The NFL is a highly-competitive league where any advantage might be the difference in winning and losing.

For the [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/cin/cincinnati-bengals"][color="#608fd6"]Cincinnati Bengals[/color][/url], they should keep an eye [url="http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/news/story?id=5492437"][color="#225db7"]on the situation[/color][/url] involving [url="http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/ne/new-england-patriots"][color="#225db7"]New England Patriots[/color][/url] Pro Bowl guard [url="http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8446"][color="#225db7"]Logan Mankins[/color][/url]. He's currently involved in an ugly contract dispute with New England that probably won't end any time soon. Cincinnati will play the Patriots in Week 1.

Mankins is New England's best offensive lineman. His potential absence will only hurt the Patriots against Cincinnati's physical defense, which ranked fourth in the NFL last season.

I got a few minutes before "work" starts so....would anyone else give up a 1st rounder to trade for Mankins?

Would upgrade the worst spot on our line with argueably the best LG in the league and is likely better than whoever we could get with the 32nd pick next year.

I think I'd pursue it if I were in charge.

Why would you give up a first rounder for a guy who's already 28 and wants a new contract?



Someone started a thread like this a week or so ago. I'd gladly give up a 3rd, but not too much more.

And at this point the patriots will probably cave. They're linemen are dropping like flies.

Giving up a 1st rounder for a guard that you are going to have to pay $8 million per year is dicey. I don't think I would give him $8 million per year even if he didnt cost any draft picks. The Pats don't seem willing to give Mankins the contract that he wants, so why should the Bengals give the Pats a high draft pick for the right to give him his contract?

the mankins and revis situation will somehow magically be resolved once the season is about to unfold. it always happens that way, so i wouldn't put much stock in walker's premise.

Their O-line is taking some serious hits. they also just lost Nick Kazkur (starting RT for last 5 years) to a season ending injury.

But at least they were able to find a young free agent with a lot of starting experience to help the O-line. Some fella named Ghiaciuc.

Because he's arguably the best in the league at his position, which happens to be the weakest position on our team.

Windows of opportunity close quickly in the NFL and I feel like this team has one open right now. Replacing Livings with an All-Pro LG could make a serious difference in this offense and if it brought us a superbowl for this season...I'd give em our whole 2011 draft.

Different strokes for different folks I guess, like I said Mankins in 2010 is better than anyone we could draft at #32 in 2011.

Yeah..uh..interior line is kind of important.

It's the reason Jon Kitna played all but 2 offensive snaps in a playoff game for us.

Building from the inside to the outside is so much more efficient than outside to the inside.

this is the kind of year where you pull out all the stops in my opinion

turning something that is almost unanimously considered our biggest weekness into a position of strength could be a big difference maker

Never said it wasn't important.

I said no to the trade and what I think would be the contract.

Quality interior o-line is plentiful and easier to obtain.

Why drop 5-8 mil a year and a high pick when you can get adequate quality with a 2nd or 3rd rounder?

By the way the guy that was blocking kimo eventually became a 6 mil a year guard. Not much you can do if the DE decides to play dirty.

Well I was really just musing out loud in my original post since I don't consider it a possibility that Mankins ends up anywhere but NE.

Hopefully YOU don't think I actually believe that Mankins = Superbowl. Just voicing the idea that if I, as a fan, could enjoy a historic superbowl run this year and it only cost me the ramafications of not having a single draft pick in 2011...bring that shit on baby!

I would do a draft pick and player packaged together. It is not smart to give up your first and second round picks even if you are lousy at drafting. Not saying the Bengals are bad at drafting players. How about Odom and a 5th rounder for Mankins? or insert Geathers instead of Odom? I think you are going to have to give up a starter to get Mankins. He would be a significant upgrade at lg. Got to keep Carson upright this year.

We havent exactly invested much in the way of even mid round draft pics in it either (outside of luigis). The last high pick interior linemen we drafted was Whit and he was moved outside.

i would trade our 1st and livings for a 3rd an mankins. that way we don't lose any picks and we get a 3rd thing instead of dropping 1st round money on an unknown but its no biggie if we dont

If there is an abundance of adequate interior lineman out there to be had..where is it all going that we can't get any?

Thing is, is that now the good interior line players are going in the first round, so you are going to have to invest big money and a first round pick to get good interior lineman. Iupati didn't even make it to us in the draft this year. Why would trading for Mankins be that big of a deal, other than he won't have a lot of years left in him?

It won't happen, but it's not like it's some terrible idea.

too old to pay that much money... you can pick a top 6 OT and move whit back for less than that...

and prob get a badass LG in the draft in the 2nd for 1/4th that pay..
