Tonight's draft festivities begin at 6 p.m. The Bengals have the third pick (35th overall) in the second round and the second pick (66th overall) in the third round. Teams will have seven minutes to make their selection in round 2 and five minutes to make a pick in rounds 3-7.

Bengals Needs

Quarterback: Will Andy Dalton be there when the Bengals go on the clock? Odds are 50/50 at best. The Bills need a quarterback and there's still a chance that someone will make a deal with the Patriots. It's no secret that Jay Gruden would love to have Dalton and he would be a great fit in the West Coast system. If the Bengals are to move ahead of the Bills and take Dalton at 33, a possible option would be this — the Patriots' second for the Bengals second this year and a third or fourth this year or next year. That is the only way they can be guaranteed of getting him. According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, they did try last night to swing a deal with Green Bay but were unable to agree to terms.

If Dalton isn't there, Mallett should be. While he is not as mobile as Dalton, he does have what some consider to be the best pro skill set. The biggest question though are if he is ready to lead a team judging by the large amount of red flags.

If it isn't Dalton or Mallett, it could be Nevada's Colin Kaepernick or Iowa's Ricky Stanzi. The Bengals had both quarterbacks on the North squad when they coached at the Senior Bowl. Kaepernick could go in the second round but is considered to be a project while Stanzi has been well schooled in a Pro Style offense at Iowa but was erratic at Senior Bowl practices and at the Scouting Combine.

Safety: Inexperience, a lack of depth and two free agents who have started a combined 44 games the past three seasons make this a bigger need. It is thought though to be a draft class lacking in depth. UCLA's Rahim Moore, Oklahoma's Quinton Carter, Clemson's DeAndre McDaniel, Cal's Chris Conte, Iowa's Tyler Sash, Florida's Ahmad Black and West Virginia's Robert Sands are worth keeping an eye on.

Offensive Line: With right guard Bobbie Williams entering the final year of his contract and concerns at right guard and tackle, head coach Marvin Lewis has made no secret that they will be looking for help. Among players to watch — OG/C Rodney Hudson (Florida State), OG/OT Will Rackley (Lehigh), OT/OG Miles Cannon (TCU), OG/OT Ben Ijalana (Villanova), OT/OG Orlando Franklin (Miami, Fl.), OT James Brewer (Indiana), OG/OT Clint Boling (Georgia).OT Marcus Gilbert (Florida), OT Jason Pinkston (Pitt), C/OG Kris O'Dowd and OG Steve Schilling (Michigan).

Defensive Line: Da'Quan Bowers is still available which makes everyone wonder if the knee injury is worse than everyone expected. Possible names to watch in the third round who are better fits in a 4-3 system – DT Pernell McPhee (Mississippi State), DE Pierre Allen (Nebraska), DT Terrell McClain (South Florida), DT Jurrell Casey (USC), DE Greg Romeus (Pitt).

before the first round yesterday Hobson tweeted that a new era in Bengals football was about to begin.

He's right.

Chad/Carson out, Green and Dalton/Mallett in.

Also gives me the impression that they've committed to trade Carson once they can, unless he has a change of heart.

If true, I wonder how many times the new QB will use the term "new Bengal era"? 'Cuz I remember Carson wore that one out when he was drafted... I'm sure, with some "coaching" from the Bengals.

adam schefter just said there's some division within cincinnati's ranks. the coaches like andy dalton, but mike brown likes ryan mallett. this could get interesting!
If Brown likes Mallett, then we better draft Dalton. I dont trust Brown's judgement on any player.

They like both. If both are on the board Dalton will be the pick.
