Bengals1181
Rumors going around that Michael Bay is making a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie...except he's changing the story to make the turtles aliens instead of mutants. You can't make this stuff up....
read that the other day. Think the outrage is a little over the top. Sure, it kind of screws with the "mutant" part of the title, but its not like them being aliens is any more outlandish than them being mutants, and its not like TMNT is such a great franchise that they're beyond their origin story being tweaked.
I dunno, I might have to disagree there. I'm not going to go as far as to say it was right there with Transformers and GI Joe, but I don't think it was that far off, either. I think most people (myself included), are a little more nostalgic about the early/mid 80's cartoons since that was kind of the golden era of action cartoons. But I remember TMNT being pretty huge. There was sort of dead space when Transformers and GI Joe started losing popularity, and TMNT came in and kind of took over. I honestly cant even remember what competition TMNT had. Power Rangers (puke) came in after TMNT was already past its prime. Other than that, you had some B-level cartoons like Captain Planet, Captain N, and maybe a few others, but no other action cartoons that rivaled TMNT, as far as I can remember. Look back on everything that the cartoon spawned. Two pretty major live-action films (plus one straight-to-video film), a whole bunch of mostly well-done video games (the infamous NES game which is probably the exception, the awesome Arcade cabinet game that was later released on NES and XBox Live), a sequal to that arcade game on NES (The Manhatten Project), and Turtles in Time for the SNES), a huge line of action figures that are still being produced, comic books (although the comic books came before the cartoon, and were much darker). From reading that whole article, I come away with the impression that he's open to the idea, but not terribly excited about it. I think this is the most important line in the story:
It's possible that with enough truly creative brainpower applied to this idea, it might actually work. I'm not saying it's probable, or even somewhat likely… but it IS possible.
I agree with that statement. It is "possible". gatorclaws
I saw American Reunion on 3/20 (comes out 4/6). I thought it was funny and the humor was in the right parts. There are two cameos in it (and what I mean is, neither of them were in the prior movies). Mena Suvari looks really lousy as a blonde, I have no idea what she was thinking. What also made me laugh, which was a goof, was in two seperate scenes, "Oz" gets called by his real name. Stay through the credits.
We must have fairly different taste. It was funny in parts but really is a movie that doesn't need to exist. Kind of a waste of time even though I saw it free. ValleyBengal
For me, every movie until this comes out will be ho-hum: http://www.darktowermovies.com/20120314/warner-bros-to-back-dark-tower-movie/#more-540. Warner Bros to back The Dark Tower movie by Mike on March 14, 2012 in General News After several months lost in the wilderness we finally have another studio showing interest in adapting Stephen King’s post-apocalyptic Western; The Dark Tower. Mike Flemming is reporting that Warner Bros are in talks – in fact very close to closing a deal – with director Ron Howard and partners, to fund their adaptation of this epic fantasy. If you remember, Universal Pictures originally took up the option to back Howard on this hugely ambitious project with Akiva Goldsman writing the script for a full movie trilogy, plus a couple of TV series. But, last spring Universal put the whole thing on hold asking Goldsman to drastically cut the budget until two months later, in July 2011, Universal walked away after deciding they still couldn’t handle the cost of making such a project. That Warner has taken an interest in this shouldn’t be such a surprise when we recall that just a few months back Brian Grazer was interviewed by MTV News stating that the TV segment of the project would be taken up by critically acclaimed studio HBO (Game of Thrones, Band of Brothers). As HBO is a Warner Bros sister studio, this indeed bodes well for Dark Tower fans. Warner Bros themselves are no strangers to mega multi-part movies having backed projects such as Harry Potter and the Matrix, so they’re certainly going to have the willingness and resources to back something as grand as The Dark Tower. For now, everything that was in place previously is set to remain; Howard, Grazer and Goldsman, with Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) being brought in to co-write the TV series, and Javier Bardem in the lead role of Roland Deschain. A possible production start date is Q1 2013. It’s great to see a studio of Warner’s stature take an interest in the Dark Tower. With their recent big-budget movies and HBO’s quality track record I’m really getting excited by this news. This saga has been on-going for several years now; J.J.Abrams was first on the scene way back in 2007 when he famously bought the movie rights for $19, and yet each time we’ve been left disappointed. Still, summer is just around the corner and I’m getting lots of positive vibes, so I’m going to put my neck out and say I think this could be it; the Dark Tower will be a Warner Bros movie.
