase and preferring more of the doom, sludge, thrash, "stoner" metal, and certain gothic & atmospheric stuff...
Whenever anyone asks for music recommendations, especially pertaining to metal/hard rock, I always mention Spiritual Beggars. I discovered them back in '06, and they've been one of my favorite bands since. Michael Amott of Arch Enemy founded them in 1994. Their are also good bands who stemmed off from Spiritual beggars including Grand Magus, Mushroom River Band, Spice and the RJ Band, and Kayser.

One of my other favorite bands is Paradise Lost. They've been a band that has never been stagnant on their sound; they've changed album to album but in a good way - it works. In their early years the vocals of Holmes were more growling and harsh and the music was sort of thrash and doom. The album Gothic is a classic. Later the vocals were cleaned up. Draconian Times is a great album. They've incororated some "depeche mode" electronnic stle to some of their albums, which are my least favorites, but afterward got much darker with albums Paradise Lost, In Requiem, and their new album Faith Divides Us Death Unites Us...

Godsmack and Disturbed for sure.
Hinder is not as hard as those 2 but still have some good stuff.
Korn's earlier stuff was pretty decent and Limp Bizkit was one of my favorite bands for quite awhile.
I like Papa Roach alot too... One of the best live bands I have ever seen.
Avenged Sevenfold.

Also, a friend of mine swears by Five Finger Death Punch and Divine Heresy but I can't listen it, just not my thing.

I'll give a lot of those vids a try in a little bit, it's like 4am and my ears are not up yet. Thanks J.

With those CC radio bands, enh....

Korn - Was a huge Korn fan way back when and I'll still listen to their stuff now. Can't remember the last Korn album I bought though. I think I heard new Korn song on the radio the other day.

Godsmack, Disturbed, Staind are all so played out. FFDP is very similar to PM5K it seems. Divine Heresy? I'll try it.

Really looking for some shit they WON'T play on the radio.

Anyone check out that Eths song?

Also, if you like metal...then you probably(hopefully)have heard Pantera.
