Atlanta Wants to Trade WAY Up

Recommended Posts

With the talk of Atlanta wanting to trade up to get Green, what would you want to go from 4 down to 27?

According to the value chart, even if they gave us their entire draft it would not be enough (short by 600 points or so).

So, with current rules (player trades not allowed) what is the minimum you would take from Atlanta to do the deal, or would you not do it at all?

Arent trades allowed now that the judge ruled against the leagues request for a stay?

I thought I read that the players are being advised (don't know by whom) to shop their services. Could have sworn I saw that on the ESPN ticker but I could be mistaken.

Also, as for the thread topic......I would trade #4 for #27 if Atlanta's willing to give us their whole draft this year minus 6th and 7th Rd'ers and their 1st and 2nd next year.

I thought I read though, that Atlanta did not have a 2nd this year? If so, deal's off. Good day!

I would just offer them chad for a 3rd...their chances of moving all the way up to get green are slim to none.

I don't think trading players is an option at this point.

Seems like there might be more than ATL looking to trade up......if multiple teams want to go to 5 someone wants to go to 4!!

Cardinals hearing trade offers fro the No. 5 pick

The Cardinals have received trade offers for Thursday night’s fifth pick in the NFL Draft, and they expect to hear more.

"Some of them are just exploratory and some of them are serious," coach Ken Whisenhunt told the Arizona Republic. "There are a couple that you know are serious but there’s a couple that could get more serious as we get closer to it."

The Cardinals need a quarterback and may be in position to draft Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert with the fifth pick. However, will Gabbert be ready to make an impact as a rookie? The Cardinals might be better off acquiring a veteran quarterback later this offseason like Kevin Kolb of the Eagles, and using the fifth pick to draft a defensive player like Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller or LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson.

Or, the Cardinals could trade down from the fifth pick, get an extra pick later, and still acquire an impact player. Perhaps the Texans (11th pick), who need defensive help, would consider trading up to get Peterson.

There will be plenty of trade talk, but how many deals actually take place will be one of the major storylines of the draft. The Cardinals believe they are in a draft position that has leverage.

"There’s all kinds of scenarios that could happen," Whisenhunt said. "We’re certainly not ruling out moving in the draft."

So who exactly is picking 59th then? Everyone I know of with a 2rnd mock draft still has Atlanta taking that pick.

Texas Christian quarterback Andy Dalton could be in play tonight in the first round of the NFL draft, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation. The Cincinnati Bengals are one possibility for Dalton if they trade back out of the fourth overall pick.

Several NFL teams have projected Dalton as a first-round draft pick. Several general managers have privately compared Dalton to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and are of the belief that his arm strength will continue to improve once he's in the NFL.

The Minnesota Vikings are another quarterback-needy team that has shown a lot of interest in Dalton, who visited the NFC North club. Dalton also visited the Saints, Washington Redskins, Bengals, San Francisco 49ers and the Tennessee Titans.

He had 11 private workouts, including the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts.

"He had an unbelievable Pro Day, he played well in the all-star game and he did very well at the scouting combine," veteran former NFL assistant Jerry Rhome, Dalton's quarterback coach, told the National Football Post. "I know Andy can play. Andy is one of the sharpest quarterbacks I've been around and I coached Joe Theismann, Doug Williams and Troy Aikman. He's a very accurate passer.

"The knock on him is he's not the greatest athlete in the world. This kid ran a 4.8 and is 6-2, 215 pounds. He's really smart and he knows where to put the ball. He can move in the pocket, see down the field and put it where it has to go. There's a lot more to this game than just being big and strong. Andy is a winner."

Dalton completed 66.1 percent of his throws last season and passed for 27 touchdowns, leading TCU to a Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin for his third bowl game Most Valuable Player.

He owns every big passing record in school history.

Dalton went 42-7 as a starter.

He rushed for 1,611 career yards and 22 touchdowns.

A two-time Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Dalton finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy balloting last season.

He passed for 11,678 career yards.

"People say you don't have a strong arm or can't do something, it's just motivation to go out there and prove them wrong," Dalton said at the NFL scouting combine. "I understand the game really well. I think it's the way the offense was for me and TCU put a lot on me.

"I knew a lot, which allowed them to put a lot on me. Hopefully, they'll see that I'm a winner, I didn't lose very many ballgames. I can't stand to lose. All my hard work is to win ball games."

They only way I would be ok with that is if they trade down from 4 to, say, 8 or 10, pick up an extra 2 or 3 and use that to trade into the 28-33 range to take him.

I don't think they can trade down far enough from 4 to get value for him. I swear if this team takes Dalton before 25 I'll puke and start looking for a new team to root for.

I'd take their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and 2nd and 3rd from next year.
[/quote]

I would do it.

Either this or 1st & 2nd + 1st & 2nd. The one reason against going with that though is the remote possibility that the players lawyers succeed and push the NFL over the cliff with regards to free agency and the draft. Using the draft as leverage the way they are might result in no draft next year which would void that. So I'd prefer Scharm's option but would settle for my 2nd choice of 2x1st + 2x2nd.
