Guest Bengal_Smoov
Mets and reliever Danny Graves agree to terms New York, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Mets have reportedly agreed to terms with relief pitcher Danny Graves on a one-year contract with a team option for 2006. Newsday reported Tuesday that Graves will receive the pro-rated minimum of $300,000 for 2005. The Mets can then exercise a $5 million option for the following year or buy out the option for $500,000. Graves was released by the Cincinnati Reds last week after the embattled closer struggled mightily on the hill. Graves then cleared waivers and became eligible to sign with any team. The right-handed Graves, who is the Reds' franchise leader in saves with 182, began to show frustration in his final days with Cincinnati. After allowing five runs and four hits in one-third of an inning against the Cleveland Indians on May 22, Graves made an obscene gesture toward the fans at Great American Ball Park. The Reds designated him for assignment the following day. For the year, Graves is 1-1 with a 7.36 earned run average and 10 saves. However, he allowed nine runs on 10 hits over his last three appearances, spanning 2 2/3 frames. Graves, 31, broke into the majors with Cleveland in 1996 before being acquired by the Reds during the 1997 campaign. For his career, the Vietnamese native is 41-43 with a 3.98 ERA.
The Mets are making some good moves, imo..Their new GM knows what he doing, Graves still has some stuff left and the Mets don't have a #1 closer. Graves has an opportunity to hlep them make the playoffs and bring some excitement to Shea and NYC. With the Yankees stinking up the BX, the Mets are suddenly the popular team in NYC, everybody loves a winner.

Hooky
Good for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get off to a hot start with fresh surroundings and a break. But in the long run, he'll be the same, inconsistent Danny Graves when the sinker stops sinking.
