oldschooler
Report: Reds to sign Dusty Baker to new deal Posted: 6:34 PM Last Updated: 3 minutes ago By Dennis Janson / Contributed by Ian Preuth CINCINNATI - The National League Central Division Champion Cincinnati Reds want to hold on to their leader a little while longer. Dusty Baker, whose contract expires after this season, was offered a deal in late July. Sources told me that the contract originally offered Baker a one-year extension for 2011 and an option year but that option would only be exercised if he made the playoffs this year. Sources said Baker was fine with that. He's not underpaid after all at $4 million in base salary from what I've been told. But, some in the organization reportedly thought after what he had done so far this season, anything short of at least a two-year extension for the three time Manager of the Year bordered on an insult. The Reds clinched their first playoff appearance since 1995 in dramatic fashion Tuesday night when Jay Bruce hit a walk-off homerun against the Houston Astros. "Most reports are wrong. We're close. We've been close for a while. My contract is not the focal point," Baker said to the Associated Press. Hall of Fame reporter Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News said the new deal could be for as long as three years. No official announcement has been made. http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/sports/baseball/reds/report%3A-reds-to-sign-dusty-baker-to-new-deal

I view Dusty like I do Marvin. I think they are both very good coaches, and very good motivators. Get the best out of their players. I dont think either are the best at in game management but oh well. Kudos to Dusty. Win the WS and Ill pay for your 3rd year
