Have they even fired their coach yet? I think it may be premature to say that till they know whats going on with the coaching situation.

They don't have to fire him. He was a lame duck. Contract expired.

NFLN's @michaelombardi : "There are indications coming from Carolina that the team will not draft a QB and rely on Jimmy Clausen next season

Posturing already.

yeah see i cant imagine they know anything about what they are doing yet then
Because their owner, who seems to be a bigger tightwad than MB
had a press conference yesterday and said that he was commited
to Clausen and gave the impression that he didn't want to pay a
rookie QB that much money. Or something to that effect. I read some
of it on twitter yesterday.

May all be a smoke screen though. Who knows.

I cant imagine that with the new CBA and likelyhood of a rookie scale, that he would have to.

Well again, from the impression I got, he wasn't confident that the NFL could
get all of the consessions they are asking for for a new CBA. 18 game schedule,
reduced pay for everyone, rookie scale, ect ect ect.

But even with a new CBA, and rookie scale, you would have to think QBs would
still get some kind of premium over other positions, just like now.

Anyway, I am just going off what was said and what Michael Lombardi is also hearing.

Great blue north draft report had a story yesterday saying panthers contacted Luck and told him he would be their #1 pick
Has he officially declared yet? Are they allowed to do that?

I am sure he was psyched about that. (Images of David Carr being pummelled flash in my mind.)

Even if they don't take him, they will have plenty of suitors for that pick.
Yeah, Adam Schefter was on the radio suggesting a trade for that pick would in huge demand because of Luck. I think he threw out 3 No. 1 picks as the price.

I don't know. If their line can stay intact on the field, it is not that bad. And they have two very good RB's.

Well, I was talking to a buddy who lives in Savannah (they get a ton of Carolina coverage down there for some reason, along with Atlanta and Jacksonville), and he was talking about hearing they were high on Newton. Not sure who is source was and I told him it'd probably be luck, but if they could trade down and still get Newton, could be huge for them. I'm not buying the Clausen argument though. They really can't afford to do that.

I would take Mallet before I even thought about Newton (assuming you trade your spot for picks). I guess Newton would sell tickets just like Timmy Couch and Vince Young did.... for awhile.

Peyton Manning & Tom Brady would be worth 3 #1's ... but they might be the only 2 players in the NFL worth that much.

I guess it depends if you think Luck is the next Peyton or Eli.
