Donte Whitner agrees to a 2 year deal! Then he doesn't and signs with the $49ers

Recommended Posts

Donte Whitner was the 5th most prolific tackler in the entire NFL last year with 140 or so combined tackles. By comparison our most prolific tackler was Dhani Jones with 120 something. With Clements and Whitner we appear to be going after people not afraid to tackle and tackle alot.

It is odd that both Clements and Whitner were born in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland country), Ohio and went to Ohio State.

I honestly don't know for sure, but hasn't the Bills pass rush been about as crappy, if not worse, than the Bengals over the last few years?
It hasn't been great, and they've missed on some 1st round DLs of late, like Aaron Maybin from Penn St who was a total bust, and John McCargo.

The Bill safeties other than Whitner weren't all that - I mean, George Wilson is OK. But most teams want to lock up their core guys, and I never saw that with Whitner, which is a red flag. I think they were more interested in getting Puz back, but it didn't happen. And, they drafted S Aaron Williams from UT this year. Makes me wonder... A lot.

I hope you guys are right about these tOSU guys and not just being homers. I kind of want this dude now.

He was a stud in College. And he was the 8th overall pick in the 2006 draft

He hasn't been the play maker that you want for where he was drafted.

But he was a tackling machine for the Bills this past season . And he just turned 26 years old.

His twitter by the way.

More of a free or a strong safety? I suppose if he is stout at tackling he could play strong safety for sure. I'd like this move. I'm not sold on Crocker anymore and I think Sands might be a bit to tall to be effective at this level, especially shedding blocks.

He can't cover... so free.

Reggie Nelson is the FS.

I'm guessing you mean Strong. Nelson and Whitner are both 1st rounders so I like that. That would be a good S crew.

I love this guy, if he signs I would be overjoyed.

I'm getting pumped too, this would improve the F offseason to D+/C- for me.

He’s played strong safety, nickel cornerback, and free safety with the Bills.

And he had 7 passes defended for the Bills this past season.

Meh...you have some people on here thinking Carson palmer was the worst qb ever, and some thinking our oline was top 10. Lets be honest, fans over value and under value their own players a lot, when most the time the player is somewhere in between.
The trick to reading fan reviews is to look at the number of negative posts then look at the content. (for instance, ...Bluto is a good example for accuracy, ...a "gold" standard around here).

We need more solid D players in this FA because our D REALLY needs to step it up this season.

Yes, and a total of 18 over 5 years... With 66 starts.

I know it looked like he was productive last year, but I'm just not convinced he's an upgrade. His history of productivity has been unimpressive, IMO. The Bills had (reportedly) no intention of re-signing him, despite average talent at that position. Plus, they drafted a S as their 1st round pick this year.

I hope I'm wrong if he comes here. Just not jazzed about him, but I will rely on Zim and Coyle to work their magic if he's a Bengal.
