Occupy Wall Street

What the hell... people need to like Juco's more to get basics out of the way. Damn, I was in college a long time and my wife went all the way through Masters and we don't even have half of that. Texas public schools are awesome I guess.

The stupid schools don't help things any, they're just like "ok, as long as O'bama keeps give you more $$$, I will keep charging more". Bastards.

Let's sniper college chancellors too.

EDIT: Damn, I looked up Texas Tech's tuition also, it's crazy! I wish I could invest in public colleges. What a scam.

Yeah tuition costs are insane these days. I hope I can go to grad school without it making me poor.
On a personal note I really wouldn't recommend it unless the career end point on which you have your sight set demands it...

I need to go back and get my degree, but I'm going go get my company to pay for most of it. I am glad I did not end up going away to college looking back now.

I may not have had the "college experience", but I am also not insane debt like my 2 younger sisters are and neither of them makes the income you would expect with their levels of education.

The things I would get out of from an educational standpoint that would allow me to eventually move out of DC (or at least live in an area of it that doesnt have a commute that isnt over an hour) and have stability because of what I would have picked up in grad school that my undergrad didnt necessarily focus on demand it.

Dude, you're a developer. There are all sorts of places you can move to if you so desire; the sky is the limit, really.

Hell, I wish I could program worth a shit... :glare:

Jamie, do you know Java? I might have some leads for you. ;)
Nope .Net

And Flocco what I'm hinting at is that my degree was in web/graphics so it didnt cover OOD which was a mistake on not going the comp-sci route on my part. Getting the MS would be in Software Engineering and I'd be covering OOD getting it.

Fair enough (though still a roll of the dice).

You should learn Java though. If I could even get a simple calculator program to compile without using 8 GB of RAM I'd be living in Germany already...

And yes, as some countries protect their workers...

Man, O'bama should not allow public institutions to rape kids. They should cap tuition and fees. $2000 a year, that's enough to have a good crew of teachers. Maybe don't let every asshole that applies in?

Schools are gouging society, that's crazy, I want to do more murders now.

If those who like to profess free societies understood what Jefferson meant when he talked about a well educated populace being necessarily to that free society (society being the key word here) they would be in favor of the universities being subsidized.

Hell, I wouldn't hate it if they tailored or pegged tuition costs based on major and a percentage of their realistic maximum gross salary.

Major in Medieval Lithuanian Liturgical Folk Tales? Your maximum student debt load is $10,000.

Major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering? Your maximum student debt load is $60,000.

Or something like that...

Here in New Brunswick, if you go to UNB (a very good engineering school) I believe they cap total tuition at $25k, thank god.

The best movement was US and A wiping out the indians. With force. And muskets. And biowarfare. It was a crushing victory, that's how this should be handled.
For whats its worth biowarfare was an idea that was thought about but not really used, from what I gathered.

So who exactly has Wall Street demonized? All of the vitriol out there is about "fat cat" bankers and wall streeters.

A little reading will tell you that these people are just pissed off because they have less than some other people so those people must be inherently evil.

They advocate changing our financial system in favor of a system that redistributes wealth more evenly without regard to talent or work ethic. ie. socialism and even communism.

There are issues with our monetary system but forced confiscation and redistribution has NOTHING to do with freedom or fairness. Demonizing those that have more than we do is again cynical and damaging. It is also immoral.

This idea of wealth confiscation and redistribution came to fruition in another country about 100 years ago and resulted in one of the greatest political and humanitarian disasters in the modern world.
Do you think that someone who works on wall street is thus inherently talented and works hard?

I am all for any movement that is for upsetting the status quo... because, obviously, it isn't working.

My question is why is this Occupy Wall Street getting such a noble response, including folks in this very forum, while the Tea Party was routinely criticized? One is trying to bring an end to Wall Street fat cats, the other to HUGE government. I don't understand (well, actually I guess I do) why one is hailed, the other ridiculed.

Well for one the Wall Street movement isnt calling the President a marxist..socialist.. muslim..that wasnt born in america

Some of them arent calling him out for being owned by wall street (some are) either but they arent lying about him either.

Also I'm in complete disagreement with the tea parties ideals, where im only in disagreement with the socialist/Marxist/anarchist faction of this group.

Oh and I haven't seen any misspelled signs....at least not yet.

Our government is bought and paid for by Wall Street, and our government allows it... Wall Street is evil but our government isn't? Come on, they share in this equally. Again, I'm not saying stop supporting either cause but I think both have some merit.

You should perhaps read what I wrote on post #39 where I said we dont have an honest government right now.

Also simply saying that shrinking the size of government will fix the mess is false too. Ive stated time and again that the problem is with how our campaigns are financed.

In fact I have joined Dylan Ratigan's movement here...
